Finally part of the club!
nhnurse1 replied to erikaloftin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, since about 2 weeks post op I can't do milk or yogurt without dumping, cheese still seems to be okay, thankfully! My NUT said it is very common and often goes away after a while. -
Still Waiting someone HELP
nhnurse1 replied to SemperFiWife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost everyone hits a plateau within a couple weeks of surgery I hit mine at 3 weeks post op. Keep following your doctors instructions. It will work, the scale will move. Make sure you are getting in all your protein and fluid and make sure you are MOVING. Take a walk everyday. It really helps. -

How about some NSVs!?!?
nhnurse1 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went shopping with my girls and went into one of those teeny bopper stores (OMG that makes me sound so old), but you know the type of store I'm talking about. I tried on a pair of jeans there size 15/16 and THEY FIT!! I didn't like them at all and didn't buy them but I was so excited that they fit. I also stood in front the mirror at the gym the other day and I didn't want to gag!! HA HA, yeah I know that's cruel but I felt closer to average and didn't feel like the one fat girl at the gym. It was amazing! -
WOW good for you! I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and have lost 25 since surgery. What is your secret, lol? You are doing great!

Terrified of Dumping
nhnurse1 replied to coolnessa22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You NEED the protein, get those shakes in. Your body will think you are starving. You need them for weight loss. As far as dumping, milk and yogurt are the only things that have made me dump. -
I had 5 as well

Thats exactly when I stalled. I lost 22lbs in the first three weeks and then stalled for a whole week as a matter of fact, I went up 2 lbs. I am 5 weeks now and the scale finally has gone back down those 2 lbs again. My NUT said to really focus on protein and sometimes this helps break through it but be reassured that you are still losing inches.

I am so jealous,I mean I am so happy for you lol. I am 17 lbs from onederland. It must feel amazing! Keep up the good work!

restless leg syndrome
nhnurse1 replied to AmandaPoplin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be a few different things, dehydration, calcium and Vitamin D according to the sleep doctor I saw are the most common. I started to take presc. strength Vit D pre op because mine was so low and it helped. -
restless leg syndrome
nhnurse1 replied to AmandaPoplin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my sleep study the physician I talked to about my RLS said it often can be from nutrient deficiency. I would share it with your physician, they may want to do some labs. -
Getting all the protein
nhnurse1 replied to wonderwoman75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
great idea! Maybe I will try that at lunch! Someone else also suggested making a scrambled egg with cottage chesse in it. I haven't tried it but it would definitely add protein. -
Getting all the protein
nhnurse1 replied to wonderwoman75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hummus has some protein but you are right not a lot about 2g usually. It is better than eating something with none I suppose and it is usually well tolerated. -
Prayers to my wls surgery friends in Boston
nhnurse1 replied to Foranewme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is really scary, I was on my way back from the coast when I heard the news. I live about 60 miles north of Boston. I was just there last week in that very spot taking my son to Children's Hospital. My heart aches for them all. Prayers for Boston! -
Oh no, that's terrible. I don't tolerate milk or yogurt but have an egg almost every morning. Maybe your pouch just isn't ready yet

Scale has been at a standstill for a week. Pretty depressing but keeping my head up and moving on!

I am a nurse and work in the hospital so I had to take six weeks off because of the lifting that I do. I wasn't able to take a shower until I went home (2 days post-op). I brushed my teeth every day and was up and around and doing great.
