Will I be the one for whom the band doesn't work?

I, too, had the same thoughts!!!! I just KNEW I was going to be the one that it wouldn't work for! You can certainly do this. There are times when your body will stop or slow down. Just keep doing what you know you are supposed to do - Bandster Rules! My other piece of advice: go for fills when you need to; if you can eat more than you think you should or if you get hungry between meals - make an appointment!!!! Even a tiny fill can do WONDERS! Feeling bad because you ate too much or gained a pound should NOT keep you from going to the doc! That is what the band is ALL ABOUT!!! THANK GOD FOR MY BAND!!! HUGS to you! Gen (wombat)

How much weight can you really lose? How fast?

Yep - doc told me 60% of excess weight. There are many of us that have surpassed that. I think the 60% is the easiest part to lose because it doesn't seem to take a great deal of effort. Now, I need to be more mindful of what I eat, and I have to exercise in order to lose weight. Before, I could eat just about anything and lose weight just due to the reduced quantity of food Good luck to you! Gen (wombat)

39forever: I lost most of my weight in the first 6 months. I tried to eat around 800 calories. Some days less, some days more. Some consider that really low. I couldn't lose weight if I ate over 1,000 calories. I also didn't do any exercise during this time (lazy - I guess). I'm also only 5ft tall so I really don't require as many calories! I've lost 19# since January 1st and it's fighting coming off now. I now exercise (cardio) at least 3x week. I'm going to start lifting weights now to strengthen. I know that in the beginning I was wanting to drop the weight FAST!!! This isn't the bypass where that is going to happen  If you can lose 2# a week - count your blessings!! That would get you the 10#month goal that most docs say you can lose. With all that being said - this experience is so different for each person. Your starting weight, age, height, or if you are male/female is all going to play a role. :scared2: What I DO know: This site is God sent! The support on here is phenomenal!!! Stay on here - read, post, question, rant & cry, whatever you need to help you through this process!! {{HUGS}} Gen (wombat)
  5. Hello Kitty!! I hope you get your answer as well!! I've been researching alternative procedures to a tummytuck - which is out of reach for me right now. I'm considering Thermage to tighten skin, but I also saw that the Lipodissolve is lipo combined with the collagen treatment so that the skin tightens as well over the next couple of months. Anyone out there had Lipodissolve? Gen(wombat)

welcome DBOWERS!!!! 39FOREVER - YES!! We all (most) can eat whatever we want to before we find good restriction. Up until your first fill, it is supposed to be more about healing than losing weight. Self-control, will-power, and GOD will get you through that tough time. Once you start getting fills, your restriction will increase. I could feel restriction with my first fill - be warned, it doesn't always stick around for long. I was getting a fill every month for the first 4 months because when I would get hungry, or could eat too much, then I went right back to the doc. Some docs won't fill you if you still lose weight - I fuss at them and tell them it's only due to will-power and I'M RUNNING OUT - fill 'er up!!!! You will do fabulously - give your self some time to retrain your eating habits {{hugs}} & Prayers, Gen (wombat)

    Am I A Failure?

Jessica - I think you are correct on the depression being partly from your lost relationship with food. You need support, either on here, in a local group, or your doctor's office!! As fabulous as my DH is, I would not have survived without this board and al the fabulous people on HERE!! They have been so willing to answer questions, lend support, give encouragement, empathize - you name it!!! {{hugs}} for you!! Gen (wombat)

