  1. I am 7 years post op and still have struggles with this even now. You have to get to the root of your relationship with food, which is usually an underlying issue that is not food related so you know how to keep in check with your mood, feelings, attitude, and choices around food. I knew I could not do this alone so I a check in about once a month or more if I need it with the barbaric counselor where I had my surgery done. There I am able to air where I am struggling with food and we are able to discuss tools for my continued success.
  2. I am 7 years post op and I use Veganaise. It is found in the refrigerator section of the natural food dept at your local grocer. It does not have all the fat and it tastes better than mayo. It is a vegetable product and so it easily digests. They have different kinds and I use the original. I also use mustards and avocado and have even must mixed my tuna and boiled eggs together with a little salsa.
  3. I am 7 years post op and have gained a few pounds back which is normal for so many years out. I love that I had surgery and would do my RnY bypass again. What I am wanting to know from people who are a couple of years out is what you do when you gain? What do you do to keep from gaining? Do any of you use weight watchers or Atkins or any other program to keep you on track? Thanks for your help!
  4. My now ex husband and I both had surgery 6months apart. He had his first. We divorced about a year later because we realized as smaller people we did not have the same common interests and while he was loosing weight because he had his surgery before mine he met a woman who did share those things with. It was a tough situation but overall for the best.
  5. Hi there, I remember those days like they were yesterday. I am 7 years post op and would be happy to correspond with you about all of this. I needed a big support team when I first started, its a lot to handle and take on. Feel free to message me anytime!

    Is My pouch stretched?

I am 7 years post op from my gastric bypass surgery. I am able to consume much more than I was able to in the begining. I see my surgery team regularly (2-3 times a year) to keep on track, be reminded of the correct way to live as a gastric bypass patient, and to make sure my vitamins ect are all where they need to be. I was told the pouch does not stretch, however there are many causes to weight gain (I have gained about 60lbs in the past 7 years) and prevent weight loss after surgery so I work closley with my surgery team. Grazing is a huge no-no and I am guilty of it. Eating ANYTHING that is not on the perscribed list of foods is a no-no and just sends you right back to old habits and ways of eating. Drinking fluid to soon after your meal or with your meal is not a good thing, the fluid pushes the food out of your pouch where you get the satisfied full feeling and leaves you being able to put more food into your body. Not eating protein first everytime you eat will leave you feeling unsatisfied and will not keep you full until the next time you eat (it takes 3-4hrs to proccess protien in your body). You have to keep good habits and follow the rules even if you don't have dumping like most of us do when we eat foods our pouch doesn't like. Just because you can eat it doesn't mean that you should. If you want to loose the rest of your weight to reach your goal you need to instill a new way of eating and relationship with food.
