Wanting to Start A Houston (Westchase, Katy, Highway 6) Support Group
_Becca replied to galati25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Someone told me there is a Katy group from the Houston Yahoo Band group. Does anyone know if this is true? Of course starting our own would be GREAT, we just need to get it going! -
What the H!@!@!!! I got myself into?
_Becca replied to yummieT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't be scared! I was banded in Monterrey, MX two weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. I was very well taken care of and felt absouletly safe. I was freaking out a little too right before surgery, but now that it is over I am 100% happy that I did it. I have lost 14 pounds in two weeks! About the preop diet, they aren't as strict in Mexico. They don't have insurance companies to deal with and most of the doctors there have 10 years or more of experience. You will do GREAT. You've come this far, don't give up now!:clap2: -
When did you start PBing? Does it start after your 1st fill? Are there certain foods that trigger it. Just want to be prepared when I go in for my 1st fill.

24 pounds in 10 days? whaaat?
_Becca replied to theatreprincess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bet a lot of the weight is water loss. If your doc says things are ok, I wouldn't worry too much. You sure will do great with the band with all that cardio!!! Good luck! -
What are your new coping mechanisms now that you can't stuff your face???
_Becca replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel ya- I have three kids, too! I have been using the computer to distract me and I started eating crushed ice. It is sooo hard though! -
Hi Everyone! I am new to the forum and a 2nd Grade Teacher. I was just banded a couple of weeks ago. I have a question, does pb start after you get a fill? I am suppossed to get my 1st fill the week before school starts and I am wondering if that is a bad idea. I don't want to start the school year pb in front of the kids! I didn't know you could pb on coffee! Please give me some honest advice about this- Thanks

I feel the same way! It is sooo hard to not eat like normal. I can't wait to get my first fill!
-
Hang in there. Don't let them stop you!
-
WELCOME! This is such a great support group! Glad you are here!:clap2:

Hi! I am a teacher, too and had the exact same concerns! I was just banded last week and I would say you will need at least a week to recover. Maybe you could schedule your surgery Monday and take off the rest of the week. I have decided to stick to soup or soft things at lunch so that I won't have to worry about PBing unitl I get to know my band. I think you will be fine. My opinion, get your band as soon as you can! Everything else will work itself out. The coworkers I have told have mostly been supportive. They will ask you lots of questions, so if you don't want to discuss it, you might wait until it is done. Good luck and let us know how things go! We are here to support you!

Hi Everyone! Brandy- I decided to tell my co-workers, and most have been supportive. I am a teacher and I saw some of them last week during a summer class we had to take. They seemed to be happy for me. Their main concern was before surgery, but once it is over there is not much they can do! Gladster- Welcome home. I am glad you loved Dr. Rodriguez. He is such a great doctor! (I guess I should have warned you about the long walk at the airport-sorry!:phanvan) Appleblossom- Thanks for the recipe- I will try it for sure! Tinkerbell- I am glad you are feeling better. I was in tears the second day and really found the only thing that made me feel better was walking. Just hang in there, it gets better each day! I love our group of LUCKY SEVENS! Becca

Has anyone had the surgery in Mexico?
_Becca replied to nicnaknut's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I was in the exact same situation. My insurance had an exclusion and I really couldn't afford to have it done here. I was lucky to find Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey. I just had my band placed last week and my experience was great. My doctor was so caring and his staff was fantastic. There are lots of doctors that fill bands in the US, so don't worry! Your doctor in Mexico will make sure that you have a fill doctor to see. Good luck. You can PM me if you have any direct questions! :nervous -
What is the hardest/worst part about being banded?
_Becca replied to KMEArnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, of course the best thing is losing weight! The hardest thing for me so far is learning to stop eating the minute I feel full. I am so used to just eating and eating until the food is all gone. The band is a tool to lose weight, you still have to commit to taking care of yourself and eating right. I have absolutely NO REGRETS! -
Hey Tinkerbell77, I know what you mean about the soreness! Just remember that every day it gets better and better. I am 10 days post op and I finally have no pain or soreness! I did pass lots of liquids, too. My doc said that is completely normal, so don't worry. I have been sleeping lots, but I figure it is the way our bodies are dealing with all these changes. All this pain is well worth it when the pounds start dropping! Hey Reconciler Glad your surgery went well and you are home safe. I was just in Monterrey last week for my lapband and I had a great experience, too!

This is your life, not your doctors! I would just tell your doc that you have been researching the lapband and feel it would be the best way for you to lose weight and be healthy. If your doctor doesn't support you, then find one who will. The lapband will change your life in such a great way! Don't let anyone stop you from that! :nervous

I am so excited for you! I was just banded and it is amazing how great I feel. Food doesn't consume my life like it used to and that is so nice. I hope everything goes great for you! You can do this!:clap2:
-
Hey there! I live in Katy, not too far. I hope your banding goes great! I love my band! You won't regret it!
-
Oh no! I hope everything gets back on track quickly for you! Maybe this will make you even more determined than ever-:D

Does anyone regret being banded?
_Becca replied to kero's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have NO regrets. I actually know what it is like to feel full and stop eating. Before, I would just keep eating and eating until my plate was empty. I feel so great, too. I have energy I haven't had in years. It is the most wonderful thing ever to see the scale go down, instead of up! I wish you the best! -
??? What about eating out?
_Becca replied to Longingtolose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went out to eat for the first time since being banded today. It was actually very amazing to only be able to eat a small amount of food and feel satisfied. I am still on the mushie stage, but still get full quite quickly. I really makes you see how much you used to eat before! Good luck with getting approved for your band. You will love it! -
Hey Gladster- I wish you a safe trip! You will love Dr. R. Let us know how things went as soon as you get back!:clap2:
-
How long did you wait to start working out? When is it safe to do sit ups/ ab work? I am feeling pretty good after surgery and am ready to start doing something to get my body burning calories.
-
My weight kept going up and I felt terrible about myself. I avoided having my picture taken and then would freak out if I saw a picture of myself because I was so big. The final straw was when I broke a chair after sitting down for dinner one night. That was when I said this is it- I can't live my life big anymore.
-
You know you want to do this for yourself, so just go for it and don't worry about what anyone else says. Anyone who says this is the easy way out is crazy. It is still a struggle, just with the band we have a fighting chance to not gain all the weight back! I'm sure your hubby will come around when you start looking great!

My doctor says in week 2 and 3, you can eat soft meats. I would think if you didn't throw up or PB you are fine.
