*Breathe Christina* This is it. Tomorrow morning I will have my surgery. It will be the first day of the rest of my life, a truly life changing event. It has been a long road, I have been to so many doctor visits preparing for this day to come. I have my bag ready, family notified, I am having a visit with a Pagan Minister for many Blessings so that I will have a safe and healthy journey tomorrow. Everything seems to be in order. I relaxed today, took it easy. Got a lot of rest. I am feeling calm now, but I know tomorrow morning I will be begging for a sedative! I've been repeating to myself "no hair clips, no makeup, no perfume, no nail polish. shower with antibacterial soap. don't shave my surgical site" (not that I would, but it's on the list) Ipod- Check! Friends notified- Check! Cell phone charger- Check! And of course makeup and shower essentials for the day after. *Sigh* Wish me luck, Blessed Be!

Hey everyone, I wanted to post a quick note. Im having my surgery on Monday, I have been on the liquid diet for almost 2 weeks. I just wanted to tell people who are on it or preparing for the liquid diet to be careful! I have never experienced anything quiet like this before. It is NOT fun in any way. Your stomach shrinks, you loose weight...but, you cant eat anything solid and that really sucks. like, i'm dying for a piece of toast! and you go to the bathroom a lot! whether you want to or not. yeah. this is not fun. (sometimes you need a little TMI)

I'm on the pre op diet as well, I am having such a difficult time. you can go to walmart and buy whey protein for about $20. however, whey protein isn't the easiest to digest. I personally have a hard time holding down whey. I knew that coming into this diet because I used to try various proteins when I went to the gym a lot. muscle tech is a good brand for whey but its more money than walmart's... I prefer soy protein, its so much easier to digest (especially for those who like me are lactose intolerant) my only problem with that is that at walmart I noticed a limited selection of soy proteins, all of which were high in sugar. so I had to settle for whey, unless I want to spend $20-30 online for soy.today is day 7 of my liquid diet and I noticed that today was the most difficult because I had to go out for my pre admin testing, I didn't make a protein shake before I went out and I tried to eat something before I left and for some reason my stomach was just not having it. i felt like i just couldn't drink anything. so stupid me didn't! ugh. by the end of my apt i was nauseous, dizzy i felt faint and weak...definitely don't skip your "meals" and drink lots of fluids. that was NOT fun at all!!!

my surgeon said (at a group/support meeting) that feeling odd sensations when drinking things that are too cold or too hot is common. your new stomach has to get used to everything again. but if you think it is a real concern, definitely talk to your surgeon/dr.!

Hey everyone, I'm new to the site but not new to the process. My surgery date is May 20th, 2013! Finally! I have had trouble finding a surgeon that would do the surgery on someone my age, I've actually been trying since I was 17. The first place I went too said that I should wait another 6 months and continue to see a nutritionist and try to lose the weight on my own (despite my own attempts) then 6 months later they told me to wait another 6 months! and then the same thing happened after that! they wanted to give me another 6 months then go for the surgery, so I decided to just stop going. I didn't want to be let down again. At that point I was 18 years old and 285 lbs at 5'3''! After another year of yo-yo dieting, getting down to 240 then up 10 lbs down 5, up 20 down 3... I decided to go for the surgery again at 20, first surgeon didn't want to do the surgery because of my age so then I went to another surgeon, one that my doctor recommended. And everything went great! and the whole process happened so quick, I saw him for the first time 3/22/13 and my surgery is now 5/20/13. I'm on day 2 of my liquid diet, not fun but I am very hopeful and excited! Did anyone else struggle to get to their surgery date? or gave up and decided to go back for it?

we are definitely on the same page then, I'm happy I can talk to people who are my own age about this bittersweet journey! haha. talking to anyone helps, but there's something more comforting about talking to people who are dealing with the same things you are dealing with and are closer in age.... you can relate more <3 -
aw thanks! I hope so, I'm trying. This whole liquid diet thing is a challenge. Are you required to do a liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op? if so, does it get easier? lol

I'm nervous about the excess skin as well, and losing what boobs I do have haha. I would be happy if I were a full C pre-op! nope, i'm all butt. I could wear a B, but wearing a C makes me feel better about myself -
I've had to visit 3 different surgeons because of my age, 2 of them didn't want to do the surgery but my doctor recommended that I see a surgeon that a lot of his patients go to in one of the suburbs north of Boston, MA. He is happy to do the surgery (my date is 5/20/13) and confident that this would be good for me and it works out because I don't have to go into Boston for every single dr. apt! (I've had at least 1 apt. every week since I saw him first) and he is a lot nicer than the other ones I've met. so, every surgeon is different. Some have an age preference, some don't. If you get denied, just go somewhere else. Don't give up!
