How many grams of protein a day?
ArmyOfMe replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was advised to aim for 64g/day. First few weeks were a challenge to even keep up with the water requirements let alone 64g of protein. Even now, I still can't drink that much protein. Eventually I'll get there. Until then, foods rich in protein for me and as many shakes as my pouch can tolerate. -
You can have an occasional glass of wine but do not rush it if you are still early out. Consult your WLS binder, ask your Nut. & surgeon first. More than likely they will recommend you to wait a good while just so your new plumbing can heal properly.

Yep, we were stationed at Robins AFB from 08-11. I know that town inside out. Loved Macon and going up to ATL. Perry and Milledgeville are nice too. I miss Middle GA a lot.

You can try the Arctic Zero ice cream or Skinny Cow instead. http://www.arcticzero.com/store/150-Calorie-Pints

If your WLS binder says fresh fruit is safe than it's ok to add it. Depends on what stage you are in and what your Nut. and surgeon recommended. Personally, I doubt it would hurt you in any way, especially in a shake.

That could be water weight for all you know. Don't despair. Your weight will fluctuate as your body tries to adjust to this major shock it was submitted to. You got some great advice. Combined with your Nut. & surgeon 's guidelines, make the best of it and keep pushing thru.

1 year Annivsary of my surgery
ArmyOfMe replied to Michael1979's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! You look terrific! -
Measure and log your food intake. Follow your surgeon's and Nut. advice. All those nerve endings need time to heal. You won't feel much early out. It will take time to get used to the chaos.

I've read on here that it's not recommended due to the lack of nutritional value and the big amounts of sodium in it.

As long as it's not sticky rice, I'm ok with it in general. I had a bad craving for sushi (made with sticky white rice) not too long ago, fell for it like an idiot and threw it all up like nobody's business. Screw that, I can live without rice in my diet. Lesson learned!

Cucumbers & Vinegar
ArmyOfMe replied to ShineBright724's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love cucumber vinegar salad. In mine, I put salt and a light sprinkle of paprika powder. Soo good! E-mail your Nut. They know best since they have access to your WLS file. -
Do ya ever feel guilty cuz you just feel so good?
ArmyOfMe replied to SoccerMomma73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although it's human nature and can't be helped sometimes, don't feel guilty for choosing a healthy happy life for yourself and your family. WLS is out there for anybody who deals with the obesity disease. They just need to make the right choice for themselves. All you can do is be proud of yourself and keep on with the good work. -
You do not have to have the glucose test done. Instead ask for the A1C test. A1C measures the average of your blood sugar for the past 3 months. Many pregnant women (WLS or not) choose it over the traditional glucose test. Do not allow them to bully you. Our system cannot process such a ridiculous amount of sugar.

Yep, what Jacqueline said. We shared the same surgeon. I sip occasionally here and there from my husband's cup. By the time we get home with his fast food and drink, the fizziness is completely gone. None left. I also saw Sparkling ICE beverage being recommended on the Bariatric forums. It's very carbonated but if you let it sit, it looses fizziness a lot. Better nutrition facts than other brands. http://www.sparklingice.com

Truly nothing to worry about. Tricare is THE easiest insurance to get approved thru. We are so blessed to have the privilege of having such amazing insurance thru our service members. My coordinator confirmed it to me numerous times. She loves working with Tricare out of all insurances. Follow with their guidelines and requirements and you will be petting your new pouchy in no time. Good luck!

For logging my daily food intake, I use MyFitnessPal. I'm getting addicted to it. -
Food log format? List of do's and don'ts re: food
ArmyOfMe replied to meyouus's topic in Food and Nutrition
I had a 2 week diet to shrink the liver before surgery day. I was given precise instructions and was reminded NO cheating. The list contained a variety of non starchy vegetables, steamed/baked chicken or fish the size of your palm but not more, protein soups, bars, pudding purchased from the surgeon's office, fat free/light canned broths and such. No alcohol, no sodas, no fried foods, no pizza or bread based foods, no pasta nor rice. -
Yeah, they're pretty popular. Some say to put the protein bar in the microwave and nuke it for 2 min. Apparently, it tastes better.

Try the cauliflower pizza instead. Much more nutritious. You can find the recipe here on the forum by using the Search option.

Family is still suffering from complications of RNY
ArmyOfMe replied to PiRatFamily's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are all in my prayers. I sincerely hope you can find a surgeon that will be able to help your Tony. Is reversal an option at this point or is the damage too big? -
All you can do is remove yourself from his sight. Go in another room or outside for some fresh air while he eats his food. He is not on any restrictions nor did he have WLS. You can't deny him the foods that you are advised not to touch. And yes, he should be more sympathetic but that would mean he is not allowed any no-no to you foods ever? Should he eat somewhere else other than home? Both of you have to find a way to make it work to where you are not angry about his culinary choices and he is not denied having them while you are around.

6 weeks post op and still cant eat without getting stuck
ArmyOfMe replied to mom24kiddos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything you eat gets stuck. That's the big red flag for a stricture. You need to call your surgeon's office for an appointment, so he can schedule you for an EGD. Only after, you will finally get relief. -
You can try the 5 day pouch test. If you Google it, it will pop up. Meanwhile, you can try going back to basics and also logging your daily food intake. A call to your Nut. would help, as well. http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-5-day-pouch-test-cottage-cheese.html?m=1
