I am 10 days out and down 17 pounds! Just today go my taste buds back, so stuff tastes the way it is supposed to! Cleared for soft foods so I am heading out for groceries in the am. My mom has been so kind to cook for my husband in addition to her family for the past month so I didn't have to cook or smell food, but I am ready to get back into the kitchen, even though can only eat a bite or two. Will be good to get back to the routine!

I met with my surgeon today for one week follow up. He is happy with progress. Down 9 pounds since lowest prior to surgery last week. I had advanced to pureed foods earlier this week as I couldn't do shakes anymore. He was fine with that and told me to start soft foods this weekend. Yea! He told me the numbness in my right thigh happens 4 or 5 times a year (lucky me, I guess). It is how they position you on the table and how they strap you down. He told me I can step up exercise as long as it doesn't hurt and released me to drive. On my way! I was also reading a menu they had on the desk for the final phase, and it included whole wheat bread, which surprised me. But then I remember the nut telling me about eating those thin bagel things and she said that would be fine for lunch. I see so many people that don't eat breads and I wonder if that is by choice or if each doctor is really that different. They want me to start with chicken and fish next week, so I am starting to look for recipes!

Anyone having any issues of numbness in legs after surgery? My right leg has been numb for a week since my surgery.

I wish I was doing as well. Where to start. I am really starting to regret doing this to myself. The pain on my right side is unbearable. If I sit in my big recliner, I am ok. But getting up, walking and trying to sit down is killer. TMI I know, but I cannot wipe myself after I go to the bathroom because the pain is so deep. I can't tell if I am full or hungry. I eat one bite of something then I wait a few minutes. The on,y thing that doesn't make me nausea is chocolate slim fast shakes, which have only 10g of protein. I am not getting enough fluids in. I used to say no problem with fluids because I absolutely love water. After surgery, I can't stand the taste. Speaking of taste, I have this awful taste in my mouth that doesn't go away. I am walking about 3/4 mile a day. But it is very slow and I have to hold my right side very tight so I can just breath and walk. I have every kind of protein powder you can think of and they all taste nasty to me. I tried making one with Greek yogurt this morning and almost threw up. I meet with my doctor on Thursday. My surgery was last Tuesday. I am allergic to Vicodin and Percocet, so they gave me Tramadol, which is a joke. My dog actually takes a bigger dose then they prescribed for me. I am trying Tylenol tomorrow. Just miserable... I have lost 7 pounds in 5 days, but at what cost?

I tried jello at the hospital, did not sit well. I just tried some applesauce. Was only able to get down 1 tablespoon.

Ha, yes that ride was I am sure funny for others to watch. The poor guy that escorted me out was very nice but it took me three attempts to get into the car, finally my husband put the top down and I was able to get in and slide down the back of the seat. I am good walking, standing and even laying down, just getting up and down is torture. Yesterday was better, hope today is even better. Today I am tooting along as my dad would say, relieving the gas pains. I tried a little pudding yesterday with protein powder, very heavy. So I tried applesauce, was able to stomach about 1 tablespoon. Just not hungry. It is a chore to make myself think about eating. How about you, what are you trying to eat? Anything more successful?

My biggest issue now is not being able to get up and down easily. I still require someone to help pull me up. I have one incision that was sutured to a fat fold that is killing me. Drain hole has all but stopped leaking. I am having issues with anything going down, everything just tastes strange. I am trying a different protein shake today to try to get close to the protein counts. Regarding gas, it is still in there and the more I walk the better I feel, but I tire out real easy. I am just 1 day home from hospital, take care and keep sipping and walking!

Hi. Had my surgery on Tuesday, got home last night about 6. I actually gained 13 pounds while there! Gas I assume. I does help to walk but you get tired easily so don't walk too far. They pulled the drain tube before I left. The pain on that side is the worst. It just me 30 mi to walk from my chair in the living around the corner to the toilet and back. Most of the tie is trying to get up and down again. Not at all hungry. Ate two bites of SF pudding, and was full. Almost 1/3 down with water. Wish I could just chug that thing! Does anyone one incision that hurts worse than the others? Procedure done lapriscoply.

So glad it went well. I told the nurse yesterday it feels I had a torturous ab workout! Night wasn't good here either. Respiratory therapy didn't know how to work a combo CPAP /APAP and set the pressure for 16, needed to be at 4! Big difference. They came to fix it at 2 am. Hospitals certainly aren't for resting! Take care and best wishes to all going in for surgery today!

Surgery at 7 am this morning. In my room with pain med button. Actually pain just starting to get a little rough. Already been on a walk and sat in chair for an hour. This really isn't as bad as I thought. Although guess it could get worse! Anyway, doing good here. Biggest thing I wasn't prepared for was not being able to drink anything and my mouth and throat are so dry. There are times I have to stop talking as my tough wont work because it is too dry. Can swab down but that literally lasts about 30 seconds. Wishing all the best to Wednesdays surgeries. I will pray for you all.

Think I need to get a move on it. Zero energy today with killer headache. Surgery is tomorrow. Have to be there at 530. First one of the day! I know what I want to pack, just need to pack it. Took a nap as I know I won't be sleeping tonight. Will get up at 3:00, drop puppy off at 4, hospital by 5:15. Good luck to all of us this week. See you guys on the other side. (Aka tknechtges)

I just finished day 12; now doing two day all clear. As of yesterday I had lost 14 #. So excited! I have read many places though that you gain weight in hospital. Is that all the air they fill you up with? -
Question...I have never stayed in the hospital before...do I take my own meds or will the hospital supply. Thanks

Thank you. I will take all the prayers I can get. And same to you. I will follow June surgeries through my recovery.

Hey everyone. Congrats on making this journey. My surgery is in 2 days, Tuesday. I start an all clear liquid diet tomorrow. I saw this post and wanted to say to go for it. I thought of all the things I wanted to eat but ran out of time as I found out about surgery a few days before I started the liquid diet. Now, today, when I can't eat any of those things it is all I can think of and it is driving me crazy. So enjoy without going crazy. My biggest regret was pizza. I understand you cant eat it after WLS. But, then my mom always says, what is the big deal, it is just poop. Gotta love moms. Good luck everyone. Stay positive and strong. And, I will see you all on the other side during June!

Question. I had preop appointment today. I got prescriptions for gallstones and Pepcid. Am I supposed to take these before the surgery or after? I forgot to ask today. I will call tomorrow, but was just curious. Thanks

Hi. I am having RNY next Tuesday. My insurance company has a specific clause disallowing all WLS. I am self paying 26k out of pocket for this surgery. However, I am getting EOBs from earlier visits for nutrition, lab tests, psych eval that have all been submitted through my insurance company and they are paying those charges! They didn't pay for surgeons visit, but basically everything else. Now, on Thursday, I have to pay my 26k. But they have already been paid for items included in the flat fee. When I asked at the clinic, the lady said, oh well they weren't supposed to charge that through, you are self pay. Duh... I know that. S I told her that her office did. She said it didn't matter. After the procedure they sit down and go through all my charges and if the insurance company paid anything, they will be refunded. I don't believe them. I think they will pocket my money and what the insurance company pays. Anyone ever seen a review post surgery of your account? Has anyone ever bought Bliss insurance and needed it? Thanks. BTW, this is Cleveland Clinic.
