Oh goodness. Mine started about 3 weeks post op. I was only able to drink and eat Soup. Anything that needed chewing- even puréed things would get stuck. The pain was nearly unbearable, horrible nausea, and the food would often come back up. My doctor wouldn't so a scope until his patients are 6 weeks post op. I was so frustrated with that but had no choice but to wait. At 6 weeks I called to make appt and he wanted me to go to ER to get tests done first. I went in on a Wednesday afternoon (this was 7/10 so not long ago). They did barium swallow test and gastrografin too. The barium test showed the stricture as the tablet got stuck. They also put me on fluids as I was so dehydrated my pee was brown and I had a UTI. They admitted me. I had the scope done this next morning. They found and stretched the stricture. They didn't let me go home until Friday as they wanted to make sure I could eat before I went home. So I ended up staying 2 nights which was more than I stayed for my bypass! I still deal with nausea and some vomiting when food doesn't agree but things aren't getting stuck anymore. They told me once you have a stricture you may need 2-3 scopes to totally keep it open. So far mine is doing fine with the one scope. But it's only been a few weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't come back! Good luck to you! I hope that helps you. I don't think most people have to stay that long. Mine may have been because of UTI and dehydration too- I ended up getting 6 bags of fluids. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

No ice after surgery?

They were bringing me ice chips in the hospital right after surgery! This must just be something your surgeon does. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -

I have read that too but haven't tried it. I have a couple more of them and will try that. I didn't care for the ones I've eaten so far. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -

Help with chewable vitamins

First picture is from the morning of surgery and then one from this week. 51 pounds lost so far and I can really tell with them side by side! I have a long way to go still but this is encouraging. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Your employer decides if they will offer it on insurance or not. I work for Wells Fargo and they covered it with their UHC plan. Employers can include or exclude different things on insurance policies depending on cost and what not. If your insurance contact at work is saying none of the policies available to you offer it then they are probably right. I hate that for you but it's probably not going to get covered. Help with chewable vitamins
Jacqueline K replied to McLynz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last week I switched to a pill multi- couldn't handle the chewable anymore. I have been breaking them in half and they go down ok. My calcium is the Calcet Creamy Bites. They are a little pricey but I figure its worth it to find ones I like. My Iron is a small pill- the multi doesn't have any in it. I do b12 injections so don't have to worry about that pill. Progress so far-picture
Jacqueline K replied to Jacqueline K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I'm feeling better though eating is still a chore these days. Lol glad to hear I'm looking young! I'm only 26 but when you're bigger it seems people think you are older than you are! I felt old too- so much joint pain will all that weight. I can tell the difference already. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -
I got eating well after weight loss surgery. I haven't made anything from it though. Since surgery I had to deal with a stricture. Even now that my stricture is fixed I just hardly eat anything. There just doesn't seem to be much reason to make anything elaborate. Like tonight I had 2 Morningstar chicken nuggets and that was all. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

I dont get pre-op sleep study!?!
Jacqueline K replied to Chelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my surgeon about a sleep study and that i think I have sleep apnea. He told me that with a BMI over 50 he was sure I did have it but since surgery would cure it then no sleep study. I was a little surprised but glad too. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -
I got some regular pill form multis today. They are large but can be broken in half. I've only taken one so far and it went ok. It has no iron but I got a iron supplement that I can take on its own. I am hoping this works because I hate the chewables so much that I skip them too much. I do like gummy ones but my NUT said absolutely no to those. I switched to a B12 shot so I could eliminate that one vitamin. My sister gives it to me and its not a big deal. Honestly kind of wish I could do all my Vitamins that way so it would be over and done with. Calcium is the one vitamin I don't have issue with. I got Calcet Creamy Bites and they are like dessert!
