How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
PaulD replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Chris, I am in the exact smae situation as you, I just had my second fill and if I don't pay attention when I am eating especially the first few bites, it pretty much can ruin that meal. The times I do remember(and I am getting better at it) as long as I chew really well and space the mouthfulls out I could probably keep eating for a while, the only reason I stop is because I portion out my food. I thought the idead was... when you get restriction, the food stops at the band (for a while) and you get full sooner? Thus you eat less, Is that the way you understand it? Paul from Boston -

Hi Bhamguy31, Congatulations! I was banded on the 7th,feeling much better every day,it is tough the first few days trying to get used the liquids stage(it aint easy) What have you been able to eat at this stage? I know every doctor is a little different as far as what he says is ok.I mostly can have yogurt,CIB, and some creamy soups and a ton of water, looking forward to the mushie stage already.Anyway good luck. I have to watch the Patriots kick ass - i hope:) Paul from Boston

Hey Ted, I was banded Jan7, a little sore but not to bad, I stopped the Percoset they gave me(nautious) I take a few Ibuprofen to take the edge off. The toughest part is the reality of BEING THERE, you went all the pre op stuff to get yourself prepared, and it is a little scary knowing the journey has actually started, it is taking a while just to get used to not reaching for what I crave. Liquid stage sucks, looking forward to Mushies! Paul

Hey Adam, You are so right about about the last 25 years(30 for me). I guess I will just switch to the Captain -no coke:) it's no big deal I guess. I did want to ask you one question... why Lap Band? over gastric by-pass, If it's to personal forget it.I just wanted to know why??? less invasive?reversible?lower mortality rate?all of the above? I just went to see my doctor/not the surgeon at the Hospital and she seemed to favor the by - pass over the lap band, I know it's totally my decision and they perform both surguries, so they have no vested interest in either, but she did raise some valid points. Before this coversation I was 100% lap Band, now I am not so sure. Oh well I guess that's why they have such an in depth pre- op program so as to make an informed decision. Paul

Thanks for the reply, I just started out, I have been to 1 group meeting, seen the Psych, have a meeting with a doctor today. I imagine everyone has to go through this whole process. It is actually kind of scary( I hope that does not sound to wussy! , sometimes i say to myself: what the hell are you getting yourself into? The journey goes on Paul

Hello all, I am just in the very beginnig stage of the process,I have been thinking about this for a long time, I have finally decided NOW is the time, I just told my wife about it and after alot of conversations and questions (one was "is my insurance up to date"? only kidding!)she is more afraid than I am, I have been doing alot of research on -line, I just stumbled on this site, so here I am,there are alot of great stories out there, I hope mine will be as cool! I am waiting to hear from my surgeon, for I guess will be my initial consult. Glad to be amongst others! Paul:eek:
