    Diet Snapple

I HAD a serious Diet Snapple addiction in life.... Here are some problems I had with it (Pre surgery life BTW) It left me with bad aftertaste in mouth I always had cotton mouth in the morning I stalled frequently I experimented by removing diet snapple from my diet and my stalls came to an end. Post surgery, I never touched it again, but that was because I got off of it long before. I TRUELY believe that there is something very addictive in it - could possibly be the artificial sweetener. It is GARBAGE (although I dont think one here & there is a problem)

    Feeling Boney !

Yeah I agree about the collar bone too - though my right side is destroyed and looks pretty ratty now that you can see it more. I had not anticipated that my knee bones would hurt when I sleep from bumping. I cannot imagine that skinny people feel this though.
  3. For you, perhaps this is fine. And I do agree that when it comes to food, some people do need to satisfy that craving before they blow the entire 'diet'. But that should either be a substitute or the smallest bite possible to satisfy it. The craving at that point is emotional and sets people up for emotional control and an automatic 'rebellion' mode. FOOD CONTROLS PEOPLE and it should not. It makes me sad for food addicts, just as it makes me sad for those who MUST consume a drug. I want to scream that food is NOT better nor stronger than you! While food is NOT a human relationship, your point about the 'last meal' has been argued to me by MANY about bachelor/bachelorette parties and justifying sexual shannigans with the non-partner. Just sayin'
  4. Yes it is worth it... Keep in mind that there are many people who also post about several post-op problems; physical and emotional. My opinion is that those who cannot deal with a 2-wk pre-op diet plan, are going to really struggle post-op. The doctors give us orders, yet many turn to forums to justify defying those orders simply because other people have received different orders. To me, the pre-op loss was about will power....and I succeeded and lost 40 lbs. But it was important to succeed in the will power....not necessarily the pounds dropped. No, we are not all perfect and we have set backs and hard times. But this is a life altering procedure with serious potential complications. If the doctor says you must lose 10# pre-op, then please realize there is a benefit and reason for it. You did great so keep it up. food is NOT better than you!!

    couldnt eat

Yes. I was 4/17. Almost week four, I was nauseous and couldn't eat. I've seen a trend too with this happening between wk 3 & 4.
  6. My weight loss is extremely slow. In 5 wks I have lost only 15 lbs and already experienced 2 stalls. I understand why: I was 199 on day of surgery. I cannot drink shakes so getting my Protein in has been near to impossible. I'm allergic to whey & the vegan shakes are gross PLUS expensive. Right now I'm trying to get eggs, chicken, and turkey in me but I'm not even close to the required amount. So I'm averaging 2-3 lbs/wk. my calories have been 300-400 which prior to surgery, I'd say is very unhealthy for me. I am taking my Vitamins though.
  7. Yesterday a discussion ensued at a family dinner where both my mother and sister insisted that lap bands can go on the stomach with nothing left out of the belly to adjust them. I know nothing about the lap band but I thought there's a "little meter" that needs to be accessed by the doctor in order to adjust the band. Can anyone elaborate? In the past 5 years or so, had this style band surgery changed? Thanks
  8. Thank you SoccerMomma - that's the answer I was looking for (mostly) I don't know a whole lot about the band, but I suppose I was mistaken to think the "port" comes out of your abdomen for doctor access..... apparently it is sewn into the inside of your skin and then the "saline" is injected through your skin into the "port" (not called a meter thingy as I originally referred to it as). I read up about how some people experience feeling it or a lump where it is, and some will elect to have it put unter the muscle. Meanwhile, my mother & sister know very little about it personally (they just want to act like they know about it). This all came up because my mother accused me of having "one of those lab band things" done. I was a little pissed off about the whole discussion...... then my sister said that there is no "meter" that is accessed. I dropped the discussion because I was already pissed off. My family does not know I had RNY 4 weeks ago.

    Not losing :(

well 30 days post op today. Only lost 14 lbs in 30 days. My stall did break though. I must admit, although it is frustrating to not have lost a few more pounds, my overall loss is still 51 lbs and I am at the lower end now where losing as little as 5 lbs is noticeable now.... but I am having sleep issues because my knees have gotten boney and I must sleep with a pillow between them. My hip bones are also digging into the bed (regardless of how soft our mattress is) and it's painful. I am still at 185 and clearly look overweight, but I am actually not minding my curves today as I had 3 months ago 51 lbs heavier.

