Anyone from NC?
-
Hope you are doing well. Had my surgery 9/7/2012 at Rex. Started process at 220 and now 116 to 118. Not easy, but well worth it! I live about 35 miles from Goldsboro and go there fairly often.

Low Albumin and Prealbumin blood levels
teresab9712 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone had low albumin and / or low prealbumin blood levels? I think both of these tests indicate adequate nutrition. Will see my doc March 5th. -
How are you? Remember reading somewhere you had had complications. Unable to locate that post. Hope you are doing much better. The first several weeks are tough, but it will get better! Take care.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
teresab9712 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 55 and had RNY on 9/7/12. My husband is 63 and has just completed all pre-op tests and waiting on insurance approval. My highest weight was 220 and was 207 on surgery day after liver reduction diet. I reached my goal of 150 in 5 months and am currently at 145. I was pretty sick the first 2 weeks with nausea and dehydration. I am much better now, however, still struggle to get in Protein. I still have very little appetite and have to work hard to get in enough calories. My weight loss was really fast, maybe too fast, so I am concerned about losing too much at my age. Not crazy about all of these wrinkles and sagging arms and legs. But, the great thing is that I am healthier and off my blood pressure and cholesterol meds and I have gone from a size 18W to a 10 or 12 misses. Now, I just want to stop the weight loss and maintain! -
All in one vitamins

My doc and nut have me taking Ketogenx chewable, mixed berry flavor ... only 2 a day! This is a Bariatric Advantage product by Metagenics. I buy at dr.'s office, but also can get online. -
I use Fage plain Greek yogurt and then add Splenda and various types of sugar free jams. Also, Kroger has a light Greek yogurt ( their own store brand) in various flavors that I like. Both kinds are low in sugar!

Dr. Enochs thought I was a good candidate for robotic surgery. This was discussed and planned for at least a month before my surgery date. Good luck!
-
Good luck.

Dr. Enochs did my RNY with the robot at Rex and scheduled the OR for 4 to 41/2 hours. I think it's pretty standard time frame ...may not take entire time, but standard scheduling procedure. My surgery was on Friday and went home on Sunday. (Mine did not include band removal, just RNY.)

Oops .... are, not care

I live between Clinton and Newton Grove, but much closer to Newton Grove. Where care you from and where did you have your surgery?

Is there a September Post-Op Group? When I try to access, it states I am not permitted to view. -
I'm from Newton Grove NC. Dr. Enochs in Cary (same practice) did my surgery on 9/7/12.

I am 5 months post-op and just reached my goal. Started at 220 and am currently at 150. Happy to meet goal, but very concerned about losing too much. I am 55 years old, so I don't want to be rail thin. Would love to hear suggestions about maintenance.

I have viewed this site several times, however, just now registered and looking forward to participating in conversations. My weight prior to pre-op liver reduction diet was 220. Weighed in at 207 on surgery date of 9/7/12. The first few weeks were tough, had difficulty drinking and eating. Dehydrated, got fluids, and things slowly improved. Dr. put me on soft foods at 2 weeks due to not being able to tolerate Protein shakes at that time. I am now just over 4 months post-op and my current weight is 155... Just 5 pounds from the goal set by my Dr. My major concern now is will I be able to stabilize the weight loss. I have an appointment with my nutritionist next week and hoping for some guidance. I realize that I am beginning to look gaunt and frail, particularly in my face and upper body... at 55 yrs old the wrinkles and skin sagging are really appearing. People are constantly asking if I am sick! I debated on having the sleeve procedure rather than the by-pass since I was not extremely obese. However, due to chronic liver disease my Dr. and I decided the by-pass would be best for my liver problem. Would love to hear from any of you with helpful info or advice. I still struggle with getting in my protein and I really have to make myself eat. Never thought I would have this problem!!! I am sure hunger will return...just wondering when???

Forget mention that I add Splenda .

I use plain Fage Greek yogurt and flavor it with various sugar free Smuckers jellies and jams. This has been a life-saver for me!
