Aunt Flo is back again? seriously!
Cherry replied to MrsLulu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have PCOD. I didnt have a period for maybe 6 months, then when I went on my pre-op eating plan, I had 2 regular ones. My surgery was 4/17 and if my period had stayed regular, then I should have gotten it and had been done by 4/17....but it never came. I was praying it didn't come on the day before or day of surgery - and it didnt. I stayed in the hospital nights of 4/17 & 4/18 and 4/19 I had bad cramping in my left lower abdomen which turned out to be my period on 4/20. Once it started, the cramping stopped. I also think that this attributed to the weight/fluid retention since I came out of hospital weighing 5 lbs more. I am hoping by Friday, it will be gone and the fluids with it. -
4 Days Post-Op - no weight loss, some pics
Cherry posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well at 3pm today, I will be 4 days post-op. I am doing wonderful - Too good to be true. I don't think my Dr even did a RNY LOL. As of yesterday, I was up 5 lbs from the morning of surgery, but I'm assuming that's still the IV retention and gasses in me. I wasn't dehydrated before surgey, so not really sure why the IV would be weighing so much still in me. Anyhow, here are some pics of the process: http://www.rnytalk.com/gallery/album/441-going-through-it/ -

Cherry replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. I dropped a bunch of weight on the pre-op eating plan. My belly is like jello but I don't carry the majority of my weight there though luckily.age 42 5'4 HW 237 preop W 199 (I flipped with excitement to be >200 lbs on the day of surgery) -
Same here. Not even 4 days post op. using neosporon cream over the tape and Benadryl gel. Not much relief.

How long until pureed foods?
Cherry replied to MrsLulu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a food list from my doctor that I follow. It lays out everything or idea to have each hour for the 1st week after being released. Example: 8am - 3 oz decaf tea 9am - 3 oz SF jello 10am - 3 oz sports drink etc etc etc - and in addition SIP SIP SIP When I read a thread like this, I just get a lttle bit confused. What do you guys consider a clear liquid? I wouldn't consider SF hot cocoa a clear liquid and this is why I begin to get confused. I also would not consider a protien shake, a clear liquid. My papers then go on to list foods/ideas for stage 3, 4, and 5 (3 being full liquids, 4 being pureed, 5 being soft foods) -

My surgery was Wednesday the 17th....
Cherry replied to Jackie408's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too was April 17. I too am in amazing shape. I have been walking and doing a low impact arm workout too. was able to go home the next day but I opted to stay since I am 2hrs from the hospital. I also came home to no help; thus independent totally. I too have a cat who likes to lay on me, so I have been pushing him down to my legs. If you click my profile, and gallery, you can see a few pics of the process. Glad to hear your surgery went as well as mine! -

oddly enough, I could not even feel the heparin & lovenox shots. They were tiny tiny needles. However, these are the bruises they left. -
Protein drink idea
Cherry replied to one day at a time's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going through similar issues. Today is 1st day home from hospital. My question to you is how long does your drink stay warm??? I am making a hot cocoa portien drink in the morning but the cup is 8oz. I have divided it to 2 mugs and stuck one in the fridge. The 4 ounces goes cold before I finish it - I can drink 4 oz no problem, but I am scared to do it (drink too many ounces at one sitting) -
Just added this pic to my gallery: http://www.rnytalk.com/gallery/image/1339-rny-incisions-04192013/

These are my incisions on the day I left the hospital; no worse than when I had my gallbladder removed -
From the album: Going Through It
in hospital, I had choices that included vegetable, beef, or chicken broth; apple jusice; decaf tea; choices of flavor in SF jello, and choices of frozen ices (which were not SF) I usually chose a cup of broth and cherry ices. The ices are 4 oz so I can't eat too much. -
Protein Mix or Shakes..
Cherry replied to GaPeach31061's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The unjury chicken broth is AMAZING - I mix a little boxed broth, with a little Water, then a scoop of unjury. If you warm it properly, you will not get lumps - you CANNOT taste the powder. I also got the flavorless unjury but didn't care for it. -
surgery was Weds. Dr wanted to release me noon the next day!! He said I was doing awesome and that I had am amazingly healthy liver. I did decide to stay another day though "just in case". I was released at noon today..... the friend who picked me up had no idea I had RNY. As I have said before; only my husband and my Drs knew about this. And I will keep it that way.... So today is about 3rd day out. I still SWEAR this Dr didn't do anything to my stomach!!! I feel amazing. I was walking all over the hospital, and when I came home I dropped of my friend and drove myself home (2 miles down rural road and I had no narcotics in me). I do not plan to drive for the next few days - I have no where to go anyway. I am alone and I am fine as I knew I would be. So here are my issues: The pain in my one shoulder is insane (probably in both shoulders but my left shoulder is numb and has nerve damage). The PAs & nurses all told me this is the gasses still in me. I had to get some chewable Gas-x, which although I've taken 5 already today, I am not passing gas.... I have cramps in my left side lower abdomin which I know is either gas or a PMS-ing overy. I do have 2 large bruises in similar areas on each hip/fatty roll. Tonight feel great being home, especially peeing in my own toilet. I have bruises on the back of my thighs from sitting on their bowl trying to pee - at one point, they did a sono on me and said if I couldn't purge 1000mls of urine, I would have to get a cathater. UM NOOOO so I sat on toilet until I fell asleep. This moring all the pee came out And I am so glad to be in my own bath room. I did gain 5 lbs since the morning of surgery (IV & gasses probably). As for my stomach - well they said 1 oz every 15 mins. My Dr also said to sip sip sip all day - but in the hospital I ate 1 italian ice (4 oz) and 3 oz of broth - so that was 7 oz at one sitting. I had no pain nor problems, and the doc even has me swallowing pills whole!! I have pin pricks and bruising all over - I can't ever get an IV plugged into me ONCE - it usually takes 4 times. And anytime the vampires came to do my blood, that was another 2-3 tries uggg Overall, I am freaking bugging out about how good I feel for not even 3 days!!! Tomorrow begins my Quest to get protien in me. I do NOT know how I will do that.... I am drinking the unjury broth and I have stuff to make amazing protien hot chocolate..... but the stuff goes cold because I am only supposed to drink 1oz every 15 mins!!! So where to you ladies stand regarding protien and liquid diet??! Congrats eveyone. We're all on the other side!!!

