I'm close, monken... I'll be 50 in October. I hope to celebrate it in something close to my goal weight! -
We forget our surgery can be an inspiration

She has lost 100 pounds (She's pretty close to her goal now) and a year later it still is coming off, a little at a time. Just when she thinks it's safe to invest in non-second-hand clothes, she goes and loses enough that she outgrows her clothes. Bummer of a problem to have, huh? She also thinks it added a good 10 years to her life, and unmeasurable quality to it. -
So pleased to be able to join this group "officially." I walked around the little lake by my house (1.8 miles). It was a 38 minute walk (lots of stopping for stretching). I'm looking forward to beating my time tomorrow. Thanks for motivating me!

I've done them, using the C25K app as well. I loved training this way, and I worked myself up to a 10K in one summer. That was a few years back. I'm looking forward to doing it again this year, with less weight on my joints. Congratulations!!!

Nutritional guidelines post-op? Does anyone have the breakdown?
Cecilia posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I came home with loads of information on what to eat and drink, but nowhere in my educational materials does it say what the breakdown of protein/carbs/fat/total calories should be per day. Do any of you have this information? I'm a little over a week post-op. -
Nutritional guidelines post-op? Does anyone have the breakdown?
Cecilia replied to Cecilia's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Thanks! I finally got a call from my dietitian. She told me exactly what you said. She said if I follow the guidelines in the sample diet, and avoid fats and sugars, I should have no problem at all staying within those guidelines. -

Just figured out the multi-quote feature, and I'm loving it! LOL! Welcome MaryAnn! We all b*tch and whine when things go wrong, but when things go right (out of modesty or not wanting to make others feel bad) we keep our mouths shut. I'm here to tell you that I was off narcotic pain meds the day after I got home, and off Tylenol the next day. I've been walking and driving and shopping, and other than needing regularly spaced down-times on the couch, I couldn't be better. I hope it will be the same for you! Kat, Can you tell the difference between the kidney stone pain and the other pain? It can't be helping to have them both going at the same time. Take care, and I hope this is all over soon! Nice and steady weight loss is my dream, regardless of how quickly it comes. It beats the h*ll out of whooshes and plateaus, whooshes and plateaus. I was so pleased with myself at having lost 15 pounds in the first week, then I stalled for a few days, and now it's just creeeeeeping off. So much so that it motivated me to take my first "excercise" walk. 38 minutes around the lake, and when I got home I was so pooped I had to go lie down for an hour, LOL! -
Hang in there, hon! I think we all got a case of cold feet (or buyer's remorse) at one point or another. It will pass!!

It seems as though I've become like an ex-smoker when it comes to food. I can walk into a room and smell an open bag of chips, and stuff like that. I've never been so attentive to the smell of food as I am now that my selections are so limited. It's driving me crazy!

Would anyone like to share how long it was before the were able to do more than just walking? I'm not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs for the first four weeks, so obviously weights and I imagine sit-ups are out... when did you start running and doing more high-impact stuff? My goal is to run the same 10M run in the Fall that I did two years ago, but hopefully weighing 80 pounds lighter!

It's nice to think that an hour of exercise could just about wipe out all the calories you ate for the day, LOL!

info meeting changed my choice

My mom was set on the band, then her doctor told her there were just not as many guarantees as with the RnY, so she changed her mind and is so glad she did. My doctor told me the RnY is the "gold standard" for gastric bypass surgery. -

It was my mom's surgery (she was 70 when she had it) that motivated me to get it done a year later! -
What ya eating tonight?

I don't get why my doctor wants me on a puree diet for four whole weeks! I know, it will pass fast, but it's sooooo boring! -

The day I had terrible nausea, the doctor figured it was because I hadn't had a BM in six days. Took some Milk of Magnesia, it worked, and no nausea since. I don't know if that applies to you, but for what it's worth... I hope you feel better soon! -

Wow! I'm still on purees for the next four weeks. I tried (allowed) scrambled eggs yesterday and chewed them until they were so mushy I could swish them between my teeth... and still threw it all up. Isn't it interesting how different doctors take things at different speeds? I would kill for a bite of chicken right now that didn't come out of a baby food jar! LOL! -

It's a tough balancing act. On the one hand, they want to thin your blod so you don't get clots, but on the other hand, if they thin your blood you are at risk not clotting where your new incisions are, and bleeding... I'm sending positive thoughts to you and to your team of doctors! -

Being back in your own bed is an amazing feeling! (Though I do wish my bed were adjustable like the hospital beds are... it would make reading in bed so much easier) -

Wow! What a story! I hope your recovery is easier than the surgery was! -
Well... four hours later (JK) I'm caught up with everyone's stories. Soccer Momma, will you add me to your amazing list? I had my surgery on the 13th...
