Anyone From Northern Va/dc Area
VTMnkyGrl replied to sbstylun's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm in Manassas and having my surgery at Fair Oaks on May 13th. -
Wow, that's alot of protein! I got unjury, it was recommended and my dad had a lapband and used it and I tried it then and thought it was good. If I need more I'll have to check out costco, I got some of my Vitamins there, they have a B12 2500 mg for way cheep compared to what I saw online, and with such a large dose I'll only have to take it once a week Talked to the office this morning... I was officially approved as of Friday... I had a voice mail from them on Friday but didn't get it til to late to call... I was a bit worried because they couldn't submit until Wed or Thrus so I was sure that there was something wrong! So now I actually have a real scheduled surgery at the hospital and everything... it's getting more and more real!

oh yeah... I forgot in my last message... what are the pre-op diets like for you guys? I only have to do three days and I don't find out the details until next week but I'm curious

I just found out I'm offically approved... I'd gotten a message from the doctor's office on Friday and was worried because they had only submitted on Wed or Thurs. I have my pre-op with my primary tomorrow... it's getting really real. I visited my mom this past weekend... she's a bit freaked out, crazy worried about the actual surgery and then when I told her about the diet afterwards she was surprised at how little it really was!

He didn't really put me on any plan, I had to do 6 months of nutrition for the insurance and the nutritionist suggested trying low carb, uggh, I hate it, but it worked... He did put me on a weight loss med which has helped a ton too. I did get the after surgery plan from the nutritionist it's .... interesting... a bit different from what I've seen other people talk about but not bad. It's pretty much liquids & Protein shakes week one, then cottage cheese, yogurt oat meal, etc and Protein Shakes week 2, add scrambled eggs and tuna week 3, add soft vegies, fruits and soft Beans week 4 and 5 then weeks 6,7 and 8 is pretty much start adding whatever starting with moister stuff and making sure everything is low sugar and fat. I'm a little worried that i won't be getting enough protein with such little food at week 3 so i plan to keep track of how much i'm getting and if i need more i'll do a shake or two. I'm really curious about what the liquid diet will be, I am happy it's only 3 days and not two weeks like alot of doctors! Have you seen a nutritionist? They told me they are getting on in the office in May, I'm excited about that, I didn't exactly love the one I was seeing! My last appointment before surgery is the 30th! I have my pre-op with my primary dr on Tuesday, can't believe it's so close!!

Mine is may 13th. Where are you having it done? I'm going to Fair Oaks Just a little worried because I have to lose 5 more lbs... I've lost about 35 but he'd like 5. More before surgery. I'm thinking about starting the liquid diet a day or two early.

He's my doctor too! Haven't had surgery yet but I really like him too

I saw my dr on Tuesday hoping to schedule a date... but no... the scheduler is supposed to call me... haven't heard from her yet.... boo! Also I was able to request samples from the Bariatric Liquid place by going to: http://www.wellesse.com/sample/ or search for 'sample' and it was the third or forth result For the other site, Bariatric Choice, I did the live chat and they took my info and said they'd send it out today. Anyone know of other places that give samples? I'm always up for free

So I just saw my nutritionist yesterday and got the surgeon's diet plan and I'm a little worried... I have been reading lots of posts on here and it seems like most people are using the Protein shakes for a while, the plan I got says to stop them after week 2. It also doesn't have a 'goal' amount of protein either and the nutritionist wouldn't tell me one other than for 'normal' people and that I should probably have more since my doctor didn't have one. I can't imagine I would get enough from three meals of only 1/4 cup even if it were all protein. So how long did you guys use the Protein Shakes and how much protein are you all getting a day?

Length of time off of work?
VTMnkyGrl replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still trying to figure out how long I want to take too. I could probably swing 1.5 to 2 weeks with what vacation I have but I could also do STD but that requires telling people at work what I'm doing and I'm not sure I want to do that. I don't really want everyone I work with to know and I'm sure there'd be questions. -
Describe your 1-day post-op PAIN please
VTMnkyGrl replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Uggh! Lovenox is the worst! I had that when I was in the hospital once, and it was even worse when I had to give it to myself when I got home! Thank you guys for the info! I haven't asked my dr about pain meds yet, that'll be on my list for next time! I've been in the hospital so many times I don't wanna count and had a bunch of surgeries so I'm hoping this won't be worse than any of those, the worst being ovary removal where they cut open my abdomen muscle. -
I'm hoping for the first week in May as long as I can lose another 5 lbs or so, will find out April 9!
