    March Surgery Dates

Feeling so fortunate today. I went to my one week post op appointment and I am down 10 pounds. My surgeon said that I am doing wonderful and right where I should be. However, I also found out that my roommate, my surgeons first case of the day, had a heart attack and died last night. I am so sad for her family. I can't imagine the pain they must be going through. It just makes me realize that I am so glad I made this decision right now before I got to the point where it was dangerous to have the procedure done or that it was surgery or death. She was older and had a lot of co-morbidities but I am just torn up for her family right now. Her husband and I talked a lot during her stay, I just can't even imagine

    NSV!

Congratulations and I can tell you because I had a similar experience last year that I will probably cry too. I took my older girls 14 and 11 to Six Flags along with 2 of their friends. We went to the Water park and we were going on the water coaster and I got laughed at by three not very nice 20 something girls. My girls were so upset naturally (with the mean comments), but I know there must be a part of them that was also a little embarrassed. I am so looking forward to the day I don't have to worry about that ever again! I am so happy for you and the goal that you have attained. Keep going YOU CAN DO IT!!! Heather

    "I can't wait to/until..."

I cannot wait to: Stop spending my whole paycheck at lane Bryant Go to a water park without feeling bad for my kids (I got laughed at last year and I was devastated) Run a 5k Go running with my 14 year old (who runs cross country) Want to leave the house and go to the lake or go hiking Not feel self conscious when I enter a room Have more energy than I know what to do with!!!
  12. So, I am 5 days post op and my 6 yr old son started vomiting this morning, and as most of you who are moms know, those sort of things seem to spread through the whole house. Any tips or advice for anyone who may have been recently post op and ended up with a GI bug? Thanks Heather

    Let's Talk Gass

It took me a couple days. I walked a ton while I was in the hospital but no luck it didn't happen until that night when I got home and it was such a relief.

    medicine decisions

I know that when I had my first consultation with the surgeon to find out if I was a candidate for the surgery that is one of the things that he went over with me. I think that the physician would probably be the best person qualified to make that decision with you. They will have a great idea of which operation will allow you to take your most important medications post operatively.
  17. The hospital that I had my surgery at had PT come in and give me a post-op daily walking program that they said works great. I will outline it for you. Week 1 Day 1 6min walk x3 Day 2 6 min walk x3 Day 3 8 min walk x3 Day 4 8 min walk x3 Day 5 10 min walk x3 Day 6 10 min walk x3 Day 7 12 min walk x2 Week 2 Day 8 12 min walk x3 Day 9&10 14 min walk x3 Day 11&12 16 min walk x3 Day 13&14 18 min walk x3 Week 3 Day 15&16 20 min walk x2 Day 17&18 22 min walk x2 Day 19&20 24 min walk x2 Day 21 26 min walk x2 Week 4 Day 22&23 30 min walk x1 Day 24&25 34 min walk x1 Day 26&27 38 min walk x1 day 28 40 min walk x1 Week 5 Day 29 40 min walk x1 Day 30&31 42 min walk x1 Days 32-35 45 min walk This is what the physical therapist said that we should strive to do from now on. An hour would be ideal but at least 45 min walking at a brisk pace, not so that you are out of breath but a little faster than a leisurely pace.
  18. Any juice that I drink has to be diluted 50/50 with water. Is that the same for you too? Even if it isn't I would suggest trying it and seeing if it makes a difference. I have been able to tolerate it just fine.

    home from surgery

I had one and the doctor removed it the day I went home. It was such an odd feeling.
  20. There is a great site called Nashua Nutrition where you can order samples of many of their Protein drinks. Also I have a coupon code BT10 type it in a checkout and you will get 10% off. I ordered a lot of them yesterday including several of the syntax fruit flavors so that I can decide which ones I like before I order a whole tub Hope this helps Heather

There is a company called Nashua Nutrition, you can order samples though their website and they have tons of flavors. I ordered a whole bunch yesterday because I don't want to commit to a whole tub. Along with the regular flavors you usually find they have coffee flavors, fruity flavors, lemonade, fruit punch, iced tea. All kinds of stuff. Also if you use the coupon code BT10 at checkout you will get 10% of your order.

    Friday Weigh-In!

Great thread. I just had surgery on Tuesday. HW 267 Pre-op 3/19 240 CW 235.5 GW135 Love to see those numbers drop.
  23. You'll get a big AMEN from me on that too. I have been so gassy today, finally passed a bunch and had a BM. My stomach is very loud. It growls ALL the time. Walking has helped but as soon as I put food in there, the noise starts again. I had my husband pick up Dannon lite and fit yogurt today but noticed it has 10g of sugar. I am nervous to try it, I can only have 2tbsp so I am hoping it will be alright but any input is appreciated.

    Yogurt suggestions?

I am three days post-op and I am starting my full liquid diet today, including my protein shakes. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good brand of yogurt to use? My husband bought me plain greek yogurt and I am not too sure that I am going to be able to stomach the taste of plain yogurt.
