    Fabulous February Post-Op's

I struggle with what I see in the mirror a lot. Some days I feel huge, other days I pat myself on the back. It's very tricky, isn't it? To me, it's clear that you have lost a TON of weight. You are also very curvy. It may be a case of your eyes being drawn to some parts of your body and not others... Or looking at yourself in a vanity mirror versus a full-length one. My eyes never see the same "me" twice. The funny thing is that when I was 50 pounds heavier, I played the same games with myself. In the mirror I saw reasonably passable me some days, and "hippo" on other days. I just don't know what to make of it any more! You and I are the same size and wearing the same size pants, but I'm not nearly as curvy as you, so my butt looks flatter and my waist thicker. A few inches of height can make a huge difference as well, or where you carry your weight. Focus on the positive changes you see in your life. Check out this post: http://www.rnytalk.com/topic/9953-how-about-some-nsvs/ It keeps me motivated by not just looking at the numbers on the scales. And hang in there! We're all here with you!

I have a question for all of you: How far along are you in your weight loss? I don't want to know exact number of pounds lost, but I just noticed that it seems like most of us are about half-way to our goal weight. Some are closer to 2/3 of the way there, some are lagging a bit behind... Would you mind sharing? Cecilia (half-way there)
  3. There is nothing I love more than crossing my legs. I think it is the thing I missed the most in the past 15 years!

Continuing the slow downward much. I like looking at the grass on MyFitnessPal.com because the visual is better than the numbers a seen on the scale. You can see where my thyroid pooped out, lol!

Now carry him around piggy-back for 10 minutes or so, and remind yourself of what a favor you've done to your knees, feet, etc... In fact, we all should go to the grocery store and pick up a pail/box of kitty litter or something that weighs what we've lost, lest we be tempted to minimize our accomplishments. I encourage you all to try it! I was thinking about this when I lugged the kitty litter down the stairs the other night...

I did it!!! Check out the ticker! I'm in the 180's, my BMI falls in the overweight (not obese) range, and I'm more than half-way to my goal weight. I started out at a size 22, and now I'm fitting comfortably into size 16's. What a relief to see the scales moving again, however slowly.

I was kind of wondering about that... LOL! BTW, never congratulated you on making it to Onederland!

I'm just as baffled. They told me they'd just check it at my 4-month appointment with all my other bloodwork. It doesn't make a damn bit of sense. Oh well. All's well that ends well? Odd aside: I've lost a grand total of 2 pounds in the past month, and yet in the last week or so people have been commenting on my weight loss again. Are their eyes just finally adjusting to what they're seeing? Am I wearing clothes (baggier or tighter) that are showing it off more? Or did it all just jiggle it's way around so that some parts of me suddenly look thinner? Weird.

I don't know if this image will show up... Using my phone to post... In case it does, check it out. You can practically see where my thyroid gives up the ghost and all wt loss stops. Then, where I go on synthroid and I literally feel like I'm coming back from near dead. Crazy!
  13. How about the joy of not having to dig for where to buckle the belt somewhere under your thigh... I can SEE it! It's right THERE! LOL!
  14. You're a rock star!!!!

OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD, OHMYGOD!!!!! It happened! After a month-long stall, I finally lost two pounds!!!!!!!!!!! I needed this so badly, you have no idea! I was almost to the point where I was contemplating accepting that the surgery netted me a 30-pound weight loss, and, well, at least I wouldn't be regaining that, and I kept focusing on the non-scale victories, but WOW! I've been perking up little by little as the thyroid meds kicked in, and kept up with the crunches, push-ups, and squats, just to make myself feel like I was doing something... and today I jumped on the scale and saw that it had moved. Wow. I really needed that.
  17. I should tell my mom how much everyone is appreciating the bra site. She's the one who turned me on to it. I started with just one page, and two hours later I had read the entire website. LOL!

I would try them in small amounts. I was able to have popcorn with my kids, but I try to bring something else to snack on instead (like apple slices -- was so yum!)

I found some old bras in a box of clothes I thought I'd never wear again... it feels so weird to wear smaller bras! But honestly, as long as they're boosted into the correct elevation, I don't care how big or small they are. Just so they don't droop.
  20. Okay, I'm trying to stay positive even though my dumb thyroid issues brought my weight loss to a crashing halt last month. On the plus side, I've been gardening, and I have to keep reminding myself that I can crouch. There is no huge stomach in the way, and my legs feel good. That is, I don't lose circulation in my feet when I bend my knees, LOL! It's so nice!

Dang! I'm so jealous!! I'm still waiting for my energy to come back. I no longer need to take naps every day, but just being up and around all day kicks my butt. On the plus side, I should say that at least I'm not gaining weight... For a while there I was nervous. And I *do* have enough energy that I could go out and do some serious gardening yesterday (which is probably why I'm so whipped today). I want my metabolism/thyroid back! Waaah! LOL! I get it checked again in two weeks...

Fabulous!!! You need to update your ticker! There's no way that's just 21 pounds lost!
  23. I know, right? I learned so much from it!

With my energy levels in the toilet for the last few weeks, just getting up and walking from my bed to the couch left me exhausted, so my couch-to-5K took a beating. However, I did find that I had it in me to start doing little crunches (just learning to tuck my stomach in tight for starters), modified push-ups (off the back of the couch as opposed to off the floor--and believe me, that was PLENTY), and squats, that is to say, standing to almost sitting on the couch to standing again. One set of ten reps for each of these. I've been doing them every other day, and getting a tiny bit stronger every day. Now that the Synthroid is starting to kick in (day 4) I have been able to go without daytime naps for two days in a row (wow, that sounds so horrible when I type it!). I hope I can get back to walking, then quickly progress to walking/running in the next few weeks!

I've been trying to up my fluids for this same reason. Every time I stand up I need a minute to stabilize before walking because my bp drops so much. At the doc's office I was 90's over 60's. Normally I run 100's over 70's which is lowish compared to the general population to begin with, but geez... My arteries have got to be thrilled, though!
