  1. PJanes.... I started my pre-op diet on Monday. It's a low/cal-low fat diet which I supplement meals with the protein drinks. I am eating celery, carrots, non-fat cottage cheese....you probably know the drill. It really hasn't been that bad....I dreaded starting it! I also started using my YMCA membership and took on the tread mill. I have lost 7 pounds! We should try to stay in touch......have any ideas how?
  2. Aside from you starving how are you feeling? I'm somewhat nervous about the immediate days following surgery. I play sand volleyball and start bowling on Sept 8th. My doctor assures me I might have to sit out the first immediate week after surgery but I should have no problem bowling. (I do throw a really light ball)
  3. Made a tracker..........AND I actually posted it! woo hoo!
  4. Hey everyone! Thought I'd join all of you in the August banders! My surgery is 8/23!! I started my low/cal-low/fat and exercise routine and have lost 5lbs since Monday! My husband is doing this with me......hooray! It's not as difficult for me to cook for the kids when someone else is enjoying an evening of non-fat cottage cheese and carrots!
  5. Jack.....you're are a genius. I just copied your reply to Jen and e-mailed it to myself! I just might read it every day! Thank you!
  6. Thank you Jack, Holly, Hip and everyone else who has sprinkled their words of wisdom on this thread......I can relate to EVERY word that have been posted. I have decided which voice is the voice of fear for me( I have never liked that demon....why is it so stinkin loud?) I have been wrestling with self doubt...even so much as yesterday as I left my appt's with my surgercal nurse and dietician. I had to ask myself.......can I do this? ugh!
  7. Congrats Candle!!! My surgery date is 8/23/07! We'll be in a similar boat!
  8. okay.........wearing the cpap with glasses can be a challenge, I need them to watch tv as well. Being that you're a stomach sleeper doesn't help, but don't give up! It really will make a difference in your life! I had to change masks after about a month....I didn't even know I could do that. There were never any options given to me at the time that I was "fitted" for my machine. Perhaps you could try another mask? I can wear my glasses with my new mask (I've now had it for about 9 mos) Let the CPAP work for you......and perhaps after surgery you can say good bye to it forever!.....I'm hoping I can.

    Pre Op Diet

Thankfully yes :clap2:..........they are not requiring me to loose any paticular amount. I'm assuming it all has to do with the liver thing.

    Carbonation...

Reading that made me laugh out loud! And I promise I won't ask you how you know any of this Since the wedding is about 2mos after surgery I'm going to play it by ear....or stomach rather

    Carbonation...

Let me first apologize in advance for any stupid questions I may ask. I am new to this site and a pre-op patient. I have become addicted to all the great postings and have found myself reading them daily. I have been on a mission to collect as many opinions as possible. It's helpful to be able to hear how different things affect different people....so thank you to all that have posted! I wanted ask people what their experiences and thoughts were on carbonation.....I have an ulterior motive as I am attending a wedding in Napa Valley at the end of October and have a passion for the bubbley! My surgery date is Aug 23..... My dietician, of course, says no way no how should anyone be drinking anything carbonated.....which I am fine with, but I was hoping someone could throw me a bone! :help:

    Carbonation...

I agree that taste does go along way! It will be interesting to see how my tastes change. Perhaps I will no longer enjoy champagne at all.......oh now that thought makes me a little sad...lol

    Carbonation...

Thank you for your response and tips on the advance search area..... I was hoping not to be blowing out here in the wind without any responses!!! I may have found the search area.....someday! As far as the sparkling wine was concerned...... I was speaking of champagne....I have a bottle from "that region" in my fridge as we speak. The ring bearer and his family are coming in for the wedding from France.....and the bride and groom met in Paris. So most likely we will be drinking the "real" thing! Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed very fine sparkling wines...but I my personal fave is a champagne! Cheers!

    Your Favorite Protiens?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this thread!!! I am pre-op (surgery is Aug 23) and I just stumbled across this thread. I asked the same question elsewhere and got nothing Stupid me....probably needed to ask a question about food in a FOOD THREAD!! I am NOT looking forward to my 2 wks of liquid.....but am willing. I was really curious as to any semi-tasty protein drinks. The one I tried at my doctor's office was blaaagh! Of course they want me to purchase everything from them. Thanks for sharing some other options!

    Pre Op Diet

My doctor requires a 2 wk liquid diet post-op :speechles Frankly, I do not look forward to doing it. I know I can, I did it before years ago (many many years ago) But I still am dreading it! My husband has volunteered to do it with me as he as about 30 lbs to lose (poor little thing) I don't think he has a clue as to what he is getting himself into! But I do think it's nice that he's willing to go the extra mile with me!
  19. Candle.....Don't sweat the paperwork........I had to stay on top of both my insurance company and my doctor's office. I kept notes of everyone I talked to, what they said and the date of our conversation. Took me a few weeks to realize I should have heard SOMETHING! Once I started making calls it was AMAZING how fast I had a result. (mine was positive, surgery is scheduled for Aug 23) The fact you have a surgery date could be positive.....your doctor must feel confident about it? About the cpap.....why not wear it? I have one and wanted to encourage you to try to get iyours on. It isn't the funnest thing I've ever worn, but it sure does make a difference in my moods & engery level. I thought I was depressed for the last 5 yrs....found out I just wasn't getting any REM sleep and it was killing me.

    Why are YOU Fat?

Jack.........I am new to this site and a pre-op patient who is eagerly taking in as much information as possible. I just want you to know how much I have enjoyed reading your posts! I love your quirky sense of humor....keep up the good work!
  21. Hi mermaidpuppy! I also have a surgery date of Aug. 23! I have a wedding to attend in Napa Valley and had concerns of alcohol comsumption as well. Especially my favorite.......champagne. The dietician that I have seen recommends that I NEVER consume ANYTHING carbonated......so my heart is heavy that I will miss our pizza and champagne nights! Being that our surgeries are scheduled the same day....would you be interested in keeping in contact? ~Best of luck to you!

    A scarey feeling

Hey Sue.........how far are you into the process? I am just completing jumping through all the hoops and waiting for my surgery date (Aug 23)
  23. I am also waiting for a date.......I've picked one, just waiting for the surgeon to comfirm. (Aug 24) As far as telling and not telling? I chose to reveal to certain people at different stages. I haven't told everyone as of yet and I have had mixed reviews.:rolleyes Most have been positive.
