Need support badly
toothdoc replied to poisonedsweet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I didn't get back to you. Haven't been on the site for a while. Reply back by private message when younge this.. -
My sister had an extended hospital stay. I had a drain tube and removal was no big deal. Quick and easy.

The phone app is Wahoo Fitness. It works for bikers and runners and works with the heart rate chest belt when walking. Can't get it to monitor HR when biking. Have to call tech support, but I have a Polar watch unit if I really want to do that. I like that you don't have to add a device to your bike wheel. I already have one of them for my Cateye unit that doesn't light up. The iPhone is very bright and readable.

I bought a Raleigh Detour 4.5. It's a hybrid. I sit straight up. It's fast and comfortable. I could not find a Trek that fit me. This bike works great and has 24 gears. Raleigh used to make the original "English Racer".

I started riding again. I am 7 weeks post op. have lost 24 pounds. I have a great app that runs on the iPhone that keeps track of average and max speed and time on the bike. Even shows a map of the route you cover.

My Dr. also wants me to wait. I am two weeks post op and I walk a mile twice a day. I want to get on the eliptical or use the home gym with light weight. I'll stick with using 5lb dumbbells but its driving me crazy.

Hi Everyone. I had a lap band done in 2009 and an RNY revision done May 13, 2013. Discharged after an overnight stay. My only complication was a throat and apparent prostate infection. Both were resolved with a short course of antibiotics. Can't wait to move to mushy foods tomorrow. To Still Misbehavin. I've had two cervical fusion operations: C5-C7 then C4-C5. Never had problems with that but as you state, the areas above and below the fusions start to deteriorate. My last surgery was six weeks prior the Rny. aA disk replacement C3-C4. It was supposed to be better than another fusion. I have had more issues with this than with any other surgery. Chronic pain and pinched nerve-like discomfort. If you can avoid all of that, good. Try cortisone injections first if you have more problems.

Band removed and bypass sane day?
toothdoc replied to nagrin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Day 6 post op. 228 lbs on surgery day and 218lbs this morning. My fluid intake hasn't been difficult. I can get down 16 oz of crystal light in 30-45 min as long as its not cold. My sister who is 1 year out from RNY says I can take in more than she could at this stage. Getting the shakes down ok. Can do 11 oz in less than an hour, again as long as its not cold. I mix all liquids 50% out of the refrigerator with 50% room temperature. I'd like to hear about everyone's first mushy food. Was it eggs or yogurt or something else? Give me some suggestions. -

I'm new to the forum. It has a lot of new fresh users and information. I had lap band surgery in April 2009. I lost just about 20 pounds, but could never find the sweet spot with my fills. In 2012 my cardiologist suggested I lose a few pounds. When I reminded him I had a band, he suggested investigating the possibility of a revision. A lot of his banded patient's didn't seem to have much weight loss success. I started the whole process over in November 2012 and in about 10 days I will get a surgery date for the by-pass. I originally wanted the sleeve in 2009, but the insurance company then thought t was experimental. Now, it seems I meet more sleeve patients than any other in the Bariatric surgery practice where I go which is at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The surgeon is Dr. Christina Li. She advised me that it doesn't make sense to go from one restrictive procedure (Band) to another (sleeve). The Bypass is still the gold standard. I have a better concept of how to eat post-op, and have been able to practice a lot better than I did 4 years ago. I use fresh ingredients and have found better sources of protein. I should be a more compliant patient. I am a bit worried. I don't want to be disappointed like I was with my weight loss progress with the band. Hopefully the greater restriction and the malabsorption will be the key. I exercise regularly. I hear on the forum that revision patients don't lose as much weight as patients who go directly to the bypass. Can anyone who has had this revision provide me with some feedback. I am 232 pounds. I lost 10 pounds on the pre surgery regiment. My target weight is 175. Thats only a 55 pound weight loss.

Well I am one month out. Lapband to RNY revision surgery scheduled May 13th. I am two weeks post op from cervical disc replacement surgery. I still have pain. Good thing I had this surgery first because I have really needed the Motrin and aspirin.. Hope I am pain free in two weeks when I have to stop those meds.

Well I hope that sets your mind at ease. One less thing to worry about is always a good idea.

My younger sister didn't have a drain but older sister did and she had less problems with gas. She swears that the drain made the difference.
-
Ten days before prostate surgery I had a cystoscopic exam. After the procedure i had urine retention and had to have a catheter for 10 days. A drain can't possibly be worst that that.
-
No she didn't have a revision. She went right to RNY. She did have problems with the anesthesia. She was hospitalized for 5 days. My youngest sister also had RNY but she is younger and has been doing great. Do you know anything about the drain that's left in when you the the hospital?

Well I got my surgery date. May 13th. The surgeon had earlier dates but my cardiologist wants a 6 week space between another surgery i am having on April 1st that's not related to weight loss. I thought it was stress on the heart that was the issue. it is actually the concern of being off anticoagulants for a long period that would be required for two closely scheduled surgeries. I'm glad both specialists are on the same page. They spoke on my cell phone on speaker phone while I was in the office. My big sister will visit and keep an eye on me. She is about one year out from RNY and knows about the complications and what I should eat.
