    Drain Tubes?

I had surgery on the 17th and released on the 19th. I had a catheter and a jp drain. The catheter was put in while I was under. The. Drain was the most annoying because it kept leaking. The catheter was great because in the past I had had nausea with the gall bladder surgery and the lap band. At least i knew i wouldn't wet the bed! LOL. I did feel though that I really need to go all the time. Just couldn't feel like it was going into the bag. I was so glad when they took it out thursday the day after the surgery. I immediately went into the bathroom and felt so much better. The drain as I said was messy because the collection bulb kept filling up. They kept it in until we were completing the Discharge process on Friday. I had no idea it was so long. It didn't hurt coming out, just a little pressure. But, that was one if the weirdest sensations I think I have ever felt. It felt creepy! She had me hold my breathe and them blow it out slowly. She pulled and the tube was out before I was finished but eweeeee! But it is all over, I am home and working on my recovery.
  2. My surgery was pushed back to 11am when my surgeon had an emergency case push my time back. I finally went in around1pm. They had me all ready with some relaxing meds, numbed my arm and put in the IV. I remember talking to the wonderful 2 anesthesiologists who knew I was there by myself. They were so kind....they told me that they would take very good care of me and that they had adopted me as family. And nothing would happen to their family! Just a very warm feeling and much appreciated! Prior to going back to surgery they took my cpap and belongings and locked them up. Next thing I remember I am awake in my room and a security officer is delivering my belongings. I was not in pain, a little uncomfortable, but I had a pain med pump to keep me that way. The nurse set up my cpap and made sure I was comfy. I called my parents and found out that my doctor had called them and my nurse also had called them. Everything went really well! Big relief!! Since I was on IV's i was not allowed anything to drink until the next morning(thursday.) The doctor came by and let me go back to Clear liquids until I see him on Tuesday. I slept off and on that night. I even walked at 5:30am. Day 1 post surgery went well until that night. I had already walked several times, was blessed with no shoulder pain (YAY), and had no nausea. Until Thursday night. First my blood pressure went up to 199/94 which was lots higher than earlier 150's/85..then nausea...nausea meds.....then the dry heaves...that was painful but it stopped after 3-4 times and they gave me a big dose of pain meds. That worked. I slept really well that night and woke up with very little pain. Most annoying? The drain...darn thing leaked...but it did what it was supposed to I guess. Doctor came to see me right after the veggie broth, coffee, and lemonade crystal light showed up at 9am. He said I could go home, but to rest, rest, rest, and sip liquids until Monday. Then I can go on full liquids.!! He said I could walk up my stairs and to walk when I could outside. So, a friend came for me and I made it home. So far I have been really careful with my cats, one of which is a 30 pound Maine Coon. He wants to lie on me and since I can't let him, he has taken to cuddly on my pillow above my head. Today is Day 2 post op, and I have walked up and down a hill to the mailbox, rested, sipped, rested, had a shower, rested...lol...get the drift?? But I feel great! I hope this helps some of you who are as nervous as I was! Stay positive, be proactive in trying to walk some, and know we are all there for you. Back to rest I go!

    April Dates

I am having mine tomorrow morning at 11am. I'll be on clear liquids until next Tuesday, i have been on a 3 protein shakes and 1protein bar since last Wednesday. I have lost 10 pounds.
  4. Hi all! I am getting revision surgery early tomorrow morning! I am excited, stressed, and so ready to do this! I started with the band in 2008 and lost around 30 pounds, had to have gall bladder surgery, and gained back 15. I had a too tight band and developed a hiatal hernia and erosive gastritis. Getting stuck was the norm! So, with my sleep apnea and needing to lose 90 pounds to hopefully regain my health, I am doing it. I have been on a liquid 800 cal diet since last Wednesday. I am 10 pounds down this morning. Wish me luck sleeping tonight here in Raleigh, NC!!