Yayyy just took out my IV ! Going home in 4 hours. I don't was to jinx myself but I'd swear my Dr didn't do the RNY!! I have the 5 holes tho. But this feels exactly the same as pre-surgery. Today I'm off some of the meds so I'm sore. Feels like I did 200 sit ups (which I have in life so I can say its the exact same feeling) or it feels like 25 encyclopedias are stacked on me. I have bad bruising near my hips in my fatty role which the nurses say is from the heperin & lovonox. I also still have the awful pain in my shoulders . Otherwise this feels too good to be true.

My surgery was weds. Right before surgery I had to poop (still result of the magnesium citrate). I'm only 48 hrs out so nope. I'm on liquid diet still do I imagine I won't need to for an entire week. For me, 1 wk is nothing to worry about.

I think we're all recovering. I'm on my cell so it's a pain to write , plus I'm seeing double from my meds. Will update from laptop tomorrow.

My surgery is in 12 hours. I have done amazing with my pre-op eating plan and I have not felt hungry or had cravings etc. I have dropped 38 lbs (maybe 39 by tomo morning LOL). My BMI is still up there but I am 199 lbs right now. But today, I had the day free and alllll I did was research recipes!!! And I trolled around here to see what others were eating. I found that someone here was eating pureed chili and it sounds soooo good. And then there was nothing on TV so I ended up on some burger show. OMG I had to turn it off!!! I didn't think I was hungry, but I am on Pinterest and EVERYTHING looks so wonderful!! I cannot wait to be in my 2nd week post-op so I can eat some of these yummy things I am seeing. And I was in food-heaven on Pinterest today!!! I've never been a huge fan of cooking (like it's not a hobby at all) but I cannot wait to start cooking!!! .....12 more hours!!!

Live Alone - Surgey in 2 wks. No support
Cherry posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I am currently living alone because my husband is away for work. He cannot come home for 8 more months. I will be having my surgery basically alone (a friend will be helping as I need). Since pursing my REY and going through all of the process, I have lost 30 lbs. Yes, I yo-yo. So my family is NOT in support of my choice to get REY. It annoys the f*ck out of me because they don't see the diabetis, the sleep problems, the binging..... to them its about weight I suppose. I got the lecture about "Taking the short cut" blah blah blah. Honestly, I am rather offended at how they have acted..... do they think I am some idiot???? I am a higher risk patient due to severe allergies and complications in other surgeries, so my family is in terrible fear. I am NOT in fear though - well not out of the norm anyway. I have the typical fear of anesthesia etc etc. I trust my doctor and this was not an easy choice for me. I got very involved in this decision, even researching the biology of it all etc etc.... EVERY DETAIL! I have lost weight before like this...my family seems to forget and is stil stuck in the mindset that being healthy and at a healthy weight is all about will power etc..... I'm really tired of it. My date is April 17. Being alone is complicating it a tad - I have to find someone to pet sit, and someone to take me to/from hosp, and then stick around as I need them afterwards. I dont know anyone where we live. *sigh* -
Shut Off the Food Chanel :(
Cherry replied to Cherry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I made it So my experience has been great! Then again, my surgery was only 13 hrs ago As I've mentioned in other posts, I have dreadful anesthesia issues. This time wasn't horrible but not perfect. I was nauseous the entire time after surgery & was given a lot of meds. The scratch down my throat is 10x worse than my surgery lol I actually began sipping Water pretty quickly just to ease my throat. Then there was the awful pain on my shoulders. Felt like a horse kicked me. So I was peeing & I noticed blood on my gown. Took me 2 hrs to figure it out; I had some drainage from an incision. Thing is, I have NO pain from surgery & forgot I had incisions!!! No problems really. I HATE the nebulizer in my nose though.
