On Wait List...
formyboyscabnmac replied to HealthyEverAfter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Cathy, That's very exciting. I hope you get your letter soon. Welcome to the group! -
Has anyone out there ever had their surgery postponed? I was all done with everything and ready to schedule an appointment with my surgeon to get a date. The nutritionist called and said I cannot move forward for a month and a week from today. I have low levels of vitamin D and iron. I knew that I was vitamin D deficient but I have been my whole life and have no complications from it. However I just found out about my iron deficiency. But anyway, I have to take supplements for a month and get retested to see if the supplements are working and there's not an underlying problem. I am super frustrated however because I asked the nutritionist if I would be fine to move on and she assured me that it would be fine, just make sure I take my supplements. Then two days later she called me and told me that my levels were too unsafe and even went to the surgeon to talk about it. So now I'm completely screwed and instead of getting my surgery in March I will probably have to wait until April or May. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Surgey postponed

Mine is really low. I just started the supplements today so a month from today I get my blood drawn. I'm 22 but I feel like I'm 100 due to my weight and health problems. -

I have an IUD so I'm not sure why my iron is so low. Is yours still low or are they back to normal now? -
I haven't got a surgery date yet but I am anxiously awaiting my final appointments. I have been overweight since I was 5 years old and was first diagnosed with obesity when I was 12. Now I'm 22 and have tried everything to lose weight naturally. In August I was diagnosed with hypertension and was told I would be a good candidate for surgery. My BMI is over 50, which totally freaks me out. Luckily my husband is Active Duty Army and our insurance will cover everything. The process for going through an Army hospital is a bit different and shorter than for the civilian world. The process included an initial consult, 4 nutrition appointments, 3 psych, 2 visits with a wellness center to determine exercise, a surgery orientation and the appointment to set the date. I have four appointments left before I can meet with the surgeon again. I will be done with those by the end of the week. I'm happy about my decision to complete the process but nervous about the surgery itself. I have never had any surgeries or even broken a bone. I'm hoping I'm making the right decision!

I am selfish...possibly for the first time in my life.

I feel the same way. In the past my doctors made me feel as though I needed to lose weight because society demands that. I definitely made my decision to have surgery because I want to be healthy and feel better. This decision is a personal one because we are the ones who will experience the whole thing. It's okay to be selfish for once and do this for you. Good for you!