My weight loss is hurting my sister

He then went onto say that I should considered that list cut at least in half. Because even the closest people to you will not want to listen to your WLS story all the time after a few months. He said thats why support gorups are important. To get support from a place that will consistently listen and help you no matter how long. Great Point Snuffy!!! I try to be carefull to not bring it up around friends/family that have weight issues. I don't want them to think I'm bragging or being self centered. I'm just really excited!!!!! I have a twin sister that has always been smaller than me - always!!!! Except, when she was pregnant - ok I'll give her that one. lol. I am now the same size as she is. Surprise, but now she is starting an exercise program  I'm 16 pounds to goal and I'll probably go down at least one more size - she told me in church that she wants all my clothes. uh - NO! I'm getting them tailored! She has generally been self-focused and self-centered her whole life. Her life has been much tougher than mine - 2 failed marriages - on the third now and well, it's a mistake too. So there's very much that she is jealous about, not just my weight. I truly find the best support on here. If we are on here, then we are focusing on our eating, our issues, our health, exercise, etc. There's always someone that wants to listen (read :crying:) I heart this board! wombat

Suzzzie - I understand where you're coming from. I also don't know when it gets better. I had DH take some more pics yesterday. He hasn't sent them to me yet. My last pics were at a size 14 so i want to see a difference. I look at the previous pic and I think I look the same. (HEAD GAMES!!) I've gone from an 18/20 to an 8 and I still don't know when I'm NOT going to feel fat. I still see the tummy bulge and the hanging lower belly. We won't talk about my squishy jiggly thighs, my new wrinkly butt (I didn't know it would wrinkle!!!) and my bat wings that wave at every one. My friend jumps all over my case if I say anything about being fat because of where I'm at now compared to where I was. Ok ok ok - but I still see the FAT!!! I'm down to 17.8 pounds till goal and I think I can see each pound of fat and where it's at!!! I can't wait for Stef to kick my butt and hopefully get rid of some of this droopiness!!!!!

Thanks Candy!! :frown: I miss being on here. I'm going to work on limiting myself to this group, an exercise group, and my banded month group. I don't have the time to post and read all the big forums even though I love doing it!! I'm struggling right now through back and neck pain. Arthritis doc sent me for Physical Therapy. I'm on week 2 now and they are only making me worse!!!!!!! Only 4-6 more weeks of this till MRI time! May God poor out his Blessings on each one of us today, according to His will! Gen (wombat)

2bemeagain - I'm still here :frown: I was spending so much time on here that I had to wean myself off a bit. Life gets crazy sometimes!! Candy - sorry to hear you were having trouble getting them to pay for your fills!! I know they are expensive. I'm self pay and part of my criteria was that the first year of fills be included for free. I've been researching and found a local doc for when my year is up. My band doc is 5 hours away  New doc will charge $150 for fills (which is really good - I've seen it all they way up to $500 each). He won't see me unless I sign over all my care so he's on hold until I have to start paying  Hugs & Prayers to all!! Gen (wombat)

  19. Karey - please share details on the Thermage!!! Yikes, I have a squishy spot under my chin where my large double chin used to be!! I would love to tighten that up. When I look down it gets all squishy looking - I'm too young for the turkey neck!!!!!

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Thanks Whosya!!!!!!!! It feels awesome to actually achieve this goal. I've never (NEVER) been a jogger even when I was 105 and 16yr old it just wasn't for me. I am going to keep at it though. :frown: My plan is to up my speed a bit one week, and then add a little time the next week - and keep working until I get the distance of 5K for jogging only. Stranger - you're not a loser!!!!!! Glad to know lunch went down good!!!

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

Stranger- sorry to hear you are feeling bad!!! Try treating it like a stomach virus. You've done two days now of liquids so I would try some crackers or potato soup - nice bland and soft stuff that shouldn't upset the tummy. Hope you feel better soon!!!! I did week 9 today!!! I RAN 30 MINUTES!!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!! Ok - question though - I am not anywhere near 3 miles. I did 2.5 WITH the warmup walk. Otherwise it is only 2.25 miles. Is the 5K supposed to include the warmup and cool down? Cause I can do .5 in that 10 min. So it would be up to 2.75 miles if that counts  I'm just trying to figure out what to do next. Obviously I wouldn't survive a 5K run right now (grrrr). HAPPY TUESDAY Y'ALL!!!! Gen (wombat)
