How much fluid weight did you gain while in hospital?
terry1118 replied to bloreorbust's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 12. A week after surgery it was gone and I was back to what I weighed day of surgery. :-) I'd read about weight gain from IV fluids here so I wasn't surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised. Lol It goes away quickly and then the REAL weight loss starts! :-) -
Things I will not miss...

Mine are gone. Yours will go away too! :-) -
I can see my toes... and paint them. I can put on my socks and tie my sneakers. I can play with my energetic little dog (who has taught me to fetch Lol) I can bend over and straighten up again without back pain. I can work all day and still have energy when I get home. I can change my clothes in the front seat of my jeep (don't ask, Lol) I can go upstairs and not need to recover from the trip. I can't wait to see what else I can do as time goes on... :-)

Things I can do now...

Practical, true! And satisfying. :-) I'm too old to party all night and I can't stay up that late anyway. I just want to feel good and enjoy my life! -

Question about complications
terry1118 replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need a catch phrase like yours. Lol But in the absence of a catch phrase I think I'll use a smiley face. It's sort of my signature trademark... I always put a smiley face near my name. :-) -
I love spicy foods. I like spicy red pepper humus and spicy refried beans. Horseradish cheddar, pepper jack cheese, and turkey chili w/cayenne pepper or jalapeños, too. So far it doesn't bother me but I don't eat these things every day. I'm trying for more variety in my food. :-)

I drink protein shakes with a straw. I find it easier to get it down. I try to be aware of how fast I'm drinking and space out my sips. It's painful if I drink too much too fast.

Protein shake. Time got away from me and I forgot to eat. I don't eat solid food this late and the shake will put me over the top of my protein goal for the day. :-) -
Don't know if I would say that exactly, but I do prefer fitting in smaller and smaller clothes. Lol One concern I have about alcohol is my decision making when drinking. I have a very low tolerance to alcohol and have always been a cheap date. :-) I tend to eat when I drink and I'm afraid I would eat the too much or the wrong things and have to suffer the consequences (pain, nausea, vomiting). No thank you!

If you make your own pudding pops you can mix it per the instructions. It's been a long time but I think I used a half cup less milk? Either way they're fine. Try mixing some fat free cool whip in and freeze it. It's like frozen mousse. :-)

Question about complications
terry1118 replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Meant to also say I have had zero complications. I'm doing great, quick recovery, quick return to work, no lack of energy or anything. Just an occasional issue with food sticking, most times my own fault. And so far not a peep from the gallstones I know I have... Next year I'm planning to have my gallbladder removed - I feel as if it's a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off. -

Sounds normal. I was nauseous a lot in the beginning. Everything smelled funny or tasted funny. That gets better after a month or so. Just drinking was a challenge. My tastes in flavors changed constantly - one week I'd like crystal light peach tea and then it would turn my stomach and I'd try another flavor. Most were too sweet so I would either use a larger container or use half of the packet. My current favorite is 4C green tea. Who knows what I'll be drinking next? Your initial weight loss goes fast and in the first week or so a lot of your loss includes IV Fluid weight from the surgery.

My husband likes it. I eat a little piece, he eats the rest. So much for leftovers! :-) -
Mine can't cook to save his life. He once tried to melt some shredded cheese on a burger when I went out. When I came home he asked me "What the heck kind of cheese is that that won't melt?" I took a look at it and answered "Coconut"! Yup! He's a keeper! Lol

One Week post op appointment and soft foods
terry1118 replied to Princess Sarah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Foods I tolerate well are greek yogurt, tilapia, salmon, scrambled eggs, pea soup w/ham, chili, cheese, meatballs if they're moist, shrimp, chowder, hummus, and Peanut Butter. Fish has been my 'safe' food - it rarely bothers me. Foods that make me painfully sick are tuna (three miserable times - I'm giving it up for a while), pot roast chopped in the food processor and moistened w/broth, wonton soup, re-heated anything, and pills bigger than a small tablet. Everyone is very very different. Introduce new foods slowly, small bites and chew-chew-chew, and learn to recognize when to stop. One last little bite will mean the difference between satisfied and suffering. Always follow your own doctor's advice. We all can give advice but your doctor knows YOU better than we do. :-) -
Definitely a visible difference! You're looking good! :-)

How about some NSVs!?!?
terry1118 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love being able to buy something because I like it. I used to buy anything based solely on fit. With way more choices available I can afford to be choosy. So happy lately! :-) -

Tilapia fillet. I could eat it every night! :-) -
Four days with my food log, so far. I'm liking it. Some days I'm eating more than I thought and getting more protein. Today I thought I didn't eat enough but my food log says I got 850 calories and 60 gr of protein. I was surprised. I can see how this can be a good thing. :-)
