    How long

I can't have alcohol till after a year. My family has a low tolerance to alcohol (five out of seven of us are alcoholics) so I don't drink much for that reason. I do like an occasional glass of wine. I was told that with rny you will feel the effects of alcohol faster, get intoxicated on less, and it stays in your system longer (a proven fact). All those things are bad, especially for me, so I may give it up completely. No one has said this to me but I have another reason why I wouldn't want to be drinking, ESPECIALLY while healing. Alcohol impairs judgment and even a little bit can make you not think about what you are doing. I would be afraid of eating or drinking too much too fast, not chewing thoroughly, or eating something I shouldn't. Any of those things would have painful consequences. Even if you don't give up alcohol forever it's best to abstain for whatever amount of YOUR doctor recommends. And your family and friends will benefit from having a designated driver! :-)
  5. Sounds like he's definitely a keeper. We've been married 31 years this week but I don't think my hubby would be THAT helpful. Lol

    Medical Alert Bracelet

That's my first thought too. You could also wear it on a chain around your neck. Even if it was obvious no one would need to know WHY you can't have nsaids. It could be because of allergies, ulcers, or other medical reasons. All anyone needs to know if they ask is your doctor says you can't take nsaids.
  8. I am still in the pre-auth phase but I have a couple questions: I was wondering how soon you can shower after surgery? I can cope with ANYTHING if I can only shower each morning. How soon did you return to work? I'm planning on taking two weeks off. (I have four weeks sick time saved up).

    Clothing Size Wishes

I bet you love being called itty-bitty too! Lol
  10. I was hoping my doctor could remove mine at the same time. I'm going to talk to him again. I found out I had gallstones two years ago when I got an x-ray for back pain. had my first gallbladder attack last august (that's PAIN) and actually had an appointment to see a surgeon to get it removed this past January. When I decided on WLS shortly after, I cancelled that appointment. I wish I could get it removed at the same time, like some people have done. I mean, it's in the same general area and they're in there already, why not?

    Clothing Size Wishes

I would LOVE to be that size! But I'm also over fifty and itty-bitty like you may not be in my future. Lol Who knows what my future may hold! :-)
  12. I hope everyone makes out okay. After reading about the troubles some of you are having I'm kind of glad I have no family around other than hubby and grown kids. My hubby's worried about me but going along with it and my daughters are supportive. I am keeping my surgery from my husband's family (all are very opinionated). My mother-in-law comes over on occasion but never comes in the house (hubby calls her the "drive-by grandma"). I think hiding it will be no problem! She thinks my husband working out and eating healthy is a fad and always asks when he's going to eat 'normal' again. Lol

    time table

I got insurance approval within a few days of my doctor submitting it (about a week ago). They can't schedule my surgery until after I complete all the requirements. I have my Nurse Education class Monday which covers everything pre and postop, and goes over all the risks of surgery. My husband has to go with me as my caregiver... I really hope he doesn't freak out. He's a natural worrier. My program also requires three consecutive weeks of workshops. April's were full so I had to wait for May. I'm hoping I can get my date after the Nurse Ed appt. They said it COULD be as early as the day after my last workshop, as long as my doctors schedule permits. I hope.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

With summer coming that's a biggie! We can wear open toed shoes in my bank but only if your toes are done.
  15. I have been very very impressed with them. The staff made all my appointments for me and did their best to work within my schedule. They are informative, easy to talk to, and respond quickly to my calls. My only delay has been due to the April workshops being full. I complete those in May. It's easy to get to and after my appts I go to Wareham Crossing to shop!
  16. I keep finding myself hitting the stores to look at small clothes. Is anyone else doing this? In my discussions with my Psychiatrist we discussed previous weight losses and what I hope to get out of WLS surgery. I told her that aside from good health and to feel good I would be happy to reach a size 14. She said to me "Oh I am sure you will get smaller than that." I am 4'11" but size 14 is the smallest I ever got in my failled weight losses since having children (14's were breif visits between my sz 20's and 22's). I was flabbergasted! Could I REALLY get smaller than that? So now I go to petite sections of clothing stores all over the place looking through racks and racks of 14's and 12's, and daydreaming of someday actually buying them. I feel guilty, like I am tresspassing, and I don't belong there. I keep waiting for a salesperson to direct me to the plus-size section. The longing I'm feeling for those smaller clothes is so INTENSE! That is what I dream about... And I also dream about fitting comfortably on the back of my husband's Harley!

    Bad night

I haven't had the surgery yet but I came across a suggestion that someone had while I was doing my research. This girl (a nurse) was having trouble getting in protein after her surgery. She hated the shakes so she tried and liked this: buy choc or vanilla whey protein isolate powder and mix it into sugar free pudding (she put choc powder in choc pudding, etc - mixing similar flavors together helped disquise the taste). She also said the unflavored protein was perfect to add to creamy Soups or pureed foods. I plan to give it a try when my time comes next month.
