  1. My son just made some peanut butter cookies that are really good. They have NO sugar or flour. He made them with 1 cup peanut butter, 1 egg, and 3 scoops vanilla protein powder (1 scoop is roughly 1/3 cup). They are packed with protein! So simple to make with hardly any ingredients. They are sweet-sweet like regular peanut butter cookies. But it tastes great to have a healthy protein rich homemade cookie!

My daughter is 18 and she is having her bypass surgery 12/23/13. One week to go! So excited for her. I had mine 2/23/13 and I'm down 125 lbs! Anyone else here around her age?
  3. I am going to be asking my surgeon in two weeks. But I just wanted to get an idea. I was anemic before surgery and on supplemental iron pills. Since surgery I have been taking a multi vitamin with iron plus 600 mg liquid daily. My latest blood work shows not anemic but still low iron. I was just wondering when I may be able to go off the liquid and take pills instead. The liquid tastes terrible and makes me gag, not to mention my insurance doesn't cover it and it is $59 a month.
  4. I know this may come across kinda gross, but I have a question. Very often I read about gas issues post op. I am 2 1/2 months out and I have experienced more gas then I used to. But, today I have been very gassy and I have gone to the bathroom like every hour! It's not diarrhea the stool is normal but I have been going all day! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I am thinking it is all the gas pressure just pushing things out. I have had more gas today then I ever had. I took some gas X, hoping it will help. This happen to anyone else?

    Gassy butt.

I found out what is going on. Once I talked to my kids I found out the have had gas all day. Today was my birthday and my son had made a sugar free birthday cake with a Pillsbury sugar free cake mix and sugar free frosting. Apparently it can give people horrible stomach distress including bad gas. I googled it and it seems to have happened to others. So be forewarned.
  6. Here are my preop and four week photos.

I had my surgery one week ago on Feb. 26. The pain was horrible the first night until they got the pain medications right. After that I had no issues. Much easier then the two c-sections and hysterectomy surgery I had in the past. I have no pain now. My doctor closed the holes with a special glue nor steri strips or sutures. I never had trouble sitting or coughing. I was discard three days post op and had a 2 hour car ride home with no discomfort. Everyone is different
  8. Today is my twin boys Matt and Dan's 23 rd birthday. They wanted to spend the day as a family. One is bringing a Reese Peanut Butter Ice Cream cake. The other wanted ME to make him Red Velvet Cake. Do you know how hard it is to be on day six of your pre-op diet and have cream cheese icing all over your fingers with a fresh chocolate cake in front of you? I was so darn good I can't believe it. I didn't even lick my fingers!! To top this off they just brought home two hot pizzas. It is in-powering to be good though.
  9. I had my surgery on Tues. and came home from the hospital yesterday (Friday). I had horrible pains the first twenty four hours but I was given morphine pain pump and toradol in the hospital. I was sent home on liquid Oxycodone and liquid Tylenol. Gas pains were bad for a day in the hospital but walking really helped. My only problem I have now is contipation. Not sure what to do for that.
  10. Prayers being said for you Kat. Hope you have a very speedy recovery. Hugs

    Fabulous February!

I'm still in the hospital, being discharged tomorrow. Feeling great! Have had protein shakes, jello, Popsicles and Krystal lite. Walked a bunch. They took catheter out and IVs out. Only thing still in is the drain. Yuckie Took the first 24 hours to get the pain medicines to work. I was in extreme in extreme pain crying like a baby. Tried IV dilaudid, IV morphine nothing helped then tried Toradol and that was the magic answer. Pain went completely away. . Also glad u kept me an extra day. Very happy
  12. Surgery went well! On a pain pump (yippie.!) Only I drain. So I'm a loser now! Lost 16 lbs preop (oh ya)

    Fabulous February!

Ok, tomorrow morning at 10:00am, have to leave house at 5:00am because of rush hour traffic in Boston. Really nervous. All prayers excepted. Just hoping my bad trachea holds out long enough don't want to wake up on a vent.
  14. Glad I read this. Y'all are trip! Love it!! I have surgery in two days. Now I have to figure out if I should tell him now or after. lol Don't really feel in the mood for at the moment because I'm really anxious about my surgery. My husband is a skinny guy who eats sweets a lot. He is high energy. So do I tell him now or later?

    Fabulous February!

One of my biggest worries for Tuesday is that we live two hours away from the hospital. My husband will stay the day of surgery but won't be back until its time to come home. Which means I won't get any visitors. Though I know tons of the nurses and doctors. lol Feel bad because my always worry even though they are young adults. I feel blessed to have them because two of them still live at home and are wonderful with taking care of Mom when she's sick. I am also lucky that my husband does the grocery shopping on his way home from work every night so I can always put in my request for things I don't have. He does this because we live out in the mountains 30 minutes from a grocery store. Which is one of my fears with surgery. My closet local hospital is 30 minutes away and very backwoods. The ER is very basic and they don't do Bariatric surgery anywhere near us. So I hope I have no post Op problems.

    Fabulous February!

I think I'm already in my head for Tuesday. These last two days of my two week preop diet are killing. Wanting Carbs bad. To make it worse my we are having a wicked snow storm outside and my Golden Retriever Lucas keeps jumping up in bed with me with wet paws. I don't know if it happens with other breeds but Golden's paws for some reason always smell like Fritos! So I have spent the day craving Fritos because I have dog paws in my face. lol

    Fabulous February!

I'm starting to get a bit nervous about Tuesday. How do you calm your nerves before surgery?
  18. Sorry for not adding the rest of the directions. He said he baked them at 350 for 8 minutes. He also scored them with a fork like you usually do with peanut butter cookies.

    Fabulous February!

btb2013 I'm right there with you. My surgery is the same day as yours! A bit nervous even though I have had multiple surgeries. I have severe asthma and tracheo and bronchialmalacia, which basically means I have a floppy trachea (airway). I have been intubated on a ventilator for days post surgery before. This is why I'm going to have surgery 2 hours from my home at the Brigham Womens in Boston. It's one of the top hospitals in the country and they do all my surgeries because of my breathing issues. Saying prayers for you.
