I am a married mother of 3 children. Granted my oldest is 23, married and has an 18 month old baby girl that I love more than anything. I have battled my weight off and on my whole life. I was able to get it under control about 20 years ago, but is slowly kept creeping back on. I had 2 c-sections and several other surgeries from 2006 to 2011. It was harder to lose after each one and just got to where I felt like that was just going to be me for the rest of my life. I used to look at the gastric bypass info online and wish I could to it. I started looking at it more seriously about a year ago. I noticed there was a seminar at our local hospital and signed up for it, turned in my paperwork that night and got a call to schedule my visits with nutritionist, nurse and psych. Did that and then met the doctor the next week. Then paperwork sent to insurance. My insurance with my job has excluded anything related to weight-loss but thankfully my husbands insurance did cover it and they approved me. It was about 4 weeks from approval before my surgery date. Did the pre op testing and also had an upper endoscopy just to get a look at my stomach and small intestine. Everything was perfect so I just had to wait for my date of April 2 to get here. I did get a little apprehensive. but knew that this was the tool that I needed so desperately. I did not share my decision with many because I did not want to get all of the opinions of 'other' ways to lose weight. My husband and parents were not 100% in agreement with me, but they did support my decision. I did a one week liquid (5 protein drinks a day) diet to shrink my liver before surgery. It was a rough week I won't lie. Surgery went well. I did stay 2 nights because my heart rate was a little higher than the dr liked to see. But looking back over all my visits to him prior to surgery he could see that was normal for me. So I went home and took it easy for several days. I did, and still do, have a hard time getting in 60 gms of protein each day. Seems like I get between 30 and 50 most days. I can not hardly stomach the protein drinks anymore. I try most days to get in at least one, but for some reason, I can hardly even swallow them. I am able to get my vitamins in except an occasional skip of one of my calcium (huge) chewables. It's a mind over matter thing, they don't taste horrible, I just don't like them. I am 3 weeks and 2 days post-op today (the day I started on this website) and I have lost about 28 lbs total. Seems to be going slow but as long as the scale does not go in the opposite direction, I guess I can't complain.
As far as exercising, I have not done much. I caught my sons cold a few days after I got home from the hospital. That knocked me down for several days with fever and coughing (which hurts after surgery) and just feeling horrible. The next week I ended up with a bladder infection AND an ear infection. So due to feeling lousy, not from the surgery, but just from all these other issues I was dealing with, and the antibiotics making me nauseous, I was doing good to get up each day and try to pick up a little mess here and there or do a load of laundry when I felt like it. I was too exhausted to even think of getting on the treadmill. I know I need to and that is my intent here in the next few days since I am starting to feel human again. I hope that doing a little exercise each day and then gradually more, I will lose a little bit faster. I read somewhere that losing slow lessens the extra skin somewhat so I am okay with that.
