I'm sorry you may need another surgery. But I want to thank you for bringing this to my attention. I thought I had asked EVERY question possible and learned everything (biologically), until your post. So now I have learned something new!

Can you drink protein drinks too fast?
Cherry replied to kraney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this was tough for me too because I could drink my fluids very quickly.... and without naseua. I could down 8 oz of unjury broth in 10 mins. I saw my Dr today and discussed this and he told me to STOP. He explained it similar to this - my stomach is not acting right yet; it is not used to itself. It may not even have full feeling and may not even understand when it is supposed to message you that it is full. He told me that no matter what, I must measure my drinks AND food and NOT consume more than 1oz at a time and no less than 10 mins a part. He said to start at 15 min intervals and not to go below 10. He said that it is not necessarily a great thing that I am not feeling pain. He said my stomach needs at least 4 months to begin to understand itself. And most importantly is to chew - even pureed because I MUST have the saliva enzyme go down with the food. -
Since Surgery 4/23/13 weight os up 3.5 pounds
Cherry replied to cathyh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was 4/17. I was there 3 days. I came home weighing +4 lbs from the morning I went in. In 1 week I lost that 4lbs plus 6 more. I had to do a bunch of arm exercises though to help release the gas that went towards my shoulders, and I took gas X for 7 days which really helped. I did not have one large gas release, it was subtle and began on day 3 post op. I had a BM on day 6 that was like goose poop - kind of gross (sorry) -
Saw my Dr today for post-op visit #1. Asked him about this.... He said there is a standard but also every patient is different due to their size. I happen to be a smaller patient. For me, he removed 50 cm (19.5 inches) and pulled up 120 cm (47.25 inches).... and yes he used the medical terms, and no I don't recall them - but this was the gist of it.

I'm post op day #9 and had my 1st follow up - and came home and ate a SF chocolate pudding. I ate all of it within the hour (3.6 oz) and had no problem with it. I am looking forward to some creamy Soups tomorrow, though not thrilled about straining them. I will though. I will not do anything wrong in this recovery. If any of you recall, I had a perfect surgery and have had no pain etc.... well my Dr warned me today that my stomach might be numb and that I need to be extremely careful with all I put in it.... and I must MEASURE everything in ounze cups and NOT over do it. I have had no problem consuming 5-6 oz of Water in an hour. He doesn't want me doing that with food. I don't have any appetite and the pudding wasn't all that thrilling - it was just nice to have something other than broth. lol

Caught up with your blog - WOW what a different experience than me. My experience was perfect - dreamy - like a fairytail. And my recovery has been amazing until I just got sluggish yesterday. I had no prob getting in/out of cars, no probs at all in the bathroom nor with showering. Your husband sounds amazing. I am glad you have had his help. I have been 100% alone. I actually drove the day after I was released (no pain meds that day) and have been driving every day since. I think my experience has been different from many - it's really weird. I had more pain when my gallbladder was remove din 2007 and I consider this surgery to be very similar. I think I am an oddball!!! Oh and you wrote that you strain the noodle soup because the brith is better - hmmmm I should try this but IDK how I will part with those noodles!! Right now I am drinking plain broth (unjury enhanced) and its "OK" but I bet what you do is 200X better!

I am day 8 I was doing amazing until yesterday. I just felt totally drained yesterday and laid down a lot. Same thing today. I am very tired today. Yes, I have been getting all my protien & Fluids. But for me, I think I overdid it because I have been walking a lot and doing an arm workout (no weights). Today is the 1st day that I just dont want to eat/drink. My steri-strips have begun to fall off and 2 of my incisions needed bandaids. I dont want keloids. Tomo is my 1st post-op. I have lost 6 lbs in 8 days.BTW

The smell of pizza 9 days post
Cherry replied to Toby Michael's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny because I have NEVER liked pizza..... but all I can think about it chili and a bite of pizza!! I am 1 wk post op. -
Wait I am confused...... what's all this talk about being "conservative"? And going back in to do what.... do it AGAIN?? Can anyone elaborate? Isn't there a standard measurement that they follow the FIRST time?

