I have been reading a ton about the EGD's that everyone seems to be having done. I am not required to do this and am a bit worried about it. Can someone explain why this is important? Thank you so much!

Hahah I "quoted" the wrong "quote" LOL.

I am worried about this too. I am a chugger and have not been able to stop. I know I will not be able to after but what if I forget!

My doc told me to only expect to get down to 150 and to only loose about 15 pounds per month. I was a bit disappointed with this. Anyone else out there that has had better luck than this?? -

And your Dr. said that was a realistic goal? Oh I so hope so. I would love to see 125 again... -
Let us know what they say, I am curious too.

OK I am getting worried. My husband started taking classes on the 14th in addition to working full time. I work 50 hours a week so am exhausted when I get home from work. He has been pretty much doing all the house stuff as he works less hours then I do. But now with school he will not be able to. I am going to have to somehow find the energy to pick up the slack. Hopefully I get more energy fast!

Yeah it all has to be done within a two year period. I was surprised about all of the labs too, but I assume I will have some of those done during my pre-op right?

I am going to loose 100 pounds. I do not expect to be a size 2 again (yep I was 108 at one point) but there is no reason with this tool I cannot get where I want to be with a lot of work... -

Yep your right. I have decided to look at this as a challenge and blow away the average. Show that surgeon that I can kick a**! -
Hi there, I am a newbie with a March 22 surgery date. My question is for those that have had surgery already and have children or care for children. I am a Nanny and take care of a 25 lb 2 year old and a 16 lb 7 month old. I took two weeks off for the surgery plus a weekend. My surgeon was a bit evasive about weight restrictions and pretty much said that I cannot really do any damage. I was just wondering how people have dealt with picking up their kiddos and caring for them...

Caring for children after surgery

Oh good that you felt pretty normal after two weeks. That is how long I took off. I bet it was hard to be away from your little one for so long. How are you feeling now? -

Oh you poor thing! How are you doing now with everything? -
My voyage into this has been a bit different than some of yours it sounds. I had all but three appointments (pre op with PCP, final dietitian visit, and finally meet the surgeon) all before I was approved by ins. I was denied the first time around as my BMI had not been in the qualifying range for two years. So I met with everyone and did all my tests, psyc evaluation, yada yada over a year ago. The only visit I have left is my pre-op with my PCP. It feels even more surreal to be getting this done as I have been at it for close to two years...

He told you that from your highest or lowest weight? -
I am actually looking for the right psychologist as we speak. My situation may be a little different than some of yours. I gained over half of my weight from some medications that I was on, actually in about a three-four month period I gained close to 50 pounds. It caused me to go into a deep depression and I said "to hell with it" and ate what I wanted. I gained the other 50 that way. I tried everything under the sun to get the weight off and lost 26 and that was all I could get off, all of this was Dr. supervised. At that point my Dr. said to start the process for the weight loss surgery. I am not saying I have not developed eating issues or I did not have them before. I was anorexic and bulimic for years (all worked out through therapy long ago) but maintained a normal weight for a very long time, actually until two years ago. I am totally committed to this process and do see it as just a tool. I know I need to get to the root of why I became so depressed and decided to eat whatever and gained 50 pounds. I will succeed at this and I totally agree that therapy needs to be a part of that process.

Oh sorry I was not talking about the liquid diet part. THAT I am going to do and take very seriously. I was talking about prior to that I have felt the need to eat things I will not be able to after. When the liquid diet starts that's it, My "surgery" has started.

Did anyone have to do a 6 month, monthly visit with the dietitian for ins? I did and I have to admit that I fibbed my way through the while process (which I had to repeat after my denial). They wanted me to start to get used to eating like I would after surgery. So the outcome was to be that I was not drinking with meals, chewing my food to applesauce consistency, heavy proteins with low carbs, taking 30 mins to eat my meals etc... the thing is, is that if I could do all of that I would not need surgery. So I told them what they wanted to hear to get approved. Now I am worried that I did not take advantage of that time and cheated myself. I am now really scared that I will not be prepared once this is all said and done. Anyone else feel the same, or go through something like this?

I really hate to admit this, but I have been trying to enjoy what I can while I can. Maybe a bad attitude but the truth. I am not all out bingeing but not really watching it either.

Hi Group, I would love to join. My surgery is March 22nd. I live in MN and am having Dr. Jones do my RNY at Methodist in St. Louis Park. Anyone near me?
