I'm also with Dr Pham. Date is April 17. I'm at Sister's though. Have some questions for you....
  2. well Well so much for me being a washed up EMT!!*crawling back in my cave now*
  3. soooo similar to me!!! There's a lot of focus on the weight....for me there's the daibetis too and sleep problems. I'm sleeping better now for 3 reasons; I have the cranky carbs out of me, I am on a new medicine that helps, and because of the medicine I have less physical pain in my disabled limb. In terms of weight though, I have another 80 lbs to go to be where I want to be (60 to reach my first goal). My Dr doesn't use the same liquid liver-reduction diet that other doctors seem to use. The diet he does use is similar to the diet I have been following for 8 weeks now. I do not anticipate that I will drop a lot of weight on the 2 wk Pre op diet. I start my 2 wk pre op diet on tuesday.... and it's not going to be any huge deal to me to be honest.
  4. I have never even heard of this med! WTH? What is it and what's it for?
  5. in one of my past traumas, I lost about 2/3 of my hair. It was devestating to me (at the time). I am pre-op and it's starting again. I am off to the store to find Biotin today!!! Any other specific Vitamin?
  6. I too am affraid of telogen effluvium. I've had it happen 3 times in my life already from traumatic events and it was AWFUL. I don't take a ton of pride in my appearance, but I LOVE my hair. This was very devestating to me. I have been trying to "heal" my hair now since an event caused this again 2 years ago. I've read many topics here and people saying to increase your protien, but I dont think this helps telogen effluvium. I am pre-op and just lost 30 lbs, and it's already starting for me. So your Dr's advice was the Biotin???
  7. ok so I am in a different boat.... I have lost 30lbs in 2 months pre-op.... AND my blood sugars are improved as well. Because I have lost weight, my family has now basically done a 180 and is NOT supporting my surgery. To me though, it's an illusion.... I have lost weight plenty of times before and it's always been temporary. It's hard though because I dont want to be one of those people who backs out of it, then a year later goes through with it and the biggest regret is not doing it the first time! My date is 4/17

    Allergic to Whey

OMG what does that taste like, ewww LOL
  10. My question is about the immediate reactions after anesthesia.... I have special circumstances because I am allergic to morphine and get highly nauseous. In the past, my operating team has given me certain meds (its a steroid) to prevent that nausea..... I also get a scopalamine patch behind the ear I also HATE being tubed and have experienced sore throats for weeks after past surgery. So when you come out of anesthesia, and you begin to throw up, how difficult is that? Can one even throw up since they just did stomach surgery????

Yes but what is egg protein? I can eat egg whites like hens are endangered. LOL
  12. Dear friends, I am going to ask my doctor directly this week coming, but what is the exact material the internal staples are made of? I am getting even conflicting info in the office (titanium vs. surgical steel). Any chance anyone has a picture of one? I can't seem to find a clear pic on google images. Has ANYONE ever had a problem with the internal staples, such as reaction or shifting etc.... How many staples can one expect to have or does that depend? Thank you for your experiences and information.

I looked at your stats. We are similar. I am 42, and we probably started with same BMI. You're a tad taller, but I weighed a tad less so I think our stats match well (I too am an EMT). Amazing transformation. Thanks for posting pics. Aside from bypass, did you work out or do a lot of exercising?

I'm new. My surgery is April 17. was browsing pics. This is an adorable photo. I love it! Glad to see someone wearing things like me. I have several friends who had bypass and they dress like weirdos. I don't get i why they dress like 80 year olds etc Thanks for sharing your pics.
  16. WOWOW sooo much information!!! Thank you all so much! I am hoping to not be on pain meds after day 1. I have bad allergies, including morphine. Being in pain for me, so sometimes better than the reactions I have to meds. So on that note, I am going to start another thread topic about anesthesia and nausea.... and if that describes you, please respond in the new topic. THANK YOU ALL And to the lady who had several surgeries including the colon resection.; OMG poor child! I am glad you made a comparison. I had a large bone graft procedure after a bone infection and my bone had crumbled/disintegrated basically inside of me. It was very painful. On another occasion, I had a gall bladder attack for 2 weeks straight before it burst and I passed out. I remember the pain and the recovery. Other occassions were ovarian cysts which SUCKED.
  17. Now this resinates with me! I am glad you reminded me of the bathroom and showering. I too am atypical. In fact, I am a high risk patient (not due to weight issues). I am soooo optimistic about the surgery (unlike the past surgeries). I have a good attitude and I want to be able to be independent by day 3 (meaning at least 24-48 hrs after coming home). Leticia Huggins - thank you too for reminding me about broth and popsicles. I am looking forward to grocery shopping the day before surgery. I have my list etc. I am so excited and yet so scared at the same time. I do not want anyone's help though in my house. My friends kind of suck to be honest. We live in a new area and my husband is gone for a while and I have no family here. I am paying a pet sitter too.
  18. Dear Newly Post Ops!! My question is on the day you get released from hospital how much help do you need?? How many days do you need help for?? I do not have kids, and will have no responsibilities except to follow my Dr's orders, and recover... Aside from monitoring me for illness or something, why exactly do I need someone to stay with me? Your experiences please? Thank you
  19. Thank you for your comments! Why exactly was it hard the days after your recovery? Was it pain, lethargy, effects of medication, orrrrr possibly you want to do your routine (like clean the house etc etc) and you cannot? I'm just trying to prepare myself.
  20. oh boy - yeah different story for me. I am sorry to hear of your prediciment with him.
  21. I looked at your profile, your stats are similar. May I ask why he's being an ass?
