  1. Hi! I am working toward a band revision to a bypass. I had a sharp pain in my stomach and if anything at all uncomfortable with my stomach happens I think it's due to the band. I would like to know if anyone has experienced what it is like to have a band slip? Also since I am losing weight to prepare for the bypass I know my stomach is getting smaller. Would that cause any discomfort? I know I am overreacting, but I would ease my fears if someone could describe what a band slip would feel like. Thanks everyone!
  2. Recently I had asked my surgeon to allow me to use my band prior to surgery. He agreed and scheduled me for a fill. The clinic I am using called me to say that if I filed with my insurance for my fill then they would not cover my Gastric Bypass. Apparently my insurance will only cover one WLS a lifetime. Obviously I already had a WLS. I used my father's insurance to have surgery and did not use my personal insurance at all. The clinic called to say there is a chance that now my personal insurance might not cover the procedure, because it is a revision. This set me into a panic thinking that I might not actually have this surgery. I took it upon myself to call the insurance and confirm this. I was told that the revision would not effect them paying of my GB, because I hadn't use them for the Lapband. The Patient Advocate at the clinic said there is no way to know if that is true until I complete the steps to get authorized. I don't really trust what the Patient Advocate is saying, because she has given me a lot of false information already. Basically, I am wanting to know if anyone had issues with their insurance turning them down because they have previously had Lapband surgery before having a Gastric Bypass?
  3. Hi everyone! I pre op and working to lose 80 pounds before surgery. I've been doing very well on the pre op diet the NUT gave me, but last night I had a family emergency and broke down for a bacon cheese burger, fries, and a soda. One of the reasons I have chose RNY over the sleeve is because I do want the dumping syndrome. I am curious as to what would happen if I gave into that temptation post op?
  4. I've already decided to not spill the Beans to every person I meet on the street. However, I am happy to tell friends and family. What do you guys say when an acquaintance asks how you've lost so much weight so fast? I don’t want to lie, but I don’t want to share my privacy with others I wouldn’t normally confide in. How do you all explain the weight loss to outsiders?

List of Band to Bypass Patients

Thanks, pebulz! The doctor said the revision from the band to the RNY is a higher risk and would cost more, but didn't go into anymore details. I hadn't put to much thought into the idea of there being a higher risk. I'll have to get more information when I visit with him. I need to make a list if questions about the risks of band revision to a RNY so I can be better prepared next time.

List of Band to Bypass Patients

Hi I am new to the board and so grateful to find this thread. I was banded in February 2006 and am now going through the process of a Gastric Bypass. I had minor problems with the band and never used it because I was too scared. I weigh over 400 pounds now and I am wanting to do something permeant that will get a lot of weight off. My first appointment with the surgeon was two weeks ago and all he mentioned was that there was a bigger risk with the revision. So glad to hear other's stories!