    Restaurants & Eating Out

Some suggestions.... I am 30 days post-op and my own family does not know. We had a late mother's day dinner yesterday and my mom noticed EXACTLY what I ate, and questioned me today. I told her I didn't really feel well (which she did believe me, despite it being MY favorite restaurant). So here are some suggestions: Since I am assuming your husband will be with you, if you can mill around with plate in hand, carry around HIS dirty plate so it looks like you ate. Get the bare minimal you need to eat, and be sure your own plate is messy with goopy dressings. It was DISTURBING to me how much everyone else ate at the restaurant last night and humbling because I would have been eating the similar portions myself had it not been for my RNY. I was actually saddened to see how unhealthy all the eating was. And OMG my husband's steak looked and smelled amazing. On Saturday we're going to a party at my favorite catering venue..... uggg
  13. What did your stricture feel like? Is that something that is a 'natural' complication, or is it something we can somehow prevent? Thanks
  14. I'm glad you chose to cancel. Here's one reason why: I was a surgery fairytale. Everything went perfect & 4 days later, no pain, no complications, nothing. Too good to be true. On day 23, the day after my 3 wk post op visit, I had a trip planned. I could have cancelled but had no reason to. So I made the 9 hour drive and had horrible rain the entire way and day 26, here I am SICK AS A DOG and worried. I'm not anywhere reasonably close to my surgeon, though there's a hospital near by. I don't know what happened and if I had a stomach I'd say this was a stomach virus. I'm in pain & beyond nauseated. I'm not throwing up because I can't even get anything in me. The smell of food makes me sick & i cant even drink. Being dehydrated would be welcomed since an IV at the ER will help that...... but what if its something else? Yes I am a bit panicked. Who would have thought? And at least I'm still in the states. I can't imagine how I could have ruined my Jamaica vacation or further endangered myself.
  15. Day 3. How do I know something isn't wrong?
  16. I'm 13 days post op. I am also at a stall for 4 days! I haven't moved 1 pound. It's so frustrating because I see so many people in the beginning drop a lot of pounds. My stall began on day 9 post op! Seems strange. Anyhow, right now everything that I eat is basically a sugarfree item (I had tomato Soup that has some sugar I suppose). But my brain feels like mush and I am suddenly confused over things..... In the future, will I ALWAYS have to go for the sugar free version of an item? For example; if I have a small tiny peice of cheesecake, will it always need to be sugar free, or will there be a time where I can have the leaded version? Thanks
  17. WOW!! I'm post of 4/17 and I too began the worst 48 hours ever. I cannot eat or drink anything!!! I'm so glad I came across your thread. I started with zofran again today which helped but didn't solve. I'm finishing out 48 hours w/no protein and hardly even water. I was in bathroom much of the night. I'm going to try a cracker in a few mins.
  18. I am 23 days post op. I had an amazing surgery and recovery. I have had no complications, very little pain, and THOUGHT I was doing everything right. I did however, have a stall and have been a slow loser. In 23 days I am only down 8 or 9 lbs, with 90% of that being in the 1st week. I then did not lose 1 pound in 15 days. This morning, I think the stall broke finally. So today was my 30 day follow up. I had to have it early due to a trip I leave for tomorrow. I told my doctor that I had made pureed chili 2 days ago and ate it for the past 2 days. I also developed a pain in my left shoulder that I had "Hoped" was just residual gas pain.... So in my doctor's line of questioning and concern about this shoulder pain, I explained to him that I had measured 4 oz of pureed chili and had eaten the 4oz over the course of 40 mins - and I have done this for 3 total meals. WOW I AM SO WRONG - apparently when it comes to food, I should only be eating TWO total ounces and for only up to 20 mins. So he told me the pain is from overeating and I was 1) stretching my pouch and 2) could "cause a blow out"!! He was VERY concerned and actually annoyed at me. So, this cannot be a learning curve. This had apparently been about my confusion in how much "food" vs "liquid" I could and should be consuming. And I still have confusion, but apprently 4 oz of pureed food in 40 mins is TOO MUCH. uggggg.... Soooo 1) was my doctor in a bad mood already when I got there 2) justified in being angry about this 3) worried I will FAIL I 1) am NOT going to fail 2) am now pretty freaked out that maybe I did damage to myself after having been in the PERFECT recovery both physically and emotionally 3) will not be eating 4 oz of anything further!! I couldn't drive away from his office fast enough! I have always liked my doctor too! I am now really worried!!!
  19. I just feel terrible - I am mostly worried I guess though. How would I know if I did damage to my pouch? I am not having any signs of problems, with exception to the left shoulder pain (and after 23 days days, I seriously doubt it's gas in there still). So NO, I will not eat 4 oz again (even though it was deferred over 40 mins) but now I am totally worried - it's as if my surgery etc has been too good to be true, and THIS is the other shoe dropping. Uggg. I have to get past this!

    Not losing :(

15 day stall finally broken!! -2 Hope I can keep losing now So down 9 or 10 lbs in 23 days
  21. I'm 3 wks post op today. When I came home from hospital, I had that shoulder problem where the gas was causing me terrible pain. After 1 week of arm exercises, it was gone - ALL GONE Today, at 3 wks post op, I am having same awful pain once again in same shoulder. Is it possible this is still gas pain 3 full weeks later (when I had no pain for past 2 weeks)? Thanks
  22. Yes, it is my left shoulder again. I have an apt on Friday so will definitely ask. It seems so strange to think this is more gas, but anything is possible!
  23. What is your weight and BMI????? I didn't notice that you posted it unless I missed it.

    Not losing :(

I was 198 on the morning of my surgery, after having just lost about 40 lbs in 11 weeks. I am 3 wks post op tomo and have lost only 6, maybe 7 lbs and not 1 lb in nearly 2 weeks. I wonder if this is an issue of being at a lower weight overall to start, and in my case, just having the lowest metabolism ever. But I am a little angry - I did this surgery because I am a chronic Yo-Yo'er (as well as PCOD, insulin resistant, and type II Diabetic etc etc) but I was losing weight faster, naturally (typical of my yo-yo-ing) I am sad to know that in 3 wks I have lost only 6 lbs and worried. I see my Dr on Friday.

    Not losing :(

I dont know - however, I am 3 wks post op and have lost only 8 lbs in 3 wks. I haven't lost a single pound in 12 days either. EVERYONE says not to worry' it will come off..... but like you I am pretty upset by this. I see my doc in 5 days so I al going to ask him why I have only lost 8 lbs in 3 wks..... Question for you; what was your weight on the day of surgery?
