Anyone self funding in the U.S. ?
tracik replied to Dub's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was self pay in US. Paid 26k as a package price at Cleveland Clinic in 2013. That included preop visits, surgery, 3 day hospital stay and post op visits. Now annual visits are covered under regular insurance. I was self pay only because my insurance didn't cover any weight related surgeries. -

Is dumping syndrome forever?
tracik replied to sarahbethemails's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am 2.5 years out. I avoid sweets, ice cream, cakes. I can eat a very small amount of sugar free items but too much and I will be sick. I also have avoided all deep fried items as my doc said that would be a problem. Just eat a few bites and then stop and see if you are ok after 10-15 minutes. That works for me. But don't fret over it. You will figure it out. -

I had vertigo something fierce for the first 6 months after my surgery. My doctor told me that is somewhat common but no reason not to check with your own doc. -

my only true concern- surgery in less than a week
tracik replied to HYCIERRA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am 1 year 2 months out. I am 7 pounds from goal and when I hit I will have lost 150# and 100% of my excess weight. I have loose skin everywhere. My arms are what I am concerned with and only because they aren't in proportion to the rest of me. I will have them done at some point. The rest I can cover with clothing. I don't plan on becoming a model or planning to show large parts of my body. But I would like to be able to wear sleeveless shirts when it is 90 degrees. Right now I won't do it. Excess skin for most of us is a fact of life. But the positives of this surgery far outweigh a little baggy skin. For me it is worth being healthy and happier! -
Three weeks ago, almost exactly one year my from RNY I developed kidney stones on both sides. Long story short, it required two ER visits, a hospital stay, and two surgeries later, but I am on the mend. But something happened while in the hospital I couldn't believe. Once I had my surgery, they handed me a menu and said here you go, order whatever you want. No restrictions. What? I had never been in the hospital except for my RNY, but visited countless people that had some sort of restriction, or another. But I could order whatever I wanted? Of course, I had to kill the mood and remind them that I can't have sugar and don't eat too many carbs, but that was my choice and I could have ordered all the ice cream I wanted. But I was good, I wouldn't have been able to eat it anyway without dumping...but to think I was normal weight in one year and could get anything I wanted. I so love that I had this surgery!

18 years ago my ring was a size 9. 10 years ago lost weight and resized to 7.5. Then a few years ago resized back up to 8.75. A few months ago took it down to a 6 and thought it would be good. It fell off my hand last night, guess one more sizing is in order!

I have always had large calves due to playing sports in high school. They were muscular and well shaped. I had RNY a year ago, down 141# and while my calves are a lot smaller, they are still large compared to some others at my current weight. But they still have muscle, so I don't mind. As my mom says, those little thumpers still need to get you from here to there... So I am ok with a slightly larger calf. But you most certainly will lose a good majority of them!

I had RNY I May of 2013. Weighed 300# on day of surgery. Was a mild diabetic, high cholesterol, blood pressure and knee and hip pains. Today, I am at 159, 9# from my goal with no diabetes, regular blood pressure and cholesterol and I can walk miles with no pain. I am 45 this year and I still believe it wasn't right for me up until last year even though I struggled my entire life. I haven't had sweets in over year, fried foods either. I don't miss them and probably could eat them in moderation, but why. You have to follow the doctors orders. But it was for me the best decision I have ever made. Good luck. My surgeon was very clear this is what I needed and I believe I owe him my life. -
Wednesday is my 1 year surgiversary! Can't believe it has been a year. I started this journey at 300# and today weighed 164#, down 136. My doctors goal was 193, so I am well ahead of that, but I wanted to get to 150. But, I have sat at 164/65 for the past 3 months, so maybe I am done. Which I am ok with. I love my new life. I started training for a 5K. Walking every day now that the weather is nice in OH. I am doing better with Protein and calories. Sometimes I am afraid I eat too much. But some days I seem so hungry. People comment that they are surprised I eat that much, which is about 1/2 cup of food, only because for 9 months I was only eating 2-3 bites! I went shopping yesterday at the Loft, Ann Taylor and Chicos. Got a new wardrobe to Celebrate my 1 year. All size 10/12. Yea! Hope all the May people are doing well. Updates!!!

