    Anyone having trouble with friends?

A real friend would care about you and be considerate of your feelings. She would do whatever they could to help you on your way to good health, even if it meant finding new things to do for a while. Perhaps she may be having issues of her own you are unaware of? If you want to give your friendship a chance you could try being patient with her. Continue to invite her to do non-alcohol and food activities with you but don't give in and put yourself in a situation you don't want to be in. She may come around. Or maybe not. It's not the end of the world if you move on without her. Friendships evolve and change. People in our lives who we call friend come and go as we or they change, or as our circumstances and life experiences change. Friendships happen when we have a lot in common with another person. You are changing. Your life no longer revolves around food. Perhaps it's time to move on to new experiences with new people who share your new interests. Best of luck to you as you deal with this distressing aspect of your new life.

    Surgery after 65

I had rotator cuff surgery about five years ago. Actually it was surgery to remove bone spurs in my shoulder socket but it turned out I had torn my rotator cuff sometime between my MRI and my surgery date. Too bad - the bone spurs would've been a 1-2 week recovery but the rotator cuff was a long, long, loooong recovery. Three months in a sling, months of stiffness and physical therapy exercises. Took about a year to have normal range of motion w/no pain. But after many years of worsening pain till I couldn't even use my arm anymore, it was worth it!

    Chili

Chili is my staple food, I don't remember how soon I stated eating it. I like it spicy w/lots of flavor so I routinely add hot salsa or chopped jalapeño's to it. I also love spicy humus (I eat it w/a spoon). I've never had any trouble w/ spicy foods. It packs a lot of flavor in a little bit food. :-)

    excess skin

It depends on a lot of things - age, how long you've been overweight, how quick you lose, etc. Some people do amazingly well and don't have much loose skin. Others have a lot. Working out with weights will help tone muscles and may help the overall look but only time will tell if you end up w/loose skin.

    Cleaning my closet

I have got rid of a ton of clothes over the last ten months. My husband has his side of the closet back, but not because I have few clothes. It's because both my girls have moved out so I now have not one, but TWO double closets to use, in addition to my half of the walk-in closet I share with my husband! And I am up to the challenge of supplying these additional closets with an all new warm-weather wardrobe in size 8 (last summer I was a size 18/20). I have one already full of beautiful clothes for spring and summer. I might make the other a shoe closet... Lol Life is good! :-)

    December post ops

I'm 9 1/2 months out and have only recently been able to eat chicken and keep it down (like two days ago). Protein foods I've always done well with are tilapia, shrimp, ground chicken and turkey, chili made w/ground meat, sirloin tips au jus (very little) and baked beans if low in sugar. Also, diet staples for me are cheeses, low sugar protein bars, ostrich meat sticks, split pea soup, chowder, and Greek yogurts mixed w/low sugar protein granola.
  8. I went from 9 1/2W to an 8. On the down side I have a LOT of shoes that don't fit anymore and only maybe six pairs that do. I need some summer sandals that fit - time to shop!

How fast did you go through sizes?

I started at a very tight 22/24 bottom and 2X top. By seven months out I was 100 pounds down and a size 10 bottom and a medium top. Today, 9 1/2 months out I am in a size 8 and a small top. :-) I still can't believe it! :-)

    How about some NSVs!?!?

By seven months out I was down 100lbs and in a size10. After a long stall I lost 10 more pounds and am in a size 8. I'm 9 1/2 months out now. :-) You'll get there. Follow your program as close as you can and it'll happen. :-)
  12. Now THAT I believe! Why can't everything just cost what it costs. If healthcare costs were reasonable then health insurance would be reasonable.

Foamies happen when you eat too much, eat too fast, or eat food too dry. Your body produces foamy saliva to get relief. You can feel foamies starting. For me it feels like when you eat 'pop rocks' candy - remember those? It's a gurgly fizzy feeling in the back of your throat. I get very nauseous when it happens. When I throw up it's mostly foamy saliva with little bits of food.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I still look at my clothes and think "No way does that fit me!"... and it does. I washed my size 8 jeans a couple days ago and was sure I shrunk them when I held them up looked at them. They looked so tiny! But nope! They still fit! :-) I threw a bunch of size 10 work pants in the wash last night to TRY to shrink them so they'll fit again. Lol
  15. My daughter is uninsured. She was really sick last week and developed a secondary infection. She went to the doctor's office and they only charged her $35 (insured cost is $170, uninsured self-pay with cash $35). Big difference, wouldn't you say?
  16. It was about 15 years ago. It's a long time, I know, but I was there for a long time and the plasma was one of the most expensive things on the itemized bill. The plasma and pheresis was almost half of the cost. It was considered an experimental treatment at the time (but it saved me from permanent nerve damage, being on a respirator, and many, many months of physical therapy).
  17. I brought cinnamon buns to our morning meeting where we met our new manager for the first time. She looked at me and said "You're such a little thing! It's always the little ones who bring the food!" Lol If she only knew...
  18. Which was 100% covered by BCBSRI, thank God!!!
  19. That seems excessive. Once I was in our local hospital in intensive care, then transferred by ambulance to Mass General for over two weeks, part of that time in intensive care, tons of tests, and had plasma pheresis five times. I was under the care of the head of neurology because of the rarity of my condition, so that wasn't cheap either. The whole bill for two hospitals, ambulance, expensive experimental treatments, and three neurologists came to about 50K.
  20. Any physical shock van cause hair loss. Surgery and sudden weight loss are two causes. Some lose a lot, some not so much. Biotin doesn't prevent it, neither does getting all your protein. By the time you actually SEE hair loss the event that caused it is months in the past. Biotin can help the new hair that grows to be healthy. Changing your hairstyle or cutting it shorter can help disguise the hair loss. It's only temporary. :-)

What is your WLS Motivating Mantra?

Saw a good quote attributed to Bruce Lee today: "A goal is not always meant as something to be reached. Often it is just something to be aimed for." On your journey your original goal may change or be replaced by one totally different. As we change so do our goals. But the original goal got you started on your way. :-)

Tiverton RI. I grew up in Newport, then married a Tiverton boy. :-)

    What Happened

Definitely what Dorian said. Don't weigh yourself if it's stressing you out. You will lose for a while and then nothing for a little while as your body adjusts. It'll happen over and over again. If you follow your plan as closely as possible you will have success. Relax and keep on doing what you're supposed to do. It takes time. Be Patient!

    Frustrated and depressed

If you can't swing the hospital cost can you maybe get a personal loan to pay for it?
  25. My first appointment w/my surgeon was in the beginning of March 2013 (I don't remember the date). My surgery was 5/30/13.
