7 Days remaining until the big day...so nervous. What did you guys do to calm down?
Nel replied to love_delgado's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made a list of all the things I hated about obesity and what I had to look forward to in my future...like knee replacements and mobility issues. And I'd read it when I freaked out. -
I usually hit between 60-80. I need to check with my dietitian and surgeon at my 6 month.

Apprehensive About the Surgery
Nel replied to Michele Brischetto's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're going to be fine. I had the the palete of a toddler for so long...just filling that void in my stomach...now I taste food. I taste flavors. I hate bread and rice. I love spicy. I now eat feta out of the container...this surgery actually opened up my eating and cooking life. I'm not hungry, I can only eat a small amount, it has to be good. Period. Or I'm just not going to eat it. So, I think you'll find that cooking and all that open up for you. I now find myself disgusted while watching people literally shove food in their mouth and swallow it whole before gorging on a full plate of food. Gross. I realize I was like that....but it's just so gross. -
Is my weight loss too slow for 6 weeks post op?
Nel replied to svhonda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm certainly not an expert on weight loss and the schedules, let me just say: I've lost 105 in about 6 months. Not six months yet...Oct 1 is my six month anniversary. I worried about my weight loss constantly. I'd only lose 2 pounds in a week or I'd plateau for 3 weeks straight....it was so horribly up and down emotional crap. But pretty much everyone in the April group has lost pretty much the same amount. From what I can tell most are at 100 pounds. We lost it at different times...some lost a ton in the beginning...others like me did it steady...This surgery WILL make you lose weight. Just follow the plan, listen to your body and relax. You will succeed. I'd failed with my weight for so long..I had SUCH a bad image of myself in my head...I just knew I'd fail at this too. I did. I KNEW I'd fail. But I didn't. I followed the plan and it's all fine. You won't fail either. Anyway...just my experience. -
I'm at 6 months and feel the same.

I don't remember. As soon as my diet plan said I could have ground meat. Before that it was baked refried beans with cheese and sour cream.
-
I might try a few sips then. It's the day after my 6 month appointment with my surgeon, so I'll be sure to seek his advice first. I almost wish I did dump, dori! I've seriously found nothing that's made me sick. I grazed on dry caramel cherrios and felt a bit nauseous later...so maybe?

not losing weight!im gaining!
Nel replied to Mommy3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
are you weighing at the same place each time? I weigh every single morning in my bathroom. Naked. After I pee. Right before my shower. So: same time, place and situation. -
It gets better. I'm munching on almonds and cheez-its (I'm not saying that's a good thing...I'm just being honest). I'm almost 6 months out. I've never been as sick as I was on the egg. Put it into perspective of what that stomach and intestines have been through. You'll realize that four weeks is nothing. As mentioned above, just focus on the weight loss and enjoy it. Right now you're divorced from food. I didn't attempt eating out until after 4 months at least. Except wendys chili. I was doing that way sooner.

And the standard: if it's painful or you have any other symptoms you should call your surgeon. Always better safe than sorry.

Gas X and a suppository. You could try a mild stool softener or drink Miralax. I do the miralax thing. Sometimes twice a day. My doc also told me I could take a stool softener AND drink miralax. If all that happens to me after this is a chronic case of constipation....I guess that's fine.

Me too. I can't do the egg scene and all my tastes are off. I can eat feta straight from the pack, I love yogurt and blueberry anything. I hate bread and rice. I don't think I'll ever eat those again while they used to be my favorite things ever. I do dig cheez-its though. The Zingz especially. Should I be eating that? Probably not, but I've lost 102 pounds in less than 6 months. I'll eat a cheez-it or small blueberry muffin if I want to. I don't have any issues with sugar, fat or foods.

I think it's funny that we were all worried we couldn't do this...and now we're all pretty much at 100 pounds lost, give or take a few. How many of us have tried alcohol? I ask because we have the 50th annual wine fest next month. It would be nice to sample a few. But I don't know. I'm fine without it and I wouldn't mind drinking water. I'm not a dumper. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. :X I've been keeping busy with exercise classes and taking classes. I took 12 hours over the summer...and I'm in 9 now. After this semester I'll finally be a senior. I'm sorry if it seems like I haven't been following the boards. I really have been, I just haven't been posting much.

Insurance declined. Must self pay - who else has?
Nel replied to rlm34's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I paid $12,000 and my insurance paid $4000. I have no regrets....even though I'll be paying it off for a while. -
I go for grilled chicken and toss the bun. I'll even do jr cheeseburgers and just toss the bun. I eat Chick-fil-a grilled nuggets and Wendy's chili. Nothing from Taco Bell. I do have my mister get extra mild sauce. I put it on beans and meat at home and it makes authentic Taco Bell tasting food I can actually eat. The fruit and yogurt parfait at McDonald's. I've eaten a few fried chicken strips. Popeyes has naked chicken too.

I've not tried to eat a piece of cake....but I've had bites of it and sugar doesn't bother me. I'm a little over 5 months out. I've tried just about everything except for lettuce. I don't have issues with any food that I can find. I can eat milk and all that. I've got like the super pouch attached to the super system. It's a bit scary. I've eaten several blueberry muffins. I do watch the sugar in stuff...but really...I'm kinda bad with my eating. I do justify it by eating healthy and right over 80% of the time. So yeah, you might be able to eat some cake.

I'm a size lower than I've been in almost two decades...and the other day I wore some new pants for the first time. I had to unbutton them to get them down to pee! Usually I just pull em straight down. I have a WAIST

I don't remember. I will tell you this. I'm at 5 1/2 months and I've lost 100. I kept thinking in the beginning that this wasn't going to work for me, I was going to fail at another weight loss attempt, I'm going to be fat forever, my body hates me, I hate my body blah blah blah. I stressed and worried and asked people if they thought I was losing enough....we're all different and I don't think any of us will ever feel we're losing enough or as much as others and so on. BUT: I've lost 100 pds. I couldn't do that on my own. I've done it in less than 6 months and chances are, you probably will too. Or at least comparable to that. I've been watching all my April post op buds and we're all pretty much about the same *give or take a few* So, I guess them rambling post was just a "don't worry about it. You and your body are going to be fine and if you've lost any...it's working". Hope that helps

when can you start drinking decaf coffee?
Nel replied to seriousaboutme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same for me. I had a whole caffeine cycle going on. Once I quit...I sleep better. I stay awake through the day better. My attention seems better. I'm done with the caffeine. -
Danon light and fit I eat about 4-5 containers a day. It's my main protein source.
-
I have my mister pick up extra taco bell mild sauce. I put it on pretty much what you made and it's my fast food fix,

Family acting different since surgery...
Nel replied to Harwood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This sucks for you. I'm sorry it's happening. My main point is for your husband though. It's his family? Why isn't he handling this? Why is he not defending his wife and doing the talking to? If my mom was rude to my husband, I go straight to her. He made a choice when he married you. That choice included protecting you from the sizeist jealous witches. Seriously, you were willing to risk life and serious lifelong complications for surgery. They continue to make bad food choices and be rude to you. They're hateful and fine, whatever. You can't change that. But your husband could and SHOULD change that. How is it okay for them to talk about your weight....but you not talk about it? and how is it fair that they can comment about your appearance...yet you can't on theirs? I'd be a bitch and start asking if they wanted my fat clothes? *whilst holding up a size 12* and then say...oh yeah....I guess that won't work, huh? And stuff like that. It's rude what they're doing and it's vicious what your mister is allowing. I'm sorry, it's just my opinion. I apologize if it's blunt. I just feel that situation is crap. Just stay away from them. Poison. -
Heavier.

I personally wouldn't do it this soon out from surgery. If I did, it would be wine. Not hard liquor. I'm 5 months out and I haven't risked it yet. Be careful. Supposedly it hits you hard and fast. Please make sure you have a ride home.
