A year ago I asked my doctor if I would qualify for the Roux en Y bypass surgery. He said I was a good candidate. My mom had just had it and was losing weight really fast and it was going well for her. I joined the weight loss support group which lasted 3 months, and finished it having lost 25 pounds. The previous year I was all about exercise, but this year I couldn't bring myself to do much of anything. I felt weak, I was permanently sweaty, could not bear being outside due to the heat, and couldn't emotionally bring myself to going to the gym. But I was maintaining my weight loss, so they set up the appointments needed and told me I'd probably get the surgery before the end of the year. So we get to the end of the year and I'm at my preop visit with the surgeon, and one last-minute thyroid test shows I've developed Graves disease somewhere in the last year. This would explain the sweating all the time and the tremor I thought was due to my antidepressants. So they push the surgery date back a month, and treat the graves disease. I did't find out until three days before the surgery that it was still a go. Thank goodness, because it would have been way too late to reschedule my absence at work.
Anyway, had the surgery three days ago, and all went well. The new guidelines, however, say that I have to stay on clear liquids with some carbs (watered down juice, etc) for a week before progressing to purees, and they tell me this in the hospital. I was so ready to come home and start trying baby food and protein shakes, but alas, It's nothing but watery juice and barely-sweetened tea and decaf and broth for me for now.
I thought I'd join this group to help get answers to my questions -- mostly the type that go "is it normal to feel this way?"