Hi everyone... Surgery date was 5/28. I am down 122#. Just looked and have been stuck at this weight since 2/11. Frustrating! I have 23 pounds to go. I still struggle to get protein and calories in every day. About 45-55 grams of protein and about 1000 calories is all I can do. But I found this new Greek yogurt called Yopa. It has 18g of protein and doesn't taste like Greek yogurt which is great for me. I am hoping that will kick start the weight loss again. The weather is finally getting better so I will be able to start walking again. I haven't been exercising which I know isn't helping my weight loss, but I have 0 energy...I am sure because of the protein....so I have it all figured out in my head...but I am hoping something here gives so I can start losing again! Look for Yopa at the store if you aren't a fan of regular Greek yogurts...this stuff is really tasty! Have a great day everyone!

My surgery was May 28. I am down 121 pounds. I have 29 more to go to hit my goal. I am in a size 12 now. Still tempted to buy bigger. I hold up the clothes and think there is no way that will fit...then it does. Still surreal. One thing that does bother me though. When I first had my surgery of course I was eating just a few bites at a time. Now I can order a meal out and not feel guilty because I eat about 1/3 of it or so. But I have people say to me, wow you sure ate a lot, or I didn't think you would eat that much. It is so irritating! First, why are you watching what I am eating and 2) I am still only eating a tiny portion compared to what I used to eat...or what you are eating for that matter.... Ugh. I just started saying, yea I know...but then I am surprised too at how much you eat....that usually shuts them up. Guess that is a small price to pay when you get to finally live a normal life... Hope you all are doing great!

You look amazing!!! I am down 114#. Still struggling to get enough Protein. Eat only about 800 calories a day. Nut says I should try to her 1200. Not happening anytime soon! But I am so happy. Almost 2 sizes down in shoes and from 24 to 12-14 depending on the brand. Weight loss almost stopped now. But I am confident I will start losing again!! Keep up the great work!

I am here also. Surgery 5/28. Hit 100# today. 7# to go for dr. Goal. 47 for mine. Best thing I ever did. Glad to hear how great everyone is doing. Hopefully tomorrow I hit Onderland!

Hi all. How is everyone doing these days? Tomorrow will be 5 months for me. Still hard to believe. I am down 93#. The weight is extremely slow now to lose. About 1-2 pounds a week. Have 14 pounds to go to hit my doctors goal. But about 34 to hit my personal goal. Wearing size 14-16 pants now. Still discouraged sometimes when I go shopping. But I know slow will win this race. Strange about food. I haven't eaten anything sweet or fried since surgery. Dumped a few times and not pleasant, so I am staying away. But there are some days I eat just one bite and can't even think about eating anything else. Weird. My doctor is working with me on low potassium and urinary issues, but other than that I feel wonderful. Not exercising as much as I should but I try to walk 2 miles a day at a minimum. How are the rest of you May group doing lately?

Lol. I love it!

I had my surgery May 28. Down 85#. Only 15# from my doctors goal. It has been amazing. People keep telling me that I am so thin, I don't quite see all of that yet. But this morning I went swimming and was sitting on the step of the pool just moving my legs around and the excess skin was amazing. I didn't think I had too much. But watching it move in the water made realize more than I thought. Don't think I will be able to not get away without a thigh job, but it is pretty amazing to see how small my legs really are and what they might look like without the excess skin!

. You go girl! That is awesome! My surgery was 5/28 and I just hit 90#!!!

I had my surgery on May 28. Today I hit 83 pounds gone. I am 18 pounds away from onderland. I haven't been at this weight since I was a sophomore in high school. Still only getting about 600 calories/day. And maybe 40g of protein. But I am working with my nutritionist to get those numbers up. I feel amazing and going shopping for the 3rd set of new clothes! Amazing! So glad to see everyone's progress. I am so thankful I made this decision. I love the person I am becoming.

That is funny. U went to watch my nieces volleyball game and my butt got so sore after 2 games. I used to make it through 5 games with no problem.

I was able to fulfill one wish. For years I have always wanted a Victoria Secret bra. They are just so beautiful. I ordered one a few weeks ago and it fit like it was made just for me! I have since ordered 5 more! Love it!
