I guess mine was a mild one I started out being able to swallow pureed foods to not being able to swallow water my surgeon did a scope the same day I had the complaint and would have done my dilation that same day but because I am on blood thinner she had to have me off of it for 5 days to be safe but 5 days later I was at hospital with nothing by mouth they put in iv for versed 15 min after I counted to 2 I was waking up and it was done. No pain, no bleeding and I was able to drink that day but back on pureed food by day 2.

Your welcome. I am a mother of 3 working 2 jobs to make ends meet I lost the love of my life and extra income last year. saved up to meet my co-pay for my surgery. Didn't plan on having to save up to find a meal replacement that I could drink for the rest of my life and it taste descent. So I am all about research into what I can get for cheap to free. I figure if I can find a meal replacement and protein powder that would cover me for a month that if I pay about a hundred dollars is about what I would have spent on grocery's for about two weeks for just myself I am doing good. Not looking for sympathy just honest about my world.

Antidepressants...anyone?!?!?
Sheri h replied to marissa24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now I have to call primary which I just saw her on 19th. I know she is going to make me stop taking it but I guess if I start weaning myself off it I will hopefully see a difference in the delay and like she told me that I may not need it since surgery. I did fall asleep one night without taking it, and now it is just like a habit of taking my other meds I take it routinely. Guess I will start tonight and cut it into 4 pieces and take 3 and see how it goes. Back in school for LPN to RN program can't afford for all my brain cells to not be firing. -
Antidepressants...anyone?!?!?
Sheri h replied to marissa24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny until reading these post I couldn't explain what I was having and now I can. I don't take antidepressants but I do take ambien for insomnia. I have taken it for about 2 years. just had surgery rny april 10. Now I am having what I thought was short term memory loss. I have a delay in thought processing information. Have just put in a call to my surgeon but until they call back just figured I would continue typing this since I had started it as my brain caught up with me. -
if you go online some of the bariatric sites will send you free samples I went on one called bariatric choice and at the bottom they have a tag for free samples they sent me 1 meal replacement in chocolate which was ok, a pudding one and a chicken broth one which was ok as well. but the person that mentioned GNC is correct I have been doing GNC meal replacements and protein drinks I have had to take back 1 meal replacement because it was mango gross (too sweet) and 1 protein powder because it causes extreme gas pains. If you have your receipt they will refund but if you threw it in the trash by mistake they will just exchange. I took the mango one for 2 weeks before taking it back thought I can do this while I held my nose and drank and they still replaced it with a silk chocolate one that actually taste ok.

Naked Juice is just blended down fruit all your sugar is from fruit and most are about 130 calories per serving with each bottle being 2 servings. so what are you really getting. 0 fiber 1 to 2 gm of protein and 26 to 28 gm of sugar per serving. which in turn may cause dumping I drank 30cc of orange juice once and had the only dumping episode so far and the oj was natural 100% juice as well.

tried these and you are right the lemon are yummy but the chocolate are so gross had to spit it out. so for my calcium intake I used calcium crystals it is something I can add to my protein drinks and unflavored so doesn't change the taste.

It's Official - No seatbelt extender needed
Sheri h replied to melhealthy's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is so great excited for you also since it seems you have to do alot of flying with your job. I know that feeling because I used to watch a show that they had on about south west airlines and twice I saw them make a heavy person step to the side to tell them that they had to purchase two seats because of their size. OMG! when my family wanted to take a cruise in 2011 I was ok bought 2 tickets for me and oldest daughter. Then they told me that it was leaving out of orlando florida. I was going to rent a car to drive there instead of flying because I was scared they were going to embarrass me and ask me to step aside and then buy another ticket (didn't know anything about extenders) my daughter thought I was being silly but inside I was a nervous wreck. So the day of the departure from Dallas/Fort Worth airport I walked up handed my ticket got on the plane and pulled that seat belt and sucked my gut it and it snapped. I told my daughter I wouldn't drink anything prior because I didn't want to have to unbuckle and squeeze down to the restroom. on the way back someone had adjusted the seatbelt so I started to freak out when the seatbelt wouldn't snap but then I slowed down my breathing re-adjusted it and it snapped. All of this was pre surgery now I can't wait until next plane trip so I can do this with no fear of someone stepping up to me to pull me aside and tell me to purchase 2 seats. (and by the way I am told I watch way to many movies if any of you saw Tyler Perry's why did I get married then you should understand what I am saying. Sad -
The way I found out what medication I can crush and what I can't is before my surgery I called the pharmacy I currently use and asked them. I even asked about non script ones if they want your business they will gladly help you.

Poor communication between family physician, surgeon and me!
Sheri h replied to jetson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to see my cardiologist and primary with letters also before. Was nervous when I found out from surgeon that the cardiologist hadn't faxed the release to have surgery because fax number had changed , they said. well comes to find out that the bariatric clinic had already submitted my paper work and had already received an ok from insurance so my nervousness and anxiety was for nothing. What others don't realize is that this is an end of one life and a start of a new one and when you do what your supposed to you expect the doctors to do what they are. saying this to say when you surgeon's office submits you should be fine. don't worry you should be fine. -

i am never hungry have to remind myself to eat and my feeling of full is different than before. Before when ever I felt full could keep eating what ever I wanted now after a few bites my full is stop now or pay later kinda feeling. -
six weeks post op and I met some friends at a mexican resturant called alfredo's (thought they were talking italian) and I had the tortilla soup 4 bites of the broth with tomatoes and took the rest home. Had enough left over could have eaten on it for a week.

mine was oj also and realized how much sugar is really in that stuff because I only drank about 30cc. Never before and so far haven't since.

My lifting was nothing over fifteen pounds for the first 6 weeks which for me turned into 10 weeks due to a small bowel obstruction and another surgery 7 days after my rny surgery.

Mine growls alot but not a hunger kind of growl more like a movement or things getting into place with no pain. I don't get hungry anymore I just have to remind myself to eat so that I can make my daily protein goals. Head hunger is my worst enemy. I see my family eat and I think I want it. The best part of it is a couple of bites and I feel full like I just ate a big thanksgiving meal and with it comes the feeling of one more bite and it is all coming back up. When I am having a tightness in my chest I have either not chewed my food up good or ate to fast. (i do this alot if reading while eating)

my journey began 5 days after my birthday and thats what I called it Happy Birthday to me. My family is very close as you may see in my pic we lost my mother in 06 a month before she turned 66 from ovarian cancer. at that point we started taking yearly pics. we last year we decided to do it every other year well this was our off year (which I am glad) by this time next year we will have a new addition and the new me not taking up so much space. -
My family are the only ones whose opinions matter so I have caught myself telling half truths to co-workers. one noisy co-worker asked what type of surgery was i going in for I told her female surgery. (well it was on a female so wasn't really a lie) because once when I told a co-worker/ school friend that I had known since kindergarten she said you didn't you are going to look funny small. she is just jealous I figured out because in the same breath she talked about how her husband won't agree to let her do it. she is heavier than I was and is still gaining weight. I feel sorry for her. so now when I go to birthday dinners with family we usually do places where I can get soup or salad and some places will let us split a meal and olive garden and charlestons split it on two plates.

Beginning My Journey
Sheri h replied to KellyLessBelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You basically told my past and why I started gaining weight at the age of 10. And again you sound like you are taking charge of your life as well. God Bless You. -
one week shy of 3 months post op and I just started wearing body sprays again maybe 2 weeks ago. already had heightened sense of smell so after surgery couldn't stand for daughters to come into my room and use one of my many body sprays or perfumes. gag! still can't stand the thought of chicken let alone eat it even grilled. but now I can do 2 oz of lean beef.
