April 2013 Post-Op Group

Probably. If is starts to ooze, I would at least maybe call the dr exchange. I was instructed to NOT put antibiotic cream or anything on mine but to call with redness, tenderness or oozing. 3 of my 4 incisions healed almost immediately. I still have one that is not quite healed but I have been making sure to keep it clean. I think it is healing slower because it is right under my right breast and even with a bra on, was not getting a whole lot of air to it. -
I too gained in the hospital, 7 stinking lbs. But when I went for my one week check up I lost that 7 plus 5 more. So I was actually only 5 less than my day of surgery weight. Still being 3 weeks 4 days out today, I am only down another 10 lbs. Seems to me to be slow. But they say slow and steady wins the race. And I will win this time!!!!!

I wanna know stories!

i first checked into the surgery at a seminar on Jan 17th. I had completed and returned my paperwork prior to the seminar so the very next day they called me and scheduled my nurse, pshych, and nutritionist visit for the next week. The week after that I had my one on one with the doctor himself. They called me to schedule an upper endoscopy within a week. My paperwork was being sent to insurance for approval. Once I got my approval a couple weeks later, I got a call to get my pre-op testing done and attend a 3 hour class. My dr office was very informative and there was no way you would not know exactly what you were getting into after all the classes and info they give. The soonest date they had available was 4/2. So from start to finish, it was a total of 2.5 months, less than 3 months. I know some insurance companies require you to do a 3 or 6 month diet prior to approval. My insurance did not have any prerequisites (YAY) I went into the OR around 9:30-10:00AM and I did not get into my regular room til around 3ish pm. Mine was done with the DaVinci robot and dr said it does take a little longer because there is a lot of setup involved. Then I was in recovery for almost 2 hours I believe. I had the ON-Q pain pump so I actually had very little discomfort in my belly. I was able to keep the pain pump in and just had to pull the tiny catheters out once the medicine was gone several days after I was home. It was AWESOME. It keeps your belly numb so that you don't have so much pain that you can get up and walk around right away. If you have the option of getting the ON-Q, I would highly recommend it. -

Interesting!!! My Fibromyalgia makes me super sensitive to smells. I have a hard time getting by the smell of my protein drinks to get them to my mouth. And when I walk in my parents house, my moms perfume almost gives me an instant headache. -

That looks painful. My dr used a glue and no sutures or staples. Glue just wore off after a week or so. With that redness, I would definitely keep on eye on it. -

I I have not tried the chicken soup. I need to get some. I know if I could get more protein in, I would feel much better and not so exhausted. -
OhYeah! Nutritional Shakes
kjrny2013 replied to Foranewme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been wanting to try them, but do not know where to purchase them. I bought about 6 different ones before my surgery and I can not hardly drink any of them. They all gag me now. -

My surgery was laparoscopic with 4 incisions on April 2nd. 3 of them were completely healed in less than 2 weeks but I still have one that is not healed. Must have been the main one, it seems a tad bigger than the others. Little reddish around the edges but seems to be getting smaller and more healed each day. I am having a hard time getting in my 60g of protein, so that could be why it is healing slowly I guess.
