Hello all. I had gastric bypass RNY on March 20, 2013. My highest weight was 349 (11/12) and I got down to 306 by the morning of surgery. My previous BMI was 46 and I have high blood pressure and borderline cholesterol. So far everything has been great. Had a lot of gas pain at the beginning but its getting better. Been working hard on getting my Protein and fluids in. Just wanted to introduce myself!

Getting all the protein
Chefchrisp replied to wonderwoman75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've done that, and as long as you don't put too much cottage cheese in, it's perfect. I put too much in once and the cottage cheese kinda melted in the eggs and made it runny. It wasn't good. -
Extreme pain. Please help!

Is it on the right side just below your ribcage? It could be gallbladder. That flares up if you eat greasy/fatty foods. -
restless leg syndrome
Chefchrisp replied to AmandaPoplin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That could be my problem. I was only taking 1 calcium pill in the AM & 1 in PM but I was supposed to be taking 2 in AM, midday & PM. I've upped it but still have restless legs. Maybe I've gotta give it more time. -
No sneezing, but I am tasting magnesium citrate for the first time on the day prior to surgery.

Has anyone tried the Organix Biotin & Collagen shampoo/conditioner? I have been using it about a week now but haven't noticed anything yet.

Post Op Weight loss?
Chefchrisp replied to coolnessa22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 14 according to the doctors scale, wearing jeans, multiple layers & a jacket. Normally I weigh in only wearing shorts & a tshirt. I was probably down 18-20 if you account for all the layers. -
And to add to that.... I am still a happy person like before. Just because I don't like food anymore doesn't mean I don't like all the other great things in my life.

I kind of understand what you are saying/asking. Im only 3 weeks out so I'm not sure what it will be like in the future. I'm a trained chef and LOVE food. Since surgery I've bad no appetite and could care less about food. I used to find happiness in food, trying new things, going out to eat but now I'm more like "meh" to food.

I'm not alone! I had surgery on 3/20 and mine kicked in about a week later. It was so bad that I thought I may have had a blood clot and had to go in for labs and an ultrasound. I'll ask my doc in about 2 weeks at my 6 week appointment. -
What ya eating tonight?

I attempted a turkey burger. Took 1 bite and my stomach was killing me. Gave it an hour and switched to protein shake. -
My doctor used to tell people no drinking from a straw (like 2+ years ago) because of gas/air. They have since found that it doesn't really make a difference and they now allow them.

I wouldn't do it. It's a big change and we went through a lot to get to this point AND we've got to keep doing a lot to succeed. Just stick it out!

Every surgeon has a different diet plan. I was allowed jello, pudding and cream soups starting the day after surgery. IMO it's not worth rushing ahead to try something not in your plan. I've seen 3 people who had surgery in March like me and skipped ahead and were eating "real" food - French fries, soda. They all got strictures and they aren't even a month out.

March 2013 Post Op "A New Life 2013"
Chefchrisp replied to ElleG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks out now (3/20 surgery date) and have lost 20 pounds! But I've also been in a 1.5 week plateau. Ugghh. I know it will pass I just want to see the scale move again! -
I had surgery on 3/20 and since I've had maybe 6 BMs, all have been black and very soft but not loose. I read that the first one or two could be normal due to blood in intestine from surgery but it should go back to normal. I also read that continued black stool could be a sign of internal bleeding in the upper GI. I'm going to call tomorrow but wanted to hear others experiences.

Thanks. I'm calling first thing in the AM and offices are only 10 minutes from me. -

I've only tried the magi peach flavor, but that sh*t was HORRIBLE. Huge waste of $5. -
Creamy tomato soup
Chefchrisp replied to crazedteacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan called for creamy Soups the day I went home (1 day post). I found a cream of tomato and ate that with a scoop (ok... Like a teaspoon) of ricotta cheese (also approved). It was like a gourmet Italian dinner minus the Pasta. I'm now 10 days post and the other things I'm allowed are sugar free pudding, SF Jello, melted cheese, broth, puréed baby foods including meats. -
How many pounds to new pants?
Chefchrisp replied to groovykg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took 50 lbs before I went from a 42 to a 40. -

1oz of refried beans and a little sprinkle of cheese tonight. -
I want to get "control yourself, take only what you need from it" on my side/rib cage. Kind of a reminder to eat well, have control, use food for nutrition not pleasure.

Crying while watching people eat
Chefchrisp replied to Lauri M's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 days post and have had zero hunger. I've been out to 2 bbqs too and didn't even care about the food that was there. I know everyone is different but for me I've had no problems with food cravings.
