What ya eating tonight?
Nel replied to OleHippieGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and I had warmed slow roasted roast beef heated in the micro. I'm having a love affair with roast beef lunch meat at the moment. I haven't found a protein I can't eat yet. 2 oz with 1/2 a motz stick melted on it. -

I think I have the coolest pouch ever, also. Mine has gotten sick off eggs *early out but can tolerate now* and avocado. Only. -
I take two celebrate pineapple strawberry vitamins a day and 2 of the caramel 500 and chocolate 250 chewy bites from bariatric advantage. I also take a 50,000 vitamin d once a week.

You're losing. No worries. And both of those are slider foods. *I consider cheese as one since it becomes pretty much liquid paste when you chew it* How much dense Protein can you eat?
-
You need to measure and stick to the exact amounts your dietitian says. *just my opinion* Period. You don't have the same nerve endings in your stomach right now. So you won't feel full. I don't ever feel full....and I don't ever feel hungry. I religiously weigh. I use a scale I bought at walmart. It will be a year or more before you've fully healed. Some don't have the sensation of fullness even after that.

someone please give me hope.

And yes to the heat. I was told to use one. And I agree that you should call the surgeon. Tell them your symptoms and ask for stronger meds. -

it's normal. My back hurt like crazy because I don't sleep on my back but I had to for weeks after surgery. I don't think I got to sleep on my side comfortably for over a month. We have a few on here that like to brag that they never had any gas or problems or pain...but really. Most of us did. It's perfectly fine and normal. Put it in perspective. You have 5 to 6 holes cut in you. Then big stick things and a camera probing around while a doctor cut apart your stomach, shove it to the side, perfected your new pouch, pulled up intestine, cut it in half, and then stitched it to the two pieces all while that camera person tunneled away inside of you. THEN it was filled with air, checked for leaks, thoroughly checked over, equipment removed and stitched or glued shut. I ask you: Who wouldn't hurt after that?! So yes, maybe a suppository and gas x for the gas pressure. Maybe calling the doctor and saying this med isn't effective. I had percocet. It worked well for me. And then rest. -
Your husband sounds like the 2nd one that he accused you of being with and I'm not talking about Tom and Sally. Mine was a bit intimidated when I told him I was getting this done. It became all about him. What was HE going to eat and would I still cook for HIM. And on and on...but honestly, I think he was more worried I'd make a decision that I would regret. Men don't voice emotions well. For them it's all about shouting and here's my favorite that gets my back up. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. When he starts off a sentence with, "Know what you should do?" I always reply, No daddy, I don't! I'm 38 and I have no idea how to handle life. Tell me. Go on, tell me what I should do and then I'll tell YOU what you CAN do. I know it's rough right now and you have kids, that makes it harder. I couldn't live like that with all that going on...then again, I'm super confrontational and get my back up quick. I have a quick mouth and little regrets when I tell a man, I don't need you. I didn't need you when we got together and I don't need you now. I like you here and love you, so I'd like you to stick around, but never ever mistake that for need. everyone handle confrontation differently. I do hope you stand up for yourself. It's no fun being someones verbal punching bag all the time.

Dr's are different. Mine said ground meats with no restrictions at 6 weeks and at 7 I started lunch meats. I can't have uncooked veggies or anything with a peel. I'm not supposed to eat anything with large seeds. That's it. So, her dietitian might have given her one, but it might have been as ambiguous as mine. I'm constantly messaging and asking questions. Oh and my list said, "pineapple, prunes, dried fruits and high sugar can cause dumping. Use with caution" or something to that effect. -
I tell everyone that asks. I'm not ashamed to need help and I firmly put people in their place when they have negative comments.I want anyone that is thinking of a choice like this, to come to me and ask if they have questions or are interested in this step. I couldn't lose it alone....I did for years...but as I got older it got so much harder! I can understand keeping it private though. I think as with most issues with your body, it's your choice whom you'd like to know things. The boards are always here and we understand!

Can't get over the mental hunger
Nel replied to anm1063's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The mental hunger sucks. I had a longing...craving...obsession with the new Wendy's Asiago wrap. I finally had my mister go get one. I took one look at it and said, "I can live without that". It was NOTHING like the commercial. Other things I've also done is take one taste. Just a taste. Usually whatever I'm craving, doesn't even taste that good. It does get better. You do get more adept at dealing. I'm new still....but the first couple of weeks SUCKED. -
I'm starting to think I have the coolest pouch ever. I've only thrown up once, it handles all meat I've tried well. The only thing it hasn't liked it avocado. I'll try that again later.

That stuff has that c stuff in it. You won't absorb that. I've been told to stay away from the shots.

1.5 oz meatloaf and 2 teaspoons of loaded mashed potatoes *instant* I put salt, onion, garlic powder and a little ketchup in lean ground chuck. Then baked it. I put the potatoes on top after the meatloaf was done. It's tender and delightful. I didn't add extra sauce after since sugar scares me. -
Mine were glued with steristrips. At two weeks when they started coming off, they were closed and all. I kept one on for 4 weeks though. Never any issues with them.
-
No, that's ridiculous. I have no idea. I've never heard that before and I was told you'd lose most of your weight during the honeymoon phase and that would be 6 months to a year. If you had 145 pounds to lose...that would mean you'd have to lose 49 POUNDS A MONTH. Who loses that? Nobody. Maybe he accidentally said the wrong thing.
-
I've been told that "water loading" for us is to drink a glass or two of water before you eat once we have a mature pouch. It helps us feel fuller. It's not downing 7 glasses or anything. I really doubt it would cause electrolyte imbalance.
-
Agreed, my surgery also took away all my pouches feelings. It couldn't care less if it ever eats. I'm so sorry you're sick. Your weight loss is good...but I agree. sometimes it just doesn't seem worth it.
-
Oh no, why? I have big bumps under my arms they say is staph. What did you get?
-
I am totally freaked out by this oral suspension medicine. I know it has sugar. I know the doc was trying to be nice to my pouch...but I'm worried if I take this, I'll dump. I've got a call in to my doctor now. ugh.
-
Okay, UPDATE: I went in and it wasn't my lymph nodes. Shows how much I know! She thinks it's staph. GROSS. I'm on antibiotics and I have to use that hibiclens stuff again. If this is the only complication I get, that's fine. But still...it's SO SUPER PAINFUL!
-
Ugh, I woke up this morning and both underarms are swollen and tender. I can see big lumps from my lymph glands. I called the surgeon and he said to get into my regular doctor. I don't have a high fever, just a slight one. I hope it's not from an infection or something. I go in at 9.
-
I went back at three weeks. Could have gone back at 2 though. No worries.
-
Also, if it all hits your small intestine too soon, you can dump.
