Pat, I to am a "night" eatter. I've found that if I plan out my meals ahead of time it helps me curb any late night snacking. This way you're not so hungry later on during the day because you've consumed more during the day. Plus like Jachut said, it's ok to eat a peice of cake every now and again, just not the whole cake!

How sore should we be?
StrawberryGrl replied to carlasue4's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Personally I had more irritation around my incesions on my stomach then my port. My port bugged me is when I first started trying to lay on my side, cause I could feel it. Also when I first went back to work, due to it being at the same level as my desk, I fixed that though my readjusting my chair. Now though, I'm used to it so I can't even tell its there (it's been 3 weeks) I'm sure everyone's plus isn't in the exact same spot, since all of our bodies are different. So haveing some soreness after sitting all day is normal for you more then likely. Maybe try adjusting your chair or try to get up and more and walk around a bit while in the office. Just remember things can only get better from here!! Good Luck! -

First seminar tonight - excited to start!
StrawberryGrl replied to OregonHolly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on the seminar! It definitly is one of the first steps to becoming a new you!! I've been banded now for 8 days and can already tell theres a life style change all in itself. I think the change is something that you choose though, the band is an instrument to help you STOP the bad habbits we've all acquired. (at least in my opinion) Those of us who say that you can never ever eat a peice of cake or ice again are lieing because you can, its a matter of self control. I know for myself, that's what I need help with, self control! When I do something it's full force! LOL Sometimes a lil too full...With time, support, and a lot of sweat and tears you will be able to do it (and me too!!) Good Luck Holly!! -

Good Luck in your search! I'm sure everything will work out in time -
I've been hearing over and over from my docter and nurses not to drink from a straw. Something about the air that you take in going to your pouch. Is this true? I've been too scared to even get near a straw since I was banded last week. And I'm definitly one of those girly girls who has to drink threw one when I'm out at a restaurant. Has anybody been able to drink threw a straw after a bit of time or is that something that's simply off limits?

This is getting ridiculous
StrawberryGrl replied to Clairabellleee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow!! Solids in 8 days??!? I thought that was one big no no! LOL :cry -
Mine is right at the waistline but father to the right, it's almost on my side actually. So far so good for me with where it's at. The only time I notice it is when I bend over and when I turnover on my left side to sleep. I'm guessing some of this is because its been only 6 days since I was banded, so I'm probably still a little sensitive. I can't imagine haveing it at your bra line could ever be comfortable!

From 1st Consult to Surgery - how long?
StrawberryGrl replied to KMEArnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded within 6 weeks of going in for a consult. I think it makes a lot of difference on how proactive you are about everything. I didn't sit and wait for the surgeons office to make my appointments with the nutritionist, pshyciatrist, or my docter. I did everything myself within the first week! I knew that if I didn't do and do it quick I would talk myself out of it. Once my paperwork was all in it took my insurance company 3 days, yes 3 days! to send me a letter of approval. (I have the postmarks to prove it LOL) The rest of the time I spent waiting for the my surgery date to come around. Just remember to keep positive, it will happen! Good Luck!!!! -
Can you FEEL your band?
StrawberryGrl replied to jennyl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only been banded 6 days but I think I can feel my band, especially when I slouch. It may just be the fact that my stomach is still swollen but I do feel something inside me. I definitly feel my port, not so much when I'm up and active but when I'm trying to sleep on my left side! -
This is getting ridiculous
StrawberryGrl replied to Clairabellleee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Clair, I'm in the same boat with you! Have no fear! LOL I've pretty much done the same thing as you. I'm supposed to be eatting the cream Soups, yogurt, pudding and such things but have tried some different things. So far so good. I think everyone cheats, it's really really hard not to want to take a bite of what everyone else is eatting! I've been told by my own surgeon's that if I was to eat something I couldn't handle I would know right away. Luckily enough that hasn't happened nor have I tried. My own post-op is set for tomorrow also, I'm sure once we both go the feeling of nervousness will start to fade! Good Luck to you! -
:clap2:Congrats on the weightloss!!:clap2:

Questions! Presurgery odds and ends
StrawberryGrl replied to mermaidpuppy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine has actually been pretty easy. From what I can tell I'm really lucky LOL But I'm not one just to sit and heal, I'd rather be up and moving. Honestly that's what made me feel the best after surgery. It hurt more for me to be laying in the hard hospital bed then to be up walking. I also didn't like the feeling I got from taking my pain meds, so I took them when I was in pain but as soon as it subsided, stopped! When I do start to feel a little uncomfortable I sit with an ice pack on my stomach. Just remember to do everything your docter says and I'm sure you will do GREAT! -
Questions! Presurgery odds and ends
StrawberryGrl replied to mermaidpuppy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mermaid, When I had my surgery on 7/11 I was VERY concerned about the breathing tube being inserted while I was awake or wose yet me waking up with it in my mouth. My understanding is the procedure depends on the person but mostly the tub is inserted while you are already put out. Also unless you are not breathing on you own, it will be removed before you wake up. My best advice to you would be to talk to your anthesiologist (sp) in pre-op beforehand and voice your concerns. It's what I personally did, and mine was very understandable about my concern. I just knew if I woke up with it in my mouth I would automatically panic! She was great though, and told me that as long as I was breathing as I should she would definitly have it out before I woke up and she was right! I wouldn't of even known I had one in if it wasn't for the scratchy throat afterwords. I also was lucky enough to not have to be catherized. I've been told that if they would of done it, it would of been while I was asleep. My surgeon's office was very specific in that I wasn't allowed to have ANY Water after midnight the night before my surgery. I'm sure that had something to do with not needing to be cathed. I'd ask your surgeon about it though, I'm sure everyone has different practices. As for the alcohol, I'm not so sure what the effects would be on us that have been banded. I'm going assume that it wouldn't be as dramatic as someone whose had the RnY, just because it is liquid and would go right threw. At the same time it might take longer to absorb. This is just my guess though, someone whose actually been able to drink probably knows better then me! LOL Good Luck with everything! -
Having second thoughts

What part of Ohio are you from Wenonah? I know there are quite a few support groups around me. I'm just able to make most becuase they're during the day. I'm near the Dayton, OH area myself.
