Hey, guys, I'm 3 mos out and I was wondering if I could have a little bit of honey. I wanted to make honey lemon tea for my sore throat. If not is there anything else I can have that's comparable? I like honey for it's medicinal properties as well. My stomach doesn't seem to be as sensitive as most, even if I do eat sugary foods, and I've never gotten dumping syndrome.

Hey guys! I'm 3 months post surgery and I was wondering about some of your specific meals plans from your doctors. Especially what foods you can and can't eat in this phase, and how much per meal, but also when you're allowed to eat different foods, which foods, how much, etc. Thanks!

What ya eating tonight?
wannaBme replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The physician's group where I had my surgery had all their patients on a low carb diet. 70% protein and 30% veggies per meal (it's supposed to be a 2 oz meal, but my pouch has never worked for me so I'm trying to keep my meals to 6oz per meal...). We're not supposed to have more than 10g carbs per meal and no more than 20g carbs per day. They say this us necessary during the weight loss phase to keep us in ketosis. It doesn't seem to matter how much fat, we have per day. Anyone else on a similar diet? If not what are your specific diets? And does anyone know how to tell if you're in ketosis at this point without buying the strips? I'm past the point of having a metallic taste in my mouth, bad breath, and no appetite Ect...Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm having a really hard time with this and even at 3 months out, I still regret having the surgery every day. My body just isn't seeming to work that way everybody else's does. I can eat way more than 2 ounces per meal, I can gulp my water, drink through a straw, and I never get dumping syndrome even after I binged about a month and a half ago and ate 8 regular cookies in one sitting. I posted about this awhile ago, and I got some great advice, but I'm still having such a hard time. I see my doctor this Monday, and I'm terrified that he'll just blow all my concerns off, or tell me that its head hunger, or whatever. Sorry this is so long.... I just really need some help and support. Thanks -

Hey all, My doctor puts all his patients on a strict diet for the first year post op. The diet is 70 percent Protein and 30 percent vegetables in a 2 oz "meal" three times a day. (Protein can include low carb dairy products.) We are not supposed to eat more than 20 grams of carbs per day. I am 8 weeks out, and I am constantly feeling really hungry. I found that I can eat way more than 2 ounces in one setting, without getting sick...I can eat 7 to almost 9 oz...I called my doctor's office and they suggested taking 20 minutes to eat my 2 oz meal so that I'd feel full that if I was in the day I could have two 1 oz protein snacks! They also cautioned me about eating so much; they said I could stretch out my pouch. But none of this has worked! Also I lost 35 pounds my first 3 weeks, and 5 pounds my fourth week. Since then, however I haven't lost a single pound. I feel so frustrated and depressed! I did pretty well on my diet for the first 7 weeks, but for the last few days I've been binging on Oreo Cookies. I really feel like giving up...I feel so unhappy following the stupid diet and not losing another lb! At least while I'm eating cookies I feel temporary happy. I know that is .messed up thinking, but I don't know what to do. This situation has even affectied my marriage. my husband had RNY 3 months ago and he's doing great! I know everybody's different, but I find myself feeling so jealousy and resentment towards him. I don't know what to do.I know if I keep eating like this I'm going to gain weight, I'll be really depressed. I'm not willing to sacrifice my marriage either. Has anybody had a similar situation? What can I do? I'm sorry this post is so long but I really need some help! -

Me too! My boobs, were never great, but at least they didn't lay flat on my chest! after losing only 40 pounds, I went from a 44 D to a 38 C, and a freaking sagging "C"at that! I can't stand to even look at them myself anymore, let alone allow my husband! anyone think my insurance will cover that surgery?!

I totally hear you! I used to have the biggest thing for homemade hamburgers, but now I really love homemade turkey burgers (minus the bun of course! ) I just buy the ground turkey and make the turkey burgers myself...I find it's much more tasty than the premade patties, and I can season it the way I like it. Then I add a small slice the cheese and tomato, and I'm good to go!

