  1. Hello everyone. I am going on a little trip while I am on my pre-op diet, and would like to know if there is some kind of mixer or shaker that I could take with me that is easy to travel with. Thanks for all your help.

    Hello from Maryland!

Good luck to you on your journey, and hope you get your band soon. I am having my surgery on June 27th in Houston. Maybe we can be june losers together. Keep us posted.
  12. I just got my surgery date today for June 27th. I am really excited about this because this has been a two year fight for me. But I am the kind of person who over worries. I am just worried that I am going to go for these pre-op tests and they are going to find something wrong, that will delay my surgery even more. I know all the nerves are normal and everyone questions their decision, I just needed to vent.
  13. Where did you have your surgery, and who was your surgeon? I am going to be banded on June 27th at University General by Dr. Garth Davis in Houston.
  14. Thank you both for the encouragement. I always wondered why people were iffy about the surgery when this is what they wanted. Now I am in this position and I see why. But I am so looking forward to this so much, just have to get through all this silly stuff.

    Insurance Approval

I'm not really sure how yours works, but I have BCBS Texas and was told that if I did not do 6 months in a row then the insurance company would not even look at it. Not really sure how true that is but I believed them anyway. With you it may be different, but no matter what I do wish you good luck.

    Denied an Frustrated!!

I understand your whole frustration with this process. After I went to my siminar I was told that my insurance would cover my surgery if I did a 6-month diet. So I went every month to Houston and did my classes, kept up with my menus, everything they wanted me to do. After I got done, I went to see the surgeon and they told me that I have a clause in my insurance that would not cover the surgery, and I would have to self-pay. So all of the work was for nothing. Turns out the guy did tell me wrong from the beginning and now they want me to pay for the diet done at the hospital, even though I did it because they told me I was covered. Now I am a self-pay and waiting on my surgery date. Just keep trying and appeal every chance you get and in the end when you have your surgery it will all be worth it. Good luck to you.
  17. hold your head up girl, in a week you will be glad you did this. and probably wondering what the heck all the stressing was about. Good luck to you tomorrow and everything will be fine.
  18. I am just waiting on my surgery date, but I wondered if anyone has been banded by Dr. Garth Davis in Houston. What kind of pre-op tests does he do? And how much pre-op dieting does he require? Thanks for the help!
  19. most of the people that I have talked to are really nice, they just won't return your phone calls. So I have had trouble with that. He is really an awesome surgeon, and really nice. I do know that he has a good background. They were telling me at his office since he and his father started that t.v. show on TLC, Big Medicine that their patients have really increased, so they are much more busy. I think maybe tooo busy. Keep me posted who you end up going with.

    I have my Surgery Date!

I just wanted to say that I also am having my surgery done by Dr. Garth Davis at University General. I am just waiting on the coordinator to call me with the surgery date. I am a self-pay. Good luck to you.

    Options for Self-Pay (Dallas)

I also am self pay and I am having my surgery done in Houston. By Dr. Garth Davis. His father and him do the t.v. show on TLC called Big Medicine. He is awesome. My surgery will be 11,900 and is being done at a new five-star hospital. If you need any information on this you can contact me anytime. I guess it would be about a 4 hour drive for you, but I know that people come to him from all over, because he is worth it.
  22. Congratulations on your surgery date! I am still waiting on my phone call for surgery, I am a self-pay. I too hate needles. I also avoid medical situations where I have to get stuck. The first time I had an IV is when I had my son and it really wasn't as bad as I hyped it up to be. The funny thing is, I was more worried about the IV than actually having to give birth. I am sure they will give some kind of relaxing meds before they do anything maybe if you mention it to the doctor. Hope everything goes well.

    another newbie

Mamato3, congrats on your decision to have the lap-band done. I am not banded yet, but I am working on it. 2 days after the seminar I went to, I found out that my insurance would pay for it as long as I did a 6 month medically supervised diet. 5 more months to go. I am soooo.... ready for this. Congrats again and keep us posted.

    Houston Wannabe Bander

Hi and welcome to LBT. I can't really answer the financing problem. I just wanted to say Hi from another Houstonian. I am with BCBS and they will pay for mine if I do a 6 month pre-op diet. So that is where I am at right now. Some people that I have read about put it on their credit cards probably depending on how good your credit is. Or others take out a loan. I hope this helps. Sorry don't know too much about all this. Good luck to you with your journey :huggie:
