What happens at the pulmonary appointment?
HeroOfThisStory replied to PittGuy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh that's manageable. I saw on Google something about this machine you sit in and it tests your oxygen or something. I'm a little claustrophobic so I don't see that going well but I think I can manage to blow in a tube. -
My 6 month pre-op doesn't consist of any weight loss. Each month I'm given new "objectives" to start adjusting to. I'm only on my first month but I can't drink thirty minutes before or after meals, no straws and I have to chew each bite 30 times, which honestly, is impossible. Next month I think I have to start no caffeine but I'm not sure. Have to check my chart. Luckily I don't have to focus on weight loss immediately but I'm sure that's coming.

April 2013 Post-Op Group

The HydraCoach Intelligent Water Bottle is amazing. You program it and as you drink it counts your ounces and you set it to whatever ounce intake you need for the day. It's a bit pricey but I think it's well worth it! -

Also curious about the pulmonary testing, if that's what you are referring to. I am only in my first month of the 6 month pre-op diet but I am doing my psych exam in June/July then the PFT after. That's the only pre-op test I am not familiar with. -

Welcome! I'm 23 and am also in the process of getting gastric bypass! I'm about to start my second of six pre-op month diet. It's an exciting journey and this forum is amazing! Best of luck! -

I know how you feel! I thought I could do it on my own, yea, well, not happening. It's so hard and I finally had to come to terms that I need this and I need it now because I can't live the rest of my life this way. I don't know how and when I lost control of my weight but it happened and now I'm facing reality. I'm anxiously waiting for these 6 months to fly by so I can get surgery. At least I've made the decision to stick to it. Also, BCBS has a ton of different groups with different clauses. My friend has it and WLS isn't covered at all. My sister has it and hers didn't require any type of supervised diets. Just depends on what your employer purchases. -
It's an app you can log all your food and exercise.

Oh that does sound a bit scary. Good thing they told you all that up front so you do know what to expect if you decide to go through with it. Whatever choice you make will be the right choice for you. It's your body and you only get one! Best of luck in your decision!

Awesome! Gives me some hope! I'm healthy besides my weight so hoping I can have a dream recovery too!! -
Oh yay that's exciting! Keep us up to date!

I'd check with both insurances in case you do have to do 6 months that way you have a heads up on what to do if your secondary becomes primary during the process. Good luck!

Have you had any complication so far? -
-
Good luck! You should call your insurance to see what their guidelines are, they might ease your mind a little. I work for my insurance company so I know for sure I have to do 6 months supervised diet and psych eval regardless of my BMI, which is 49. Luckily I don't need a sleep study, that was my biggest fear.

How many months until you are 26?

I'm from Winchester. Work in Ashburn, surgeon in Herndon and surgery will be in Fair Oaks, assuming insurance approval. Just started 6 mo diet May 1st so tentative surgery date is December. Glad to hear good things about Fair Oaks. -

I started when I was 19 but didn't follow through. I wasn't as motivated as I am now. I work for my insurance company so I see the good and bad of getting it, or not getting it, so I'm more educated and determined than ever. Just started my 6 month diet May 1st but excited to share my struggles and triumphs on this forum. After extensive searching for people my age who are in my same situation I finally found it! -

This is also my second start. I started the process even I was 19 but I was so busy I only did my initial visit and never went back. I have a career and a fiancée, just wanting to be healthy to start a family one day! Decided it is now or never. So thankful I found an age group I can relate to! I'm 23 and my sister had it done 7 years ago but she's 40 now so it's hard to even relate to her. I only have one supportive friend, all my other friends tried to discourage me in my first attempt so I've cut them out of my lives. I'm the only one living in my body and I'm the one that gets the final say. I'm sick of the "oh just eat healthy and exercise" talk all my other friends want to give. Only my best friend, fiancée and family know my attempt this time and I've found out that is even more exciting!! -

In a perfect world my boobs would stay their exact size where everything else disappeared. A girl can dream... -
Hello ladies! I am 23 and decided to start this journey with my best friend. She found out it isn't covered by her insurance but I'm still going through with the process. It's nice to have this forum because I know she is devastated and I don't like to talk to her about it but I'm so excited I need someone who understands! I actually work for my insurance company which has me nervous/more excited at the same time! I started my 6 month diet May 1st and am just going to take it one month at a time. Hopefully I will have a surgery date around the beginning of December. It's so nice to finally find people my age going through the same things because Google results haven't been much luck for me. So excited for all of you and can't wait to see what the future holds for us!!

I started my journey April 19th. I had my initial visit then and started my 6 month supervision on May 1st. If all goes as planned I'm looking to have a December surgery. :-) We will be fairly close to each other! Best of luck to you!!!!
