Kinda wish I had a dumping issue, so I would not keep testing my sweet tooth so much!
lmcgloon replied to Marla's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I stay under 9g of sugar per serving of whatever it is I'm eating. I even get nervous eating fruit, but I haven't had any issues yet. There are sweet things out there that aren't high in carbs and sugar. Try to find those to satisfy your cravings so you don't sabotage yourself Weight Watchers has some bakery items and ice cream products that aren't bad. They need to be an occasional item, but better to eat them than a piece of pie! -
only 3 months?! That's early! I was told 6-12 months. I'm waiting until Memorial Day. I've also picked up a coffee habit in the last few weeks. I try to do decaf, but I don't always. I want to ditch this new habit before it becomes too bad

No, I haven't gotten sick off anything thankfully. I'm 13 weeks (3months). The salads just didnt taste like I expected. I couldn't wait to have one and then when I did it just was sort of ok. The lettuce made my stomach grumble though. But I've done lettuce wraps no issues, so it's weird. -

My nutritionist told me that salad is the #1 thing people can't wait to try again after surgery. I bet it has to do with the crunch factor. I've had a salad twice now and they were both kind of disappointing. I'm thinking the mixed greens may not agree with me. -

Husband wanted nachos for the basketball games (Go 'Cuse!) so I made "nacho dip." But, lets be honest, it's really just my go to taco filling (see recipe below) topped with cheese and FF sour cream that you can dunk tortilla chips into. I usually make my own tortilla chips out of the low carb tortilla wraps, but didn't have any on hand today so we use the bite size tostitos. The serving size is 24 chips but I only had about half that. I like to eat the filling with a spoon hahah. Taco Filling: 1 lb ground turkey 1 small onion (1/2 medium) 1 can FF refried beans 1/2 can enchilada sauce 1 pkt taco seasoning 1 can green chiles 1/2 cup shredded cheese (I like the Mexican blend) Sauté onions until translucent. Add turkey until brown. Mix taco season as directed and add to turkey mix. Add all other ingredients one at a time, stirring. Top with salsa, cheese, whatever you like. Voila! -
Friday was my 12 weeks post-op. Lost 50 pounds since day of surgery. Didn't have to do a pre-op diet. This is the smallest I've been in years. Please excuse the poor picture quality and lighting in the "after" picture. I don't normally look all red and glowing lol!

her book is available on amazon for under $10. I bought the Kindle version

thanks ladies!

People come here for support, not criticism. That being said, if I post something about eating something that's a poor choice pre-op let alone post RNY, I sure as hell want someone to call me out on it. I have a good support system at home, but we're all human and there will probably be a time or two I slip up. And I expect my RNY "family" to express concern, and I promise not to think you're all "judging" me.

I'm from just outside Syracuse. I live in Geneva now though. Had surgery in Rochester in December. When are you having surgery?

I posted one too under a thread called "hit the big 5-0" -
the roast turkey is a good choice if you don't eat the potatoes. But I agree, the frozen meals are hard to find in low carb versions. Seems they all come with rice pasta or potatoes. It's a bummer because I like to bring them to work, but the selection is limited

A lot of people have issues with cold liquids at first. I've used straws quite a bit. Basically they can cause gas and discomfort so that's why you're supposed to avoid. But if it's working for you, keep doing it. Just me mindful of how fast you're drinking

Made Bacon Cheeseburger Lettuce Wraps 1lb ground turkey 5 pieces of bacon; chopped to bite size pieces 1/2 medium onion (or 1 small) 5 wedges Laughing Cow Queso Chipotle Cheese Spread 1/2 Cup shredded cheddar cheese 1 Tbsp Ketchup 1 Tbsp Mustard 1 Tbsp Dill Relish 1 Head of Lettuce ( I used iceberg but most any kind would do) Saute onions and bacon together until bacon is almost crisp and onions are soft. Add ground turkey until brown. Mix in cheese wedges until melted. Add in ketchup, mustard and relish. Scoop onto a lettuce leaf. Top with shredded cheddar. Simple 1-dish meal You can also mix it up to make it how you like. Oh and depending on the size of your lettuce wrap, this makes enough for the family. I ate one, my husband had 2 and there are leftovers -

Awesome I am definitely checking these out. I have a huge container if vanilla protein powder left that I could just never choke down. What a waste. The chocolate ones were okay but I got sick if them. Put a scoop in my coffee today for the first time in a while, I have been trying to up protein since I'm still way under 70g/day. I've been drinking the Atkins chocolate royal shakes in the morning but I'm pretty much over those too. I might get the sample pack, but the lemonade sounds good. Especially with warm weather around the corner (hopefully. It's still snowy here in NY) -

Yeah I cut the Orzo in half to lower carb count, but I should have lowered the liquid too. There's always next time because I'll make it again! With low sodium stock though because what I used yesterday tasted like a salt lick to me. Hubby liked it though -

I made Avgolemono, it's a Greek lemon-chicken soup (thanks to ShastaDaisy for the recipe). My husband loved it, I thought it was just okay. I had it last week in a Greek restaurant and it was creamy and delicious. Mine wasn't as creamy as theirs and it tasted salty to me. We have lots of leftovers so we'll still be eating it. It was really simple to make though, so if anyone is interested, here's the recipe I used: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2008/02/dinner-tonight-avgolemono-greek-lemon-and-rice-soup-recipe.html -
I try to stay under 9g of sugar. Check out the Weight Watchers ice cream pops. The ones I have are raspberry with a dark choloate coating. 80 calls, 4.5g fat, 8g sugar, 2g protein. There's a few other options too. They satisfy that craving but fall under the "less than 10" grams of sugar my nut recommended

I definitely feel hunger now, too. About every 2-3 hours I want to eat. I know at this point I'm not overeating, but I do need to get in the habit of measuring. I'm almost down 50lbs in 12 weeks. Not too shabby! Congrats to all on the many successes, weight related or not