Pinterest has a lot of cool recipes. You can search bariatric recipes or weight loss surgery recipes. We made a pizza with a cauliflower crust, and apparently you can make mashed cauliflower that is said to taste just like mashed potatoes. just be sure to read over the recipes carefully, and make sure to follow the guidelines on the diet your specific doctor gives you. I've been finding out that they're not all the same. Also, my doctor's office told me we can have sugar free pudding occasionally.

Hi guys...I had my gastric bypass surgery 10 days ago, and I am having such a hard time! There isn't a day that's gone by that I don't regret this! Having the surgery was the worst decision I've ever made! I am mortified about what I've done to my body, how I feel physically, emotionally, everything. I feel so alone and so lost and so hopeless...this stupid surgery has taken everything from me! I've struggled with depression before, but now I feel like I have nothing to live for... Btw, I'm going to call my doctor in the morning, but what can he do? It's not like he can reverse it... Did any of you guys go through this? I feel so alone.... :-(

I really feel your pain, and 3 weeks ago, I wouldn't have been able to believe I'd be saying this, but it does get better! For me that early on, each day was better than the last. I know it's a cliche (and a song!), but what doesn't kill us can make us stronger if we let it! And all of us were on a path toward death before we had our surgeries...I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is a very courageous and heroic choice for all of us, myself included! We're the lucky ones...at least we were able to fund it and at least we had the courage to do this! I don't even want to think about the statistics of all the people who die every day due to obesity related diseases because they can't or won't get the help to take care of it....it's tragic! Other people seem to think that WLS is the easy way out, but we all know it's not! I commend you for your courage and your assertiveness to do this! After time, you'll get more used to what you can and can't eat, portion sizes, etc...and dumping syndrome hopefully will not be as bad. (I still measure all my food though, and that really helps! Also, I use DoTerra oils DigestZen and Melaleuca topically and it really helps me recover quickly from the pain and nausea of dumping syndrome. I hope this helps you...hang in there, and make sure you have lots of support; here and with WLS groups in your area. It will get better! -
You look great! How far are you out post surgery? I am really encouraged seeing your results! Thanks for sharing!

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't replied yet....I haven't had a chance to go on this for a while, but after reading all your kind and encouraging words, I am going to make time! I am almost 5 weeks out now, and I Zen adjusting better, although right now I'm sitting outside Denny's at 1:30 in the morning waiting for my simple and fit omelet...my husband and I are going to portion it out and share it. I know I shouldn't...but I find myself having a lot of head hunger, and it's frustrating! Anyway, I think you guys are just great! Thank you for all your kindness, encouragement, and support! I hope I can help others through this too! -
Me, lol! See my previous msg...I didn't see yours!

Hi all....I have read many of you talking about a pre surgery diet. My Dr/nutritionist didn't give me a specific pre surgery diet, and my surgery is in 4 days. My husband had the surgery 3 weeks ago and he wasn't given a specific pre surgery diet either. The nutritionist did give us some "guidelines" like cutting out caffeine and carbonation, 3 small meals a day, using a smaller plate, chewing slowly and thoroughly, etc...Did any of you not have a pre surgery diet? What were your recommendations?

Thank you, Elle! How are you doing?

Are you familiar with DoTERRA essential oils? I've seen some testimonials from women saying applying grapefruit oil and DoTerra's slim and sassy metabolic blend topically to areas with flabby skin can help. Oregano oil, lavender, frankincense, and myrrh to these and stretch marks and cellulite are said to help too. I don't have the website I read this on right now, but I can get it. I haven't tried these oils for WLS related skin conditions; my surgery is on June 25th; but I recently started using DoTerra oils for other things, and I am hooked. I don't like Water and their grapefruit oil makes it taste delicious! (I tried regular grapefruit juice in my water and it was gross!) Btw...I AM NOT getting paid for these comments, lol. Just passing on some friendly advice that I hope will be helpful. I'm know I'm gonna use it for sure!
