Hello! and am I making the right choice?
Sunnybare replied to chubbsey1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, sorry about yours too. It is scary. No I have not had surgery yet. Should be June/July. I am a Registered Nurse and I used to work on a floor in early 2000's when they first strted doing these surgeries in y hometown, the doc was a quack, lots of deaths and complications then. We would get pts when they stepped down from ICU. I swore I would never has RNY! I became an ER nurse at a larger hospital shortly thereafter and our hospital had paired with a large teaching hospital and the docs came and did the surgery at our hospital offering help to more rural obese pts. I would see an occassional pt come in and I started researching them and saw their mortality rate was very low. So in 2008 I started the process and found out I was pregnant. So last year I started the process again and was very interested with the sleeve. I found out the sleeve is done initially on pts that are extreme high risk for RNY. If your surgeon and cardiologist feel you need the sleeve it is in your best interest. After you lose weight with the sleeve and get healthier they typically go back in and convert it to RNY. But if you arecleared for RNY I feel it has a better success than just the sleeve alone. I am severely insulin resistant so RNY I feel and my surgeon agrees is my best chance for doing away with diabetes. There is also a duodenal switch which is a combination of RNY/sleeve. Research them all until you are sick and tired of it. Write down questions and concerns so you have them when you see your doc and can discuss them. Hats off to you for taking this HUGE step to be a better dad! -

I initially wanted to get the sleeve. I had a heart attack at 37 years old, After tons of research I discovered most people with health problems benefit much more from RNY. I have a 3 year old dtr and 14 year old son. I want to be the active parent and one day grandparent. I really feel that in my heart RNY is my only option to take away all the health p[robles. Good luck in your decision. It is scary and difficult. -
Drink more! You sound dehydrated, also when going from laying to sitting or standing do it very slowly. If you have a way to check your blood pressure I would do that.

Miralax is an odorless and flovorless powder you can mix into anything. It works well and safe to use everyday. Just remember intake=output! I have a friend who only goes twice a week since surgery. She does add fiber therapy into her diet so it is softer. If you are feeling it and it is too hard to come out you can get suppositories to soften the poo and make it easier to pass. Hope this helps

They can take time if it is big and slowly moving around. Plus all the calcium you have been taking. Most docs can do a urine test some will do an x-ray or CT Urogram. depending on their capabilities. Most people can pass them if under 7mm with mild to moderate pain. But above that its should probably be lithotripsied.

Awesome! It is great to have some local peeps to chat with. Winston is not too far from here .W106fox, thats great, how long ago was your surgery and do you have any personal pointers for us newbies? Kwagner01, I went to college at UNC-W in mid 90's and as a child spent every summer in Emerald Ilse We are huge beach goers, but now we mostly go up to Corolla and Carova.I am looking forward to being not only healthy enough to fully enjoying the beach again but also not being the largest woman on the beach. I always said it didn't bother me but being honest with myself it really did.

I am in Louisburg, 25 min north of Raleigh. Are you having your surgery done there?

sounds like a kidney stone. Signs of UTI are dark foul smelling urine, pain, fever and urge to urinate frequently. Def call the doc and have it checked out.
