I think I may have the record for slowest weight loss of all time. My surgery date was 3/25/13. Since then I have lost 12 lbs. before surgery I lost 39 lbs, 9 of those on the 2 week pre-surgery diet. Have spoken with Bariatric program mgr, nutritionist, surgeon's head RN and followed up with his PA. They all say it is a combination of my age, 57, and being post-menopausal. Has any one else stalled like this right out of the gate and does any one have any suggestions on how to ramp things up?

Curious questions about Meds
susieg55 replied to elli'smommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor recommended Flintstones Complete 1 in am and 1 in pm. Remember to put 2 hrs between your calcium citrate (chewable). and ALL other meds/supplements as it can interfere with their efficacy. Good luck! -
My nutritionist advises using milk for the extra protein. Regular fat free is fine unless you are lactose intolerant, then you can use lactose free/fat free milk. I have used the new EAS that has 26 grams of protein. I like the chocolate. Get it at Target. Also unjury (only available online) at Unjury.com. They have a flavourless that works well with Crystal Light and a chicken Soup that is delicious along with the usual choc, van & strwbry. You can also, for a change, mix (all but chicken soup) any of the above with coffee (docs prefer caffeine free). Just be sure to let the liquids that are hot, cool to recommended temps (140 or below) or it will make the Protein powder clump up. Good luck.

Honestly, I was prepared for lots of negative comments. Luckily, I only had one person tell me that thought I should try other avenues first and it was more out of concern than criticism. I went in prepared, mentally AND physically. I did my research homework and made it clear that ALL of my healthcare team were in favor of me having the surgery. I only waited as long as I did because I didn't have insurance to cover it and couldn't afford it without. I did my due diligence and was totally satisfied I had made the appropriate decision for me and pretty much made that known in no uncertain terms. Since you have done that don't let the naysayers get you down. They will always be there ready to pounce. Some people have nothing better to do. Be proud of your decision to take control of your health and ROCK IT!!

Oddly enough, the one thing I had not heard about in advance were stomach noises. It just never came up. Since I have been post surgery, however, mine has done far more than growl in hunger, in fact, that is the one noise it hasn't made. I think it is probably louder to us than others but I hear mine even when I don't feel anything happening. It prompted me to name my pouch, Bubbles.
