I began my weight gain about the age of 11. Literally, over the summer I jumped from an average child's size to a woman's size 7. It is something that drags in my mind to this day. I feel that since that summer, I have never been able to get my body back. I was raised in a welfare household. We lived on the lowest quality foods. Portion control was never a thought. Emotion and stress ran hand and hand within my upbringing and with that blind consumption. I sustained many other abuses and tragedy in my upbringing and managed to survive it all. I realize now that much of that was supported by my relationship with food. I made many attempts to lose weight with only one real significant episode of success that was not sustained long term. I managed to get a college education as an RN and have finally reached a point in my life that I was able to feel fully educated and confident in a decision to seek surgical intervention.
I had a gastric bypass February 19, 2013. I have been blessed with a great recovery. My only issue is the rare coincidence of a suture through a nerve that causes pain in the left lower area of my naval, it should disappear with the dissolution of my internal sutures. I took 2 weeks off work, but ended up off three because of the nerve pain. I'm feeling pretty great. I hate the protein shake, but oh well. I look forward to meeting all my aspirations this year. This year stands to bear a lot of change and I'm ready for whatever comes my way.
