    over eating 3 wks out

my nut & surgeon said no scales. You have to measure your food in a cup for the actual ounces. It seems like there are so many different "rules" for everyone. It's hard to keep track.

    Needing Help

My boyfriend & I broke up right before my surgery, too. I thought it would be harder to recover but for some reason I really didn't think of him at all for a while. Probably the morphine... Anyway, I know a lot of people have great emotional issues during & after surgery but I've been great. I have suffered from depression years, too so I was very concerned about having trouble. As of the 3rd of June, I'll be 7 weeks post op. I've lost 30 pounds, I'm more active (just bought a bike to go riding with my kiddos) and my self confidence is rising. You are going to mourn the loss of your relationship whether you have the surgery or not. If you think you can & if you have others to support you then I think you should go for it. Improving your health for you & your babies is essential.

    Post ops

I don't drink soda but my mom does & she's getting ready for surgery. She is going to try flat soda - seems like that would be gross to me but she wants the caffeine. I'm jealous of the coffee! I tried some (a small iced from Dunkin') and I hurt for 2 days & vomited for only the 2nd time ever post op. I love coffee....

    Condoments

I've used ketchup, mayo (light) and salsa without any problems.

    Hi i need help urgent.

Are you taking fiber? My nut has me on the Benefiber equivalent twice a day. Fiber supplements actually help get rid of diarrhea but definitely call that Dr!

    Alcohol

I agree with just being careful at first. I've had a couple of sips of wine & was a little buzzed. I like to drink with my friends, too so it's kind of depressing that I can't but my friends are very supportive & understanding.
  7. I just finished my first stall. It happened at week 4. I didn't realize it would happen so early. I've lost 3 pounds in 2 days now & I'm so happy. Not seeing that scale move is upsetting but I'm glad I have been on here & knew that stalls happen.
  8. I felt the same way before surgery. I was hungry & wanted "real food". I was nervous about the surgery, too I'm 33 days out & I'm feeling fairly normal except I do get super tired by the end of the week. The weeks post op of liquid food & puree are tough, too. BUT, they are worth it. I can eat real food now - VERY small amounts! I've lost 24 pounds and doing well. Can't wait to get my energy fully back, though Good luck!!

    weight loss

Don't know what you're doing for exercise but that is an option. According to my surgeon you shouldn't worry about calories. Just make sure you're eating all the protein you're supposed to and getting your fluids. I was "stalled" for about a week until 2 days ago. I added in some exercise (biking & walking) - because quite frankly, I was being lazy - and have lost 3 pounds in the past 2 days. Hope this helps.

    What are your portion sizes?

Have you lost over 30 pounds in 6 weeks? Did you stall at all or has it been consistent? I haven't lost anything in about 5 days & it's ticking me off.
  11. I'm almost 3 weeks out & ready to go onto real food. I'm nervous about which foods to eat. What has caused dumping for you? Any specific foods or drinks? Some things I was thinking: cereal, juice, etc. Thanks all!

Great Restaurant Hint: Get an Add-On!

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing
  13. I just had surgery 4/15/13. I'm outside Orlando.
  14. Try ordering an appetizer only. Maybe some chicken wings or chicken fingers. Some restaurants have awesome appetizers like crab cakes (make sure it's not too much filler, though). Just stick to an app or order a 1/2 portion. Most of those restaurants you mentioned have their menus online. Check them out before you go. This is about YOU not about what others think. P.S. My surgeon gave me a business card that says "I had bariatric surgery. Please allow me to order 1/2 portions." Quite frankly, I won't use it because it's no one's business but it does give me the idea to order 1/2 portions. Also, a friend of mine would order a meal & ask them to deliver 1/2 to her & wrap the other 1/2 before it was even brought to the table. Worked for her.

