1. Hi in Harker Heights!! Glad to "meet" you. I do not know of a support group here, actually have not even thought about it, but that might be a great idea. I work 4-midnight most evenings so socialization is difficult except via the internet. I would be most happy to talk to you in person anytime and compare stories, ideas, etc. If I knew how to send a private email with contact information I would, I will look into that. In the meantime, I am really looking forward to getting to know you better here. My chubby hubby and I are really looking forward to the upcoming band journey.

    Hello Everyone

Well, if you need someone to talk to you have come to the right place! Welcome, and feel free to bear your soul whenever the need arises. Everyone is very supportive and understanding from what I have seen so far. I am a big talker and have discussed the plan to be banded Oct. 1 with all of my co-workers and family so it feels great to talk about it. My DH, on the other hand wants to keep his band private and has not told his co-workers or family of his plans. To each his own, right? Welcome! and I am looking forward to talking to you more.
  3. Hi fellow Texan! Best of luck. Sounds like you are well on the way to a new life. Keep up the good work! Oct. 1 can't come fast enough for me so hopefully we can keep in touch and compare stories very soon. I live in Temple, not too far from Bryan. We chose Mexico for the price and Dr. Rodriguez for his excellent reputation. He will also be doing our fills. He only charges $100 and uses fluro so we can be assured everything stays in the right place and no complications develop.
  4. Hi everyone, my DH and I are getting things in order to undergo our banding procedures Oct. 1 in Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez. We are planning on going on the low carb diet Sept. 1 to get a head start on the weight loss journey. We are so excited. Finally, after a lifetime of severe obesity and many problems associated with it we have a chance at normal lives. I am relying on the advise and encouragement of the new friends I hope to make here to help get us over the rough spots. I hope someday I too can give inspiration and advise to others who know the pain and heartbreak of living an obese life. Thanks in advance, Klovermom
  5.

I know it seems a long way off, but the time will pass and we will will be on the way to a new way of life. My husband and I are both getting banded Oct. 1 2007 and are self pay because we simply did not have the patience or the tolerance for aggrivation to do all of the insurance requirements. I figure we will save enough on food over the next couple of years to reimburse ourselves.

I hope to read more of your posts and see you in the success coawproceed along.

    Exercise for the Super Sized?

I am with you and understand your plight. I am getting out my old Richard Simmons videos for inspiration. That guy really understood how hard it is to move at our size because he was there himself once and overcame it. Plus he is very positive and I love the 80's music that goes along with his workouts. He says just do what you can and before you know it you will be doing more and more.
  7. Great to hear this. My husband and I are scheduled for Oct 1 with Dr. Rodriguez as well. we were hoping someone had experience with him. So far everything seems to be on the up and up and we wish we could go sooner, but we have to wait for vacation.
  8. I feel like I am butting in answering this since I have not yet had my surgery, but I have been a nurse for 29 years and I say get up and walk! Even open heart surgery patients are out of bed the next day. Staying in bed will cause constipation, increased soreness, gas pain, and can even lead to post op pneumonia. I have had a lap chole and 2 c-sections so I know it is a challenge to move after any surgical procedure, but you will be so much better off if you do.

    Any bingers out there?

That is a great question and I can't wait until someone who has had the procedure writes back. I too am a binger and waiting on surgery. I was under the impression that if you binge after surgery your stomache will hurt, you will throw up, and could even cause banding complications, is that true? i will try very hard to do as I am told and not binge.

    Hello everyone

Hi, I am also new, but I think you read what other people have to say then post a reply if you feel like it. Or you can open a thread if you need information that you don't see addressed. Have you had the procedure yet? I won't have mine until Oct 1, but i am trying to learn as much as I can to improve my chances of success.
  11. The info I got from GEHA insurance sounded pretty unreasonable. including a 12 month medically supervised diet, proof of a 12 month Gym membership, plus a medically necessary staement from my doctor after all else failed. Then they wouol CONSIDER paying and let me know in 3-6 months. I am too anxious to get going on this, and I will probably save the money back in food and medical costs saved.

  15. Hi Melissa. I too am drowning in Central Texas. I am too impatient to wait for insurance approval, plus it seems like a real hassel through my company, so I am headed to Acuna, Mexico Oct 1 to see Dr. Jose Rodriguez for my Lap band. i know how you feel, I too am nervous and a bit scared but the good will outweigh the bad. Great to meet you.
