    December 2012 Post Op Group

Hi All! I just joined yesterday. I'm from Western NY. Had my surgery 12/21/12 (you know, the end of the world). Feeling good, healing nicely, so far, no issues with foods or liquids. Down 25 lbs, hooray!

  3. That seems pretty drastic! How are you supposed to get through the first couple of stages if you can't have mushy foods like oatmeal, mashed potatoes or milk? I've seen a lot of different diets (seems like every doc has their own) but I have never seen one that strict...
  4. I am 3 weeks post-op and I'm finding life to be kind of boring. I feel like my life consists of work, gym, home, sleep, repeat. Going out for dinner and drinks with friends used to be our entertainment for my husband and I. Now that I can't eat or drink I need to find better ways to entertain myself and feel socially connected with others. I like to shop but that gets expensive. Plus, I'd hate to spend $$ on new clothes I'm just going to have to get rid of in a few weeks. Any suggestions for new or creative ways to fill my time?
  5. My hospital provided everything for me, but the few things I used were: Chapstick, my own slippers, phone & charger, and laptop. Their toiletries didn't bother me, but if you're particular about things you can bring your own. Wore the same clothes home as I wore there (sweats) and wore hospital gown the whole 2-day stay. Everyone is right, you sleep, then sleep some more. The TV drowned out some of the outside noise for me, but except for the occasional walk I went on, I mostly just slept. Don't pack too much, it's a waste.
  6. My doctor (and the all knowing internet) told me that your hair will fall out regardless around the 3 month mark. However, the Biotin will help your hair look healthier and he recommended using volumizing shampoo. I started the Biotin right after surgery. I haven't lost any hair yet, but there's a definite improvement in how it looks and it's growing faster. Side bonus, my nails look fab, too!

    a little embarrassed

6 months out and you're still having issues "going?" This is kind of discouraging. I'm 3 weeks out and thought it would fix itself over time but apparently not. I don't want to live on laxatives...

    I Can't Wait Till....

What a great thread! Seems like a lot of people have similar wishes. Mine are: -To fit in a desk at school and not feel squeezed & uncomfortable (I'm a Grad student) -To be able to walk across campus with my friends & not feel winded and sweaty -To not dread taking the stairs instead of an elevator -To ride my bike farther than down the street -To get on Amusement Park rides -To have my diabetes go in remission -To find a new form of entertainment that isn't going out to eat -To love myself as much as my husband does

    RNY in Upstate NY

Hi All! I am from Syracuse, but live near Rochester now. Had my surgery done in Rochester on 12/21. Boy, those first couple of weeks are really tough, aren't they? I'm finding it hard to drink 32oz of water/fluids a day. And i find the Protein shakes nauseating! I've been "experimenting" with other soft foods with success though. I'm healing up nicely, but really ready to move on to something more...regular haha.
