I'm 3 years post op and have been successful in maintaining the weight loss. I am now having trouble keeping my sugar levels up. I usually stay around 70-75 (fasting-80 to 85 after eating). is this a coming thing after bypass surgery?
-
I was able to eat strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries at my year mark. I probably could have tried sooner, but didn't want to chance it. Like others have mentioned, watch the sugar content. I am 3 years post op and I still csnt eat a whole banana. Tomatoes and avocados are part of my regular diet. Enjoy. Best of luck to you.

Oh my gosh!! Good for you!! This has to be a HUGE mindset change!! I wish you the best of luck. I am only two years post op... I am still learning how to " handle" the bad habits. I've been able to keep the weight off (130lbs).. Still it's not easy.. Then again the thought of protein shakes...UGH!!! Good luck!!!

Horrible Stomach Pain.
Apryl Jones replied to Still Misbehavin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yikes! I cant recall having that kind of pain (i know that is no help) I was feeling like a sharp stabbing pain and it felt like my stomach was eating itself. Turns out i had an ulcer. The surgeon put me back on prilosec and a stomach coating medication. It has helped a lot. Did you eat something spicy or out of the norm? -
I loved your joke! It was funny. I had my surgery a year and 2 months ago. I had many ups and downs, I would do it again. I too had high cholesterol, blood pressure, sleep apnea, and was per diabetic. The only one instill battle is High blood pressure (hard to fight with genetics). The two week pre op diet was tough (mainly because I wanted to kill those who were eating in front of me). I lost 18lbs from that alone. The liquid diet after surgery was tough for me. Not because I was hungry (I still don't feel hunger) but because I wanted to hew something. I found iced helped AND helped with the water intake. If there is ANY advise I can give its STAY HYDRATED! It's crazy the problems it causes. If I don't get a minimum of 70-80 oz a day, I feel like crap. Good luck, you about to embark on an amazing journey!!

Hi, I had it bad before surgery. I am still on Prilosec now. I don't feel the heartburn though. I was "lucky" enough to develop an ulcer 8 mo after surgery ( which is rare according to my surgeon, thats why i am still on it).I think it depends on each person and how their body responds. I did go from 40mg a day to 20mg. That is a plus.

No change in weight but inches YES!

First, congrats! You look great!! The same thing is Still happening to me ( and I am where I want to be weight wise). The scale wouldn't move for what seemed like weeks.. But my clothes didn't fit. Good luck!! -
This made me laugh. It's nice to know all bypass patients are in the same boat. I called mine flags. I may have to start saying wings.

Hello. I am new to this site. I had my surgery over a year ago. I also had sleep apnea. I remember my mask doing the same for me. The provider of my machine had creams to help with the skin sensitivity, you can try to look online. I started washing my face and using an oil free moisturizer before I put the mask on. That helped my skin be less irritated, but I was never able to get rid of the marks on my face. Turned out, I had the mask too tight and I had to get another one because it didn't work for my skin. I did sleep better with the machine and felt better. I had to "learn" how to deal with something on my face, it took me a few weeks. I am happy to report that I was able to return my machine 5 months ago. I was retested and no longer have apnea (I thank the surgery for that). I hope the same thing for you.
