What to pack for hospital?
psvan replied to ireland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Biotene was my best friend, Had surgery at 10:30 am on Monday didn't get to drink anything until Tuesday at 2:30. My was like dust. It was my best friend and chap-stick. Otherwise you wont need a whole lot. -
May 20th my daughter and me will start on the losers bench. I can not wait to get this journey going.

Well we are finally at home! This was harder than I expected and easier if that makes sense. Today I feel almost normal. LOL The hospital we had surgury at was horrible. But... we made it and that is all that counts. I seem to be doing pretty good but my daughter is having a harder time. The doctor said it was common in his experience the 20-30 have a harder time with recovery. He said they have had less experience of things happening to their body and their mind isnt as used to pain. Hmmm I thought my daughter would do better than the old me. LOL. I havent felt hungry and that is so suprizing to me. The amount of time before I could have anything to drink in the hopsital seemed like an eternity. I had Surgury on May 20th at 9:30 am. I didnt get to drink anything until the 21st at 2:20 pm. UGGG but Thanks to this board I was ready. I am so thankful people suggest biotene. I would not of made it with out that and the sponges on a stick. Oh well. I am excited to see the scale start going down. Kinda depressing to see that I am 10 lbs heavier today than I was when I checked into the hospital. I know its because of all the fluids and it will go fast. Just hard to see all your hard work gone. Oh well Thank you everyone for your support and prayers. And if you havent had the sugury out there, hang tough you can do it. Dont question it. Even on the second day when you wish you were dead. It will be worth it I am sure and once you start feeling better it comes on fast.

I don't think we have to do the bowel prep but we have our last meeting with surgeon tomorrow. Maybe we do. Just have to wait and see.

Well today I start my one week liquid diet. I am so excited for surgery next Monday. But... nervous over this pre-op diet. Have been reading lots of people really struggling with it. Just ready for next Monday to be here.

It will be here before we know it! -
Ok so I have passed the psych evaluation. Now wait for her to give the report to my doctor so they can send it off to get approval from the insurance. I am nervous they wont approve it. But so ready to have it done. My daughter and me are having it done together. I think that is going to help us alot. We will know what each other is feeling and can help support each other. We live in the same household so will make it easier with meals. My husband is worried I am going to starve him. LOL. But he is really supportive of our decision. We have our final diet class on the 25th explaining the pre-surgery diet and such. I love being on this forum. It has helped me so much to be informed. The Dr's and Nurses said that I am the best informed patient they have ever had. That is because of the wonderful people here at RNY. Thanks for all the encouragement and advice you all give.

Smaller sizes needed badly

See if you have a freecycle.com in your area. You may find some there or check craigs list in your area under the free section. You can even post a need. -
I did go to the web site and check him out with the medical board. There has only been 2 things filed against him, both was for inaccurate record keeping and it was settled with $1000 fine and a class for 8 hours on record keeping. But that was like in 1996 so a long time ago. Thanks everyone for the great advice.

Ok, I need some advice. Today was my fist consultation with my dr. It went great. The ball is rolling. They called insurance and we dont need alot of pre stuff done. Just the NUT and psych eval. So was really excited. Said they could probably get surgery in about 5-6 weeks. I was so afraid after reading alot of posts about how long the process can take. Anyways, I went to work after appointment and talked to my boss about what I was doing. He said it was fantastic but wanted me to call someone and talk to them. When I called this individual i found out that they had this person as their doctor and had gastric by pass surgery from him. Something went terribly wrong and he spent 9 months in the hospital and is now paralyzed. (On an good note the by pass has helped him lose over 150 lbs even with being paralyzed). Here is my problem, The only other doctors that are in network is 2 hrs away. Do I go to someone else? What would you do? Its easy with this guy, he didnt require 6 months of diet before surgery etc. I am afraid if I go to someone else that the process will take a lot longer. Now this was about 3 years ago and I did check him out with the bbb and he is a bariactric center of excellence. I asked him how many surgerys he had done, he said over 200 by passes, over 300 lap bands and about 250 gastric sleaves. I know everyone is human and can make mistakes. Without knowing what caused the problem with the surgery how do I decide what to do? This gentleman was over 500lbs and he would only say on the phone that the dr shouldnt of opperated on him. So...... What would you do???? Any thoughts?

Well we just go done with the Dr. He was great. We are going to do the gastric bypass. They called insurance United Health Care and there is really no post op stuff they need done. We qualify for the bmi. So.... We did blood work today to find out if we had the bacteria in our stomaches. Next week on the 4th we have our NUT consult and then on the 10th we have our Psych Eval. Then its sent to insurance for approval letter. I am so excited!!!!!! Cant wait.
