Kcarr: the 16K I will pay is for the RNY alone. My insurance covered the lap band and the removal. I wish they covered the RNY since the success rate is much higher. After reading some of the quotes I see where most RNY patients believe the RNY is more easily incorporated into a routine. Good luck to all of you and please keep us posted with progress.

I had the acid reflus and heart burn with the band. As soon as the band was removed i no longer had any symptoms of acid or heart burn. if you think about it logically the band is a restriction in the form of something wrapped around the stomach. the RNY is a restriction, although differnt in that it is stapeled. I hope that makes sense. I know one thing for sure I do not miss the acis reflux.......

My story is similiar to you. I had the band 3 years ago lost 70 pounds. The band slipped and I had nothing but problems, acid reflux, heartburn.. Now I am going to have RNY a self pay, hoefully in August. My husband has been been on board all along. If I am happy he is happy. If you dont mind me asking how much do you have to pay? Mine will cost 16K. I am in Cincinnati. Please keep us posted. i am excited for you.

Is lap band a stepping stone to RNY?
srofe5 replied to cfranklin526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had band slipage and am having rny the end of july. my dr suggested rny to begin with but insurance would not cover. im a self pay 16k. thats how important this is to me. in reference to a band as a stepping stone, i do see your point. the easy experience of the band losing 70 pounds, made the rny decision much simpiliar. -

Have any of you had RNY Surgery in Mexico? I am curious. I am doing some research for my options and my Insurance will not cover RNY. If you have or know some one who has had surgery in Mexico... What was their experience? How much did it cost? How was the follow up care. Would you recommend? Thanks so much in advance for any help you can provide.

Weight Loss Surgery And Anorexia? *link*

I love your response. Well thought out and excellant points. it is sad that someone in need would choose to dismiss an operation that has helped so many because of an article by one. You are an inspiration!! -