Any1 having surgery hubby deployed?
Cherry replied to crmills74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, however, my husband is on a work assignment for 10 months. He left nearly 3 months ago just when I was at the beginning of all of this. I couldn't distract him from work with making life about "me" so there was minimal talk between he & I about my surgery. I was SHOCKED when my date was scheduled and I contemplated not telling him. I didn't tell him for a few weeks actually, but then I did tell him. He was very upset (did he think I wasn't going to go through with it?) And aside from what may have been his own reasons, I am POSITIVE that he was upset because he was scared for me and knew he could not be here when I had surgery. I am 1 wk post op. I skyped with him when I was in recovery but never even remembered. The next day we skyped, he was rude to me. I won't be able to see him for a bit, but am hoping to make a trip to see him when I am somewhat recovered. I hope he is surprised but to be honest, I really don't care - my surgery was about ME (sorry to sound a little rude). I don't think it would have been right to have surgery without his knowledge. As it was, I carry copies of legal docs on me in case I died or something happened, and although I would have been dead, I would never have been able to forgive myself for not telling him despite his non-support. I know this is not same as you, but -
OH NO!!!! I am so glad you got to the hospital and got the IV though!! How are you feeling today? I am 1wk post op and have been doing amazing until last night - just was really nauseous and did everything to avoid throwing up - eventually landed in a cool shower at 2am. I dont know why that happened out of nowhere. Otherwise, I am getting 64oz in me no problem. Can't wait to be able to eat some new things next week.

I'm 1 wk post op. I'm 4 lbs lighter than on the morn of surgery, although I came home 4 lbs heavier so basically I lost the 4 lbs of IV fluids and 4 more lbs. Anyhow, having no problems whatsoever. I can easily get 64 oz of fluids in. My question/concern is, although I'm taking in about 1 oz every 15 mins, at my "meal time" I can easily take in 4-6oz in 15 mins (usually a cup of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury broth or jello). Is this normal??? I have NO pain, and no indication of being full though I won't take in more than 6 oz simply out of fear.

Soooo glad to hear that. I was hoping that was the case and everything was just passing right through! Thank you. My follow up is Friday.

What EXACTLY can I eat at these restaurants....?
Cherry posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm actually very nervous about this.... not so much about the food, but about the waste of money.... I am only 1 wk out, but in 5-6 weeks, political events begin for me which means being around a lot of food and lunch/dinner events. I cannot decline many of them but just feel as if so much will be a waste. I do plan to bring left overs home when possible, though it's a bit tacky to do so. I need a FULL LIST of what I CAN eat. Luckily, I have been a fickle eater much of my life and I don't endulge in sweets and carbs.... I do look forward to the meats. I do not look forward to the money though What do you guys eat at: Italian Restaurants TGI Fridays Applebees Friendly's Ruby Tuesdays? -
Actually, I can do more than 64 oz of water which kind of worries me. I am not really thirsty but do it because we are supposed to. My 1st follow up is Friday - I cannot wait.

Eating? We're supposed to be eating? LOL

I live in a snooty town where almost ALL menus at all restaurants state "no meal sharing". Can you belive that???? I wonder if it's some bizarre town code.

what do you mean "control your stomach"? I am doing low impact things now and have not wanted to over do my stomach. Is this something that would help my belly?

What should I pack for the hospital? SURGERY THIS WEEK!@#$%^&*!
Cherry replied to NycGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am post-op 4/17 I spend 2 full days, 2 nights. This is my list: Toothbrush phone/charger Back scratcher slippers underwear chapstick (used a lot) though they had stuff there pillow hand cream for my legs (they also had this there) deoderant brush tampons (I got my period on the day I came home BTW) 2 magazines The comfy clothes I wore there, I wore home. I was in hospital gowns the entire time with the hospital socks. I brought my own PJs and never wore them. Remember that you have an IV in the entire time so you cannot freely put shirts on. I did not want to overpack.