    Feeling better :)

Oh my goodness! That's not good at all. I hope your dr does something quick to help you. My dr threatened me with IV fluids again when I called to ask for the anti nausea pill. I hope you feel better soon. This is a scary time when you're trying to recover & don't feel like you're doing any better. Get well wishes for you

    Feeling better :)

6 days out of surgery & I am feeling better. I have an occasional tweak of what I'm assuming is gas pain & I don't have the endurance back yet but I am definitely feeling better. I've been up & out: grocery store, Farmer's Market, etc. Strangely enough, even though I'm still on liquids, everyone else in the house still needs to eat That first day home was really bad until my Dr prescribed an antinausea med for me. One tab & I felt so much better. I was able to get liquids down & feel better. Now I'm getting at least 2 shakes a day down & quite a bit of other liquid. Probably not the 80 ounces I'm supposed to but I'm getting there. I've had a couple of bites of motzerella cheese & some hummus. Felt good to taste something other than shakes & crystal light
  17. I'm 6 days out & I still have the most pain on my left side, too. They must do something major over there! Everyone seems to be complaining about that side! Mine isn't hard, though. Is it a small area around the incision? A large area? Hot? Red? If it's hot and or red I would definitely call the ER today.

    Well, OMG

Had my surgery on Monday 4/15/13. The whole day is a anesthesia induced blur. I don't remember leaving post-op. I woke up in the recovery room & was basically in & out of it the entire day. No pain but then I was barely conscious. My hospital stay was not so great. How are you supposed to sleep when people keep coming in all the time!? I know they need to check on patients, but damn. I did my walking but I had a lot of trouble with my breathing. I finally used the incentive spirometer and it got better within a day. I almost didn't get to go home yesterday because of a temperature. It was 100.4 at the highest. I dropped down a little but I was told I wouldn't get to go home until my temp was under 99.5. Well, I hated being in the hospital. I've rarely been so bored. So maybe I didn't put the thermometer under my tongue the next couple of times they took my temp. Just maybe.... Today is my first day home all day & I'm in more pain & have more nausea than I've had so far. I'm having a hard time getting liquids down. Even water tastes bad to me right now. Gotta say, I'm not thinking this surgery was such a good choice. I've never had a "real" surgery before so I didn't know what to expect but this sucks.
  19. I'm amazed too at all the different things the Drs have you do. I had 2 week pre-op of mostly liquids (plus 1 cup of raw veggies). Of course I cheated a few times. Post op (I'm 5 days out) is all liquids --and 3 protein shakes) but I've had very small pieces of cheese & been okay.

8 months out almost at goal

That's amazingly fast! Did you have any side effects? Congrats!

First 2 weeks post op diet help

I'm 5 days post op & I'm so sick of shakes. I couldn't even get them down yesterday. I did have a couple of bites of cheese yesterday & that went well. Try a little at a time I guess

    April 2013 Post-Op Group

Just had my surgery 3 days ago & today's my first day home. I feel like crap. I'm nauseous & everything tastes gross - even water. To say I'm regretting this would be an understatement.
  23. Hi everyone! I had my surgery on 4/15 & just waiting for my family to come get me. Day 1 was hard - some pain, hard to move & breathe without pain. I couldn't get up to walk because I was so dizzy & nauseous. Day 2 big improvement. Still some pain but not too bad. Day 3- started running a fever got up to 100.4. The hospital wasn't going to release me unless my temp came down. It's still up a little but I made sure it was low enough to let me leave. The only pain I have is when I try to roll over or bend down. So far it's not so bad today. I hope everyone is doing well!!

    Tomorrow's the day...

By this time tomorrow I should be out of surgery or darn close to it. I'm scared senseless & hoping the clock goes slowly today. I know the surgery is fairly safe & my dr has a good record but I'm still mostly scared about the surgery itself. I'm sure I'll have issues following surgery but I'm not worrying about those right now. I'll have to deal with them because there's no other choice. I just want to make sure I see my babies grow up.
  25. That's my big fear, too. I've never had general anesthesia before. My surgery is 4/15. Hope everything goes well for everyone!
